I always have trouble going into spots like that. So today I took my time of at one our terminals just to practice and this video helped me see the mistakes I was doing. My trainer was terrible at teaching backing..he just directed. Never actually showed me how to set..I'm glad I find your channel man

It's the same thing at the school I went to. I wasn't probably trained and I ended up failing offset backing on my AZ road test, I blame the school I attended for not teaching me the proper techniques. Also I didn't get enough lessons on backing, instead I was taken outside to learn my Pre-trip inspection the majority of the time and a few on road lessons. Fewer backing lessons, it's no wonder why I couldn't back up and failed my road test. If anything Truck driving schools are a waste of time and money the government made it mandatory we have go to Truck Driving school before we can do our road test it's all about money making, to take as much money as they can get from you. You're better off getting private one on one lessons inside a Truck with a real professional Truck Driver.

Thanx I’ve had my license for 15 years but not really done a lot of tight reversing especially between trailers, started a new job recently for much more money as there is a hgv driver shortage crisis in the UK,I work nights I always stop at a truck stop in the motorway service stations and practice mainly it’s a VERY tight 90 degree backing between 2 trailers and Parked trailers opposite so very little space managed to get in 9/10 times but most important thing is take it VERY slow and get out and look, I had to get out and look 3 times the other night but for me I was very happy as I got in the Space without hitting anything, doesn’t matter how many times you GOAL. massive shout out to all the EU foreign drivers at the motorway services who always help me out being a watchman. @@JoeyDrones cheers mate :) even after 15 years I still get extremely anxious when reversing lol it’s strange though if I know people are watching me I’m really nervous to reverse but if I’m alone no problem we have a big hgv shortage crisis now in the UK, so for me BREXIT is the best thing ever for us drivers as wages have gone up massively!

Look at it like a formula. It's not that difficult. Your trailer have to line up with the space will be backing into? 1) 4 feet from the trailer. 2) Count up to 3 trailers, that's your spot. 3)Turn your tractor to 12:00 more further. Then start backing Take your time and use the driver side; You can see better 4) Once you Jack it in, the pull up and straighten the trailer, a little to left, then right then you can back it in.

When you arrive at a terminal, yard or distribution center, Each place is different and situation also going to be different. You may have to do different backing maneuver an it depends on how these places are set up and arranged. And it will depend what type of backing may need to do, My suggestion is to watch 'RWD' Riding with Dave videos can give you ideas to approach the backing procedures an how to set up - make that you have to pull up further in order to back in - pull up to ( re-position/ straighten) the trailer to back rest of the way. I was shown similar way to park, only difference is I cut my steering all the way to the left and begin to jackknife with my steering all the way to the right and just chase it back. As for pulling up, so be it. Sometimes I get it one shot and sometimes I dont. A tip that I found helped was if I was jackknifing to the point my tandem was going into my drivers side but I was in the hole, simply pull forward to straighten out and straight back into the hole.

Luckily there was construction next door so I quickly borrowed one of their cones 😂 went off my tandems+the cone and ended up throwing it right in with my next attempt.

My setup was similar and yes get as close as you can to the parked trailers but as soon as my sleeper on the truck went past the empty spot to the next trailer if there was one i would pull away and do my setup! Depending on the time of day when dropping a trailer and picking up one not to many people watching and yes you pull up as many times it takes! Better to do that than take a chance of hitting something! Turn your CB off not that many of drivers still use them and you will see what I’m talking about when you pull into a truck stop and no matter what time it is someone is watching just waiting for you to fuck up and remember trucks are still attached to these trailers! Better to pull through but that’s not always the case. This advise is for new drivers and me because I am thinking about driving again,It’s been ten years. Now this sounds crazy and stupid not to mention childish but when I get paid I’m going to go buy about five or six small toy tractor trailers at Walmart or some where else and set up different situations for backing up I know it sounds crazy but it helps and it’s cheaper than actually tearing up a real truck!

This one of the best videos...I have been team driving for a year but still can't get backing. My problem is the steering to get in the hole..I can setup good but can never get in the hole. I over and understeer. Is there a point when to start steering to the right to get in the hole.? That's where I'm messing up. If I don't figure it out I'm quitting.

Sooo I don’t want to confuse but I got this tip when I 1st started about steering backing. What they teach you is opposites ... steer right to move trailer left...however if you steer from the bottom of the wheel left is left. Hope that makes sense to you, someone having trouble.

While backing, when you look from the door window, do you you at the articulation area between the tractor and trailer? or just the rear tandems? also do you other indications like landing gear feet or landing-gear support to know the degree of your angle?

For the set up How many trailers u suggest you drive up to in a double sleeper 48ft? My “trainer” (been driving 2yrs) can’t teach for nothing. Just directs me turn left, turn right turn left, turn right etc. And i need reference points. He says to start cutting the wheel when my shoulder reaches the middle of the parking spot i want to go in. But i have trouble getting it in every time.
