    By the time this video series is done I’ll have spent more time than money on it, but both are a sacrifice, depends on what your goal is I guess. I started with the least expensive first , but now I’m getting into some pricey engine work. I think the best bang for the buck was fork, shock and carb. It’s still far less than a new CRF250R! The goal now is top ten finish at world vet 60+ in November. We’ll see.

    The fuel Inlet bits can be heated up and pulled out, they are a tight press fit. Some suitable loctite when you press it back in will keep it fuel tight. Getting a grip on it is a pain, but can sometimes thread a bolt in it. I see you got it later in the vid. Make it a nicer finished job when the lines fit

    hi, i have some question as i am doing the same mod. My first question is you says to dremal the intake boot. i noticed that the intake hole on the head is the same as the boot. How is dremaling just the boot helping if the hole diameter in the head is still the same. Di you do anything to the head side, or that side of the boot? Next question. When i went to install the Carb, i had issues with the throttle cable where it attached to the carburetor. the throttle cable was not long enough when attached to the bracket and on throttle resulted in the carburetor slide being part way up. Did you change the throttle cable? or use the same 2 line one that came with the stock?

  • @lowbuckgarage1

    @lowbuckgarage1

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you take the boot off the head and place it on the carb, then Looking through the carb towards the boot you will probably see a big lip between the carb and boot now, because carb is now bigger. Enlarge and smooth out the lip area to match, where the carb and boot join together, that’s all. Leave the porting of the actual head intake to the professionals. My head is at the shop now being professionally ported by a friend. For cable: I had already removed my “push” cable for weight savings. I know several people who have done the same with no troubles, as long as it’s lubed properly. It now has plenty of adjustment at the carb. Hope that helps.

  • @keepsyouincontrol

    @keepsyouincontrol

    @@lowbuckgarage1 Thanks!. the push link didn't look like it was doing much as there was slop in it each time i closed the throttle. However my issue was on the pull side. i ended up removing the throttle cable bracket compared the old with the new one and you could see where it attached to the cable link was further out. This in-turn caused it to pull on the throttle slide so it was about 1/4 open a zero throttle. to fix this i cut the bracket and just welded the connection point closer then re attached. i'm now trying to play with the fuel line where it rubs. I'm looking forward to seeing the difference once i have it running again.

  • @lowbuckgarage1

    @lowbuckgarage1

    8 ай бұрын

    The 3 lines are just vent and drain lines so they can just exit out anywhere behind the engine, as low as possible, typically in front of the bottom of the shock area. I had to find an L-shaped fuel inlet fitting on EBay, pull the old one out, (not easy) and press the new one in carefully. I’ve seen other guys just grind a smooth shallow notch out for the fuel tube on the frame, (not too deep) that works too. The push cable shouldn’t be causing any problems, I was only trying to save additional weight at the time. I simply removed it, put a small zip tie around the rubber boot on the throttle cable to keep dirt out. Personally, I would just leave it on. Make sure the throttle, throttle cable, all carb pivots are lubed with light oil or silicone spray. Check the end of the throttle grip isn’t too tight against the end of the handle bar making it rub. Good luck!🍀

    @@autoelectricobarajas8817 At sea level, with more exhaust flow and freer intake you need to go up at least 2 sizes richer on main jet, example: from 120 to 125. And at least one size richer on pilot from 42 to say 45. And move the needle clip down one position. If you’re at high altitude, say 4000 feet or higher, you shouldn’t have to do anything. Something else may be wrong.

    The hesitation would make this a 'pass' project for me. I don't see a follow up on this project, if you've done one.

    I did get it sorted out with a needle clip move and going up one size on pilot, it then ran great. But now with all the recent changes; bore, cam, porting, I’m back to the drawing board dialing it in. More testing today. Currently editing the CRF150R fork install vid.

    You probably said it right enough, I'm not smart with Carbs, I have no idea, why you would point what ( I guess main jet shrugs) in a different direction than it was in, or how, or what it would do differently for the bike. I also assume, you might be putting 150rb forks on the 230 , that will be cool. I think the 230 is what I'm narrowing my search down to, I just wish I could get 25 hp out of the motor, vs what stock which I think is between 12 and 17 hp. The rest of the bike would probably work for me, I like the simplicity of air cooled, as well as adjustable valves vs tedious shimming.

    @@bikersoncall Given it’s inadequate suspension, the 230 is a great bike; six speeds, electric start, total simplicity, bulletproof motor. The typical Amazon 30mm XL250 clone pumper carb shoots a quick squirt/stream of gas for a second when it first opens, giving the engine a quick boost from low RPM. Many times that nozzle’s stream will be pointed up, down or sideways, and not down the intake port where it belongs. It shows you how to check that in the video. Careful, that nozzle will turn and bend some, but it can also break off. If that stream isn’t aimed down the intake port you’re not getting anywhere near the full potential from the carb. And yes I found some 2021 150RB forks on eBay.

    @@lowbuckgarage1 Hey sir, what's the brand of this carb? I'm a little insecure to choose... Thanks!
