CPTSD | Lived Experience

Sandy Storm was a human trafficking victim for over 20 years and it began during her childhood. Initially, she did not realize she was a survivor or how traumatic the experience was until she started volunteering in the justice movement and addressing her Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, also know as CPTSD. Sandy has since written three books about her painful childhood, how she was trafficked, as well as her healing journey. She has also become an abolitionist and works with the organization, DeliverFund, to help set other trafficking victims free - both physically and emotionally. If we stand together against trafficking tell our stories and talk about these things then just maybe the new generation of humanity won't have to be exposed to what we have had to endure

It's so hard here in upshur county wv to make a difference in sex trafficking or should I say slavery when the police and judges are such a huge part of it. It's really sad because they have infected underage with STDs now and that shouldn't be happening

@@ceterisparibus8966 right it is since I've turned in the judges 911 directors and various other men involved I've been on incarcerated on a fake crime, by the same judge I turned in, beat and pepper sprayed while n jail while locked down in a cage and been constantly sexually harassed. It's no wonder wv has a higher attempted rape rate than NYC. The police do not prosecute sexual crimes here in fact people that molest their own kids get their kids back

I wonder if they will be discussing sex trafficking survivors only? Or other forms of trafficking survivors? I'm a drug trafficking survivor and there isn't exactly a local group therapy for that.

I don’t have any personal experience with human trafficking… other than feeling that some of the people I’ve met online since covid began might have been involved… whether willingly, or unwillingly, I’m still unsure. I’ve tried to befriend them. I even brought my concern to one of them about one of our mutual friends… he kind of agreed with me.. that it could have been the case.. but yet at the same time, he seemed to kind of take it as a joke… still to this day, I wonder about these people. To the point that I do not fully trust anyone I meet online… anyway, my point in saying this is I have had a heart for this issue for many years. It breaks my heart that people exist out there who are manipulating the hurt, the broken, the vulnerable people. The way you describe how these traffickers act with their potential victims.. sounds like the man I met online during covid 🥺 he even convinced me to leave my husband.. which in the long run worked out for our good, because it brought my husband to a place where he decided he wanted to show me he truly loved me and wanted me around. He’s changed so much… and we finally wound up getting back together after 50 weeks of living separately. It breaks my heart though, and I just wish there was something I could do, to help in this area. But I’ve never known what to do.. what I CAN do.. or where to even begin helping.. so after all that.. my real reason for writing is to ask.. what can the normal person out here in the world do to assist in this?

There is no closure when there is no justice. Justice, real justice, is not something we should ever have to just "let go" of and move on from. Especially when the courts are very obviously skewed toward the perpetrators. And hold victims responsible for being victims. It was unfortunate that the live chat was filled with so much useless information and platitudes.

Closure can be very subjective and mythological. Healing is never a linear process. Be very mindful not to inhibit the process of grieving or exploring other healthy avenues and ways to process pain. We may become softened over time, able to forget and move on but closure as it relates to this topic does not exist. If you are consistently focused on the past, you are not living in the present. This is visibly fracturing to the self and perhaps affects others trying to engage with you. Wanting closure is normal-it’s about wanting emotional pain, loss, and grief to end. Unfortunately, the human mind and heart don’t fit neatly into boxes, where we can close them, pack them away, and not feel them anymore. Tolerance of ambiguity and uncertainty is how we most effectively manage our negative emotions such as anxiety. Attempting to excise them, banish them, or control them, rarely succeeds and often simply worsens our suffering.
