CR&R Cart Rollout - Newport Beach: Part 1

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here we have the beginning of the automated cart rollout for the city of Newport Beach, CA. The mini series begins on the first Thursday and Friday of the 16-week rollout! On these two days, CR&R transitioned A and B Sections of Eastbluff, and the 1st Quarter of the Port Streets to automated collection. I did get the opportunity to work with this crew over the summer for the second half of the transition period, and got to become great friends with a few of these guys. The music used is from songs that we would all hear on the radio while heading to and from the work zone, and while we were on our breaks. One of those special memory type of things. Comment, rate, and look forward to another adventure with the rollout crew.
Song: Ty Dolla Sign - "Paranoid" (Instrumental) - edited to exclude that annoying "Mustard on the beat" in the beginning
Filmed on April 3rd and 4th with a Sony DSC-HX50V
Filmed in Eastbluff and Harbor View in Newport Beach, CA

Proabably one of the largest cart distributions I've ever seen! I really think that CR&R should make the recycling lids a bit more noticeable...I couldn't tell the difference lol. I also had companies which don't strictly assign recycling carts to each residence, and then have all their trash end up going to an MRF. I also like when cities let you choose what carts you want (lol I would go crazy with that), but is each extra one for an extra price? It kind of looked like a total disaster especially when people don't know what type of cart they're gonna be getting.

I agree on the recycling cart lids. Residents could have as many carts as they wanted of any size at no cost which is very inconvenient. Along with the city's old refuse crew telling residents to milk the company of it's carts out of disappointment (from the city contracting out). It shouldn't have been the way it is. It should have been 3 carts, cost for extra trash, 35 gals to qualified residents only, extra recycle or greens every once-in-a-while. Newport Beach is a huge mess with automation thanks to all the residents who are stupid or don't care.

Sanitation94 Videos Ah, I was wondering about the crazy distribution lines too, now I understand why. Yes they definitely should've done 1 cart for refuse, any size. And one or two carts for recycle. Anything else and you pay. I can sort of understand why people would order a crazy amount of carts though if they were doing it for revenge or seriously had no clue what they were really ordering. I suppose if I was there and happened to own a warehouse or something I'd certainly take a 90 for my house, and oh, 10 of the 30s for my business. HEY IT'S FREE!!! What was the largest order you saw? That one at 1:27 ?

Cool video! Always love cart roll-out videos! So Newport Beach that used to be manual collection is now automated? They don't have greenwaste? And why were some of the lids not completely closed? Anyways awesome video can't wait for the next part!

Thanks. Yes, Newport Beach is now automated. There is no green waste service and recycling is unfortunately optional. All trash is sorted at the MRF. The carts inside of the warehouse up against each other with the lids open, but the hot weather easily forms them back to normal.

Nice! Why did 1:27 have a huge line? Are all those carts only 1 stream? Couldn't really tell from the video

The city let people custom order their carts and it turned out to be a total disaster which the residents are oblivious to. So many people ordered too many carts or the most asinine number and size of carts. The house after 1:27 ended up switching their six 35 gallon carts for a few 64 gallon like normal human beings lol. The black lids are for trash that goes to the MRF and blue lids are for recyclables. The blue is a dark navy blue so they blend in. Every house should have been required to recycle at home. The dirty MRF is a bunch of bullshit to be honest.

Different recyclables are separated into their own commodities (paper, metal, glass, various plastics). By the time the unsorted trash gets there, most of the material goes to waste due to excessive contamination by trash or leachate.
