The Bush Dog, also known as the Speothos Venaticus, is a small, wild dog native to Central and South America. They are highly social animals that live in small packs and are known for their strong bond with their family members. They are skilled hunters, preying on a variety of small mammals and reptiles. Due to their elusive nature and small population, not much is known about the Bush Dog. They are considered a near-threatened species due to habitat loss and hunting.

Yeah.. When I was moving, we had to live in an RV for a few days.. it was in a small section of a forest righht beside a very long and wide river. At night when we were barbequing, there would be a coyote pack on the other side of the river just watching us and waiting. Then when we’d go to bed they’d all howl and there would always be footprints all around the RV.

A coyote mama had her litter in our neighbor's (to the east) backyard. One morning, I watched her hop over our east fence, cross to our west fence, hop over it into our west neighbor's backyard, and 30 seconds later, head back to her pups with a squirrel in her mouth. It was like she went on a shopping trip to the squirrel mart two lots down. Coyotes are excellent hunters, is what I'm saying.

@@heyitsritu It's a hybrid of a coyote and a domesticated dog. For a long time, it was believed that such an animal couldn't exist. They have different breeding cycles; coyotes are more likely to kill and eat a stray dog than mate with it; offspring would likely not survive. All these seemed like sound reasons to assume "coy-dogs" couldn't exist. But DNA research in the early 90s confirmed they do. What usually happens is a male coyote mates with a female feral (or wild) dog. Some offspring survive. They, too, remain in the wild, where in just a few generations, they are mostly coyote DNA with a little dog DNA. Now, researches are seeing coyote/wolf hybrids. Those coyotes are resilient creatures! The animal in my avatar is my old coy-dog, Matty.

I didn't really see what they were staring at because of the surrounding bushes till I caught up. They were locked in a staring competition with a thin coyote. Coyotes will totally take out small domestic pets. Keep your pets indoors and invest in a coyote vest for when you walk your dog. It would have to be a desperate coyote to attack a dog in the presence of a human, but its well worth while to take precautions.

Yep, also keep an air horn on you, and if you keep your pets in a fenced-in yard, put coyote rollers on top of your fence to keep them out. I also recommend monitoring your pets when they’re out in the yard. Invest in a surveillance camera if you need to. Get one with a motion-detector, and if possible, get an alarm with floodlights. The loud sounds and lights will scare them out of your yard. Oh, and if your cat begs to go outside but it can jump the fence, build a catio to keep it secure outside.

To people saying “coyote killed my cat or dog” Don’t let pets out unsupervised. Coyotes aren’t malicious, they’re just trying to survive. If someone let their birds out to fly around and it got killed by someone’s cat, everyone would say “it’s instinct, they can’t help it” or “well, you shouldn’t let your bird out unsupervised or not at all. It could just have easily been killed by a bird of prey, feral cats, or a hundred other things.” It is YOUR responsibility to keep YOUR pets safe. Especially if you know there are coyotes, birds of prey, and/or other predatory animals around. Coyotes are just animals trying to survive. Cats don’t belong outside. They damage ecosystems. And can be killed by cars, other cats, predators, etc.

Cats that live outside or go outside often have an average lifespan of a pet cat that goes outside is 2-5 years (yes, there is the rare outlier that can live longer. This is the average) The average lifespan of an indoor cat is 10-20 years (again there are outliers. Some live less than this, and some more). The average lifespan of a feral cat is 2-3. I’d think this alone would get people to keep their cat inside, especially if they really love and care about their cat. Cats can be just as happy or even happier living only indoors. Or make a “catio” or take can on walks with a harness and leash. It’s not like walking a dog. Walking a cat will be much, much slower, but that’s ok. Remember cats are small, they’re excellent predators, but they’re also prey to many animals. Keep your pets safe. Pets (dogs, cats, birds, horses, etc) should never roam around outside freely and unsupervised. Even in a fenced in area or tethered you should keep an eye on your pet.

Years ago, I was hiking at a environmental location between Dallas and Tarent county in Texas. I was 7 mos pregnant and just needed to hike to clear out the mental cobwebs. As I was hiking and enjoying the sunshine I noticed movement in the trees on the hill above me. As I continued hiking I noticed that the animal in the trees and brush above me was shadowing me. I saw the animal following me was a large male coyote. (Biology major) He was beautiful but I knew that I would never be able to outrun him. I found some stones and a large stick and began yelling trying to make myself appear larger (like being pregnant was not large enough 🙂). I was able to return to the check-in offc. at the center. I shared my experience with the biologist on duty and he said he was concerned when he saw I was by myself and pregnant. He said I was probably high on prenatal vitamins and should have just hiked the short trail for the kiddies. When you are hiking and enjoying the scenery you still have to be aware of your environment and the creatures that call it home. End of bedtime story lol.🙂

I live in an area with lots of Coyotes and I have to tell you they're very shy creatures. They would rather run away than cope with you. The only time they act somewhat aggressive by growling or crazy behavior is when they have pups in their den. Hiking in the desert with my dog, without realizing it, we had walked really close to a Coyote den, when out of nowhere a coyote showed up and lured my dog away. He came back home about a half hour later, tired but unharmed. He was my true desert dog, afraid of nothing, scarred as a pup by a rattlesnake bite, and he even removed his own Cactus stickers from his feet.
