Hey dude. Great video.. I have exactly the same car. St 2 225 pre facelift. Car starts fine. Then a little white smoke start driving sitting in idle no white smoke sometimes the heat doesn't come out of the Hester's in the car it blows cold but the last 2 days heat comes out perfectly fine.. engine over heated s couple of times.. no leaks started the car this morning . Some white smoke again. Drive it white smoke goes away.. was told it's my head gasket but surely a head gasket would constantly smoke .

Very interesting mate, the over heating is strange too, possibly two separate issues. Has your coolant level dropped at all? And does the car start lumpy sometimes?

@@AutoBay hey mate thanks for the reply .. soo it's been back home now from the first garage (who quoted me a price of £2400) I found a garage who are more than half the price of that.. so went and collected the car.. started it up first time let I sit idle for 10 maybe 15 mins there was some white smoke but nothing major.. had to drive it home my partner was following me and she confirmed that the white smoke dissapeard even when stopped at traffic lights and junctions.. no white smoke at all.. it didn't over heat and the heaters in the car worked perfectly straight away . Parked it up yesterday started the car twice today same thing teeny tiny bit of smoke.. went for a little drive and nothing no more smoke heaters working perfectly.. there is a smell of fumes in the collant reservoir.. but that's all I can see I'm not a mechanic . But from what I've been watching in the net a blown head gasket throws out loads of smoke doesn't it ? Lol.. it's going to the other garage tomorrow so hopefully some answers it's just really baffling me lol

Mine drinks coolant has milky oil but doesn’t really have white smoke, definitely head gasket or cracked liner or warped head for me, still drives good tho strangely, gonna be parked up for a while now ☹️ coil packs can give u a bad misfire dunno bout the oil in the cylinder tho, good luck with it 👍👍

Doesn't look there is enough steam there to be a cracked liner. Looks more like a damp day start up. Couple that with no coolant loss and I reckon you'll be ok. Good luck with the diagnosis mate.

Had a look at one of these at an auction... It seemed pretty nice but there was a bit of white smoke on start-up (car was cold) and the engine was vibrating as well... Would this point to a cracked cylinder liner?

The cracked liner issue is a very minor issue and far less common than it's made out to be, to many garages jumping on the band wagon thinking let’s make loads of money by telling people it’s a common fault.

I agree. I've been ragging my ST about 3 years and its still hasn't skipped a beat. Granted, if you consistently bomb down the M'way at 120, that engine is going to overheat and crack. I think it's down to the driving style of the owner and less a common fault of the ST.

@@seymenauto0708 They are designed to run at motorway speeds for hours. Like RichieST says, what will crack the liners in excess speed for long periods. What you can do is use a bluetooth OBDII device and keep an eye on coolant/oil temp. Use an app like Torque Lite/Pro.

Right so with mine when I cracked a liner it was beautiful on cold start and when it got warm it started misfiring, I also didn't have and oil in coolant and or coolant in oil, and had a massive crack (25mm long) and had perfect compression on all 5, only way to get a definite answer is to take the head off, obviously this isn't to say yours is shagged but its what my var was doing

Whe i first got my ST 2 years ago, mine was starting up lumpy as hell and also when i checked my plugs number 2 was wet on mine, sent to dreamscience to sort out, turned out the valve cover gasket O rings was broke on the out edge and between cylinder 2 and 3 this caused the leakage into tye spark plug well, all was sorted after having it replaced

We have a ST2 with the dream science £485 device, quick question we have a permanent ESP fault, checked fuses doesn’t seem to be blown, esp fault will not go away, when we purchased it the Prev owner said when he had the dream science map on that’s when it came on - no fault codes using the dream science obd and another diagnostic not showing up any faults or codes but is still on the dash
