The Face of Human Trafficking | Megan Rheinschild | TEDxSantaBarbara

Sex Trafficking of underage girls is happening right in our own backyards, small towns and big cities across America. These kids are our kids, profoundly vulnerable to the lure of traffickers because of childhood abuse and trauma. Ms. Rheinschild graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She received her degree in Sociology and Spanish from University of California of Santa Barbara.
Ms. Rheinschild has worked at the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office in the Victim Witness Assistance Program since 1994. She is responsible for oversight of a program that provides comprehensive services, support and advocacy to victims of violent crime and their family members.
Collaborating with local, regional and state partners, she formed a Human Trafficking Victim Advocacy Program and began a multi-agency Countywide Human Trafficking Task Force in 2013 to identify and investigate human trafficking and address the complex needs of survivors. She also has oversight of the Countywide Sexual Assault Response Team, a collaborative partnership of Law Enforcement, Rape Crisis Centers and Child Welfare Services to provide medical-legal forensic exams and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This is such a dangerous and damaging thing to do. Throughout history, statistically - women have always been trafficked and are statistically travelled more. there was no need for you to be DISMISSIVE about this. if you are looking for stats or a video - go type it into KZread and you will find it. This was a horrendous take. Please do better. Also note there willl be victims of human trafficking watching this who are NEVER HEARD and here you are coming to undermine the space this woman has so amazingly created for them. and that is damaging. Again - do better

Show some dignity...or nobody else will respect you. And don't be paranoid. I'm 40 lbs lighter and half a foot shorter and I *slept* outside at night when I was a young teen. Trafficking need to end as it causes immense suffering and violates basic human rights. Governments must take stronger action to dismantle criminal networks, increase support for victims, and address the root causes of trafficking such as poverty and lack of education. Additionally, international cooperation and collaboration are crucial in order to effectively combat this global issue.

The biggest systematic problem is the money system... interest on loans, especially compound interest on loans, causes the so called inequality that you see in the world of the rich being 1 % of the world getting richer and the poor getting poorer... not because of race, but because of negative media breaking down values and societal norms, and the monetary system which everyone so readily accepts as good. If the world had a better system which governed everyday life (money governs everyone's life whether people like it or not because people need money to buy food unless you can grow your own and be self sufficient), and the money system which is corrupt. If these things were in place, then there would possibly be no need for human trafficking... A good society is one where people don't live in huge cities because more than 2500 people in a society creates trust issues of not knowing your neighbour and issues of crime in bigger communities... Then the health system needs to change, the school curriculum should teach every child to be self sufficient starting with basic needs such as building your own shelter, making your own clothes and shoes, growing your own food, then learning about monetary systems and other subjects which require more abstract thinking. The basic survival skills should be first in school. If you are in an emergency situation of no food, no home, etc... if everyone decided to only make food, who will know how to build a house if no one wanted to learn that anymore? Say Robots take over? And the robots are not friendly but rather hostile, then what are you going to do with your knowledge that you learnt in school if you need to survive in the wilderness? So 1. education needs to change. 2. monetary system needs to change, that means the system, not the physical money you see... 3. health care needs to improve (that means humanity's attitude towards health and their responsibility in their own health status..) 4. entertainment needs to change (morals).

Any man who simply objectifies girls and are only thinking about their carnal cravings. Those who are willing to harm a person's life for a few minutes of satisfying their cravings! I agree that instead of victimizing the victim the perpetrators and those who are "buying" should be punished severely. Men should be sensitised about this from childhood. Respect for another human being.. boy or girl should be rooted into their minds. This alone will prevent this from happening repeatedly. Else we would only be exchanging words emotions and sympathy and rescuing and rehabilitating but that still doesn't solve the problem or prevent it from recurring!
