Downey Trash Cart Rollout
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Earlier this year, the City of Downey renewed their agreement with Calmet Services, which called for brand new collection trucks and residential containers. Like almost every hauler in the region, Calmet partnered with Can Do Services for the replacement of the residential carts. Commercial bins were never replaced and remained in service. Seen here, is one of the two teams rolling out fresh, brand new Otto Edge carts to part of the Wednesday collection area. Calmet requested that carts be rolled out on the day before collection, so this was all filmed on a Tuesday morning. Monday route residents received their new Ottos on Saturdays rather than Fridays for some odd reason. Residents received the same 65 gallon trash cart as they had before, and larger, 95 gallon recycling and green waste carts. From what the attached guidebooks say, this was meant to make it easier for residents recycle and throw away less.
This video starts off at a mellow pace, but things speed up as the crew gets in the zone. This was the first street of the day with almost all multi-family lots. That's why you see multiple sets being delivered at one spot. The crew actually put the axles in the wrong slot on the black carts by mistake, which is why they lean more toward the front. The forward lean happens when you put 10-inch wheels in the axle slot for 8-inch wheels. Oops haha. Three members of the crew made appearances in past videos. Drew (orange shirt) and Charlie (I think; tosses out blue stack) were seen in the video of Lake Forest's old carts being removed; and Chris (gray hat) was seen in the video I posted of Republic's carts being removed from Artesia.
Not everything could fit here, so there will be a part 2, which I'll post later. Comment, rate, and enoy the show. Thanks to the super chill crew for making this video possible.

Awesome video, love seeing nice new oTTos being rolled out in California. Elk Grove needs to roll out new carts, lots of ours are all old and breaking apart.

Thanks. Most of the old carts were still in one piece with no cracks or anything. It's just the original blues that were all cracked with half the lid, etc. That shade of blue breaks easily more than any other color that Roto produced. Which is why CR&R and the late Solag Disposal switched to different colors a long, long time ago in some of their communities.

+Sanitation94 ive lived in downey all my life.your right blue did crack the most. The plastic roto used didn't last long in the UV rays the color faded and didn't last.I'm glad they replaced all of the ones in Downey.

Sucks they all got replaced. I would have been fine with just the blues.

true but it's better they all get replaced that way everyone started fresh again for the residents and company not having to come out every week replacing containers.we get a stronger plastic to handle the UV rays
Cool lol the end where the guy was telling the workers what pattern the carts have to be and telling the one guy come on big dog

Yeah it was their first street of the day, and it was all multifamily buildings too. So each unit would receive their own set of carts. It wasn't until then that they came up with that idea.

Great video, great part on CalMet pushing for more recyling, instead of doing the typical set of three 96 gal carts. Also glad to see Otto getting a lot more business from more Socal haulers.

Thanks. Calmet has been with Otto for at least 5 or 6 years now. I'm not sure if it's a new company thing to give a smaller trash can or a city thing. But thank God it's not a set of 3 96 gals. Calmet, United Pacific, Republic and WM currently buy Otto as far as companies go. Gov't haulers vary, but I know MCSD got a batch of Ottos earlier this year.

they do really do push recycling and it helps customers fit more in recycling instead of throwing it in the waste.if you want a 96 gallon black it's an extra fee which most people I see don't get
Great job on this one! Cart rollouts really amaze me and I always love to see the new carts. This video in particular had to my favorite rollout video on YT. Definetly putting this in my favorites! Nice job Tristen!

Thanks. Not many people get a chance to film these, but usually I'll do it if I know of any. I'm just pretty bummed that I couldn't film Cypress last year.
If youre interested in carts you should go to Sonoma County! Recology is having a roll out and replacing all of the county’s old WM, North Bay, Greenwaste Recovery, etc, so if you want the chance to get your hands on some unique and old carts head over!
Cool video, not a lot of cart deliveries on KZread, l liked those Fully Auto edges a lot !!!!

I'm curious... are the carts made of HDPE or some other plastic? I've never looked for the "number" stamped on them.
@newmexicorefuseentertainme9406

Most of them are made of HDPE but some are LDPE or PP but when Thees carts are recycled they are crushed into bails altogether and sold as mixed rigid plastic

otto is an awful brand that broke easily they should have stayed with roto. but I am happy with the rehrig bins I've had mine for 3 years
cool
I have a 96 gallon recycle and green waste container and a 64 gallon trash container
Why do companies always seem to rollout 1 full set per unit? When redondo got rolled out, we got 6 greens carts for 2 3 unit condo buildings. We now have 1, and it doesnt even get filled halfway in a week...

These multi-family homes are like multiple small houses in one cluster, so I'm sure each household pays for their own bins on their own separate service account.
Nice video, man! What trucks do CalMet (or whatever the company name was) use??

Why was Downey getting new carts? Weren't the already automated and had carts from calmet?

The old gray, turquoise and dark green carts came from an old hauler called "Calsan". They merged with Metropolitan Waste Disposal, and formed "Calmet". Calsan went automated over 20 years ago, giving a set of 65 gallon Rotos to everyone; but also gave the option of a 35 gallon trash cart. Given the fact that these cans are just simply old and falling apart, the city requested new carts for everyone.
