You got spike spiegel to do tears in the rain. This is a gift to mankind
A very special thank you to the incomparable Steve Blum for lending that magic voice to the Tears in Rain sequence. That small tribute to Rutger Hauer is one of my favorite things I've ever worked on, and to hear Spike Spiegel say those legendary words for the first time was truly incredible.

Honestly couldn’t have said it better myself. I just started a rewatch of blade runner a few days ago, watching the first movie, all three prequel short films to 2049, and just finished the new black lotus series last night. It’s unbelievable this video was posted today. As a huge bebop fan I never really tied the two together but man this video was just made for me I feel.
Hearing Spike utter those words gave me a reaction that was so visceral. My nose began to tickle, my throat clumped up, my eyes began to well up with tears. Man what a great video.
Dystopian worlds in science fiction are supposed to be gloomy and scarily dark, but the flashing neon lights, advanced technology, and cool aesthetics (especially the Japanese themed ones) keeps you come in company to makes the world alive. That's what make cyberpunk so special. Akira comes in mind as to what influenced from Bladerunner.
@tomemeornottomeme1864

I think that's why it's so popular. It's dystopian enough to make you feel lost and hopeless, but there's still enough light to make you want to keep going anyway.

I figuratively love these videos
One of my closest younger brothers favorite series is cowboy bebop. He had tattooed Spike's ship over his heart. He would've loved hearing Spike say Bat's last soliloquy from Bladerunner. Sadly, my brother died of a heart attack at age 25. I really miss him. Thanks for doing this, kaptainkristian. It means a lot to me and brings nostalgia out from past times.
The amount of times I whispered "Holy shit" to myself while watching this. Beautiful and breathtaking. Capturing the magic of both stories in nothing less than a masterstroke. And that ending! Just knocked it out of the park and through the stratosphere. Thank you for making this and putting in so much effort because it shows.

You managed to give me that yearning feeling when watching a great show in only 7 minutes. Insane editing and pacing. Thank you for this video, and thank you for giving me the urge to rewatch Cowboy Bebop.

It's hard to explain just how hard these videos always hit. The best thing I can compare it to is the feeling I get when I shut down whatever I'm doing to listen to a complete album. These pieces are incredible at capturing me and letting me get lost for a little while.

How is everyone in these comments able to hit the nail on the head as to why KaptainKristain is one of the greatest video essayists of all time. Analyzing media is one thing but adding to it is a wonder very few get to accomplish especially as great as this.
The editing between traditional 2D animation, live action, and CGI 20+ years apart and making it seamless is God-tier.

I’ve been waiting so long
It's great to see you back! This honestly is one of my favorite video essay channels on KZread. This one immediately got my attention. Two of my favorite stories, by kaptainkristian, and starring Steve Blum? Well now _I know_ I have to watch this.
This is such an incredible video you have made kristian especially with the editing and the parallels that _Blade Runner_ and _Cowboy Bebop_ have in common. On top of that, hearing Steve Blum providing Roy Batty's final last words from the film, just gets me chills and feels just like how Spike Spiegel would've said it in the anime.

Holy hell man. I love that you're exploring your own meaning with making these videos, blending straightforward breakdown vids with your own narrative and emotional explorations, looking for what you get out of making these and what directions you want to go. I also love your exploration of interconnections, I feel as if both Bebop and Blade Runner explore the positive and negative of connection. Human connection being the thing that we all need, but even corporate connections and corruption becoming a virus, or cancer, that is as vast as it is impossible to kill. Both stories showing humans afloat in an uncaring ecosystem, and forced to define their roles and what connections they need for themselves, no matter how trivial they are to others. Amazing work.
**OH KAPTAIN MY KAPTAIN** You were such an influence on some of the older videos I used to make. Glad to see you back, and sad to see you'll be gone for another 700 years till the next video. See you space cowboy.
Your essays-all your essays- are fucking amazing, incomparable. I’m always completely blown away by your tact and precision, your reverence for your subject matter, and your (frankly frustrating) concise exercise in brevity. You are the real deal man
These videos are always so good! This one hits home.
I'm a screenwriter, aspiring director. Cowboy Bebop and Blade Runner are my top 2 favorite cinematic experiences of all time. They're very inspiring in my writing. This video is so incredible. You have done such a phenomenal job with the pairing of the two. One of the best KZread videos I've ever seen. Kudos man. Thank you so much. Such a joy to watch.
Just amazing - intertwining the films, the audio, Steve Blum's beautiful Spike... And it flows so seamlessly I'm awestruck. These two icons plus ghost in the shell really define so much about the genre, and the investigation of humanity for me. Thank you so much for putting those feelings into words and art
Spike reading Tears in Rain with Space Lion in the background is the crossover I never know I want most
Cyberpunk dystopias are always dark and dreary, ready to remind you of despair. But I think the whole point of that setting and a materialistic modern world of machines is to provide us a sharp contrast in which humanity shines through like the neon lights blazing in the smog. These stories always start with the machines and how cool they may seem, but the end is always about humanity in humans or otherwise. And that's why I love them - it's one thing to have a story of humans falling in love in romance dramas or fighting a big bad in action adventures, but to see a hopeful human or human-like figure do it in a world that is rid of hope is beautiful by itself. Great video, wasn't expecting to shed a tear but I think you did a great job in expressing the genre and these two wonderful pieces of work.
Your work is so amazing and inspiring, thank you for sharing with us 🌿
Evertime I watch this video, it does 2 things 1. Inspire me to create 2. Reminds me of the value of life
Your visual editing has never failed but the auditory transitions from this video feel SO much cleaner and thought out than before. Glad to have you back Kap.

I only saw Blade Runner 2049 last year and seeing this comparison only gives me more goosebumps about why it’s easily one of my all time favorites. Glad to see you back sir, and thank you Steve for that goddamn rendition.
We back baby
That was really poetic, I love the synchronicity between these projects. You really artfully illustrated that & I was awed by Steve Blum being in the video
Thank you for this, it was beautiful! It's so good to have you back making videos again!!!
Brother, I get a chill when your upload notifications come across my phone screen. And then you throw these two genre-defining icons together... I can't wait to go home and watch it again on the big screen. You kill it every time.
My God, this is a very beautiful work. The Tears in Rain monologue voiced by Steve gave me chills I hadn't felt in a long time. And it is true, we all look for something real, something meaninful in a relentless wolrd. Too bad not everyone gets to find it, but that's just the way it is.
So happy to see you making videos more! thank you so much!
This is so beautifully done ! Absolutely masterful analysis, the editing and script are perfect.... Thank you 👍🍺
MOM DAD GET IN HERE HES BACK
Having watched and loved both, this really hits the feels.
I simply love all of this! great essay and editon as well; once in a while I watched it one more time!
So glad you are making videos again. Love your work so much.
This video is a masterpiece, Blade Runner and Cowboy Bebop in parallel and their similarities, thanks for that
Every video you've ever produced has blown me away, but this one was on an especially high level. You really, truly, absolutely are _the best at what you do._
Beautiful video! It's poetic how every image matches perfectly ilustrating the mirroring echoes of these two iconic pieces. Makes me love more and appreciate both even more. 👏👏👏 Great job!
I love you kaptainkristian. I really needed such a thing in my life right now, because of some specific reasons. Exactly right now, yes. Thank you for your timing. As a very long time hard fan of both Blade Runner and Cowboy Bebop, and a person who lived his life with very similar thoughts with Roy Batty, I can not thank you enough for bringing this into my door step. Love you, and thank your for your hard work.
This might be one of the most beatiful youtubve videos ever created. I got chills down my spine when Spike spoke the Roy Batty line. Both these stories have had such a postivie impact on me. Thank you sir for putting them together
Quality over quantity. There's a few of these videos I go back and re-watch once or twice a year even though I've already seen them so many times. There's not a lot of them but they're so well made and impactful.
I have been waiting for your return. Thankyou, sir.
Nice to see that you're continuing from the shining video! I love your editing style!
He’s back!
Every time he puts out something new it gives me just a few short minutes of forgetting the world is on fire lol he draws you in like little else can
BRO YOU MAKE EXPERINCES. its just beautiful man. really glad you feeling better and back with the videos. you and your work inspire almost any video i work on. Exited for the next one. SEE YOU BLADE RUNNER...
This was beautiful. Actually moved me to tears. Cowboy Bebop has been my most loved work of art since my childhood and Blade runner being up there as well in my adulthood. Thank you so very much for this.
Every time he comes back it gets better. See you Kaptain…
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Man, the Myth, the Legend!!! Good to have you back, Kap'n!
I cannot express how much I enjoy what you make. This is so perfectly set together. Thank you so much.
Hell ya a new video and about my two favorite franchises. So good thanks for the content!
The king has returned! Back like he never left
This is my absolute favorite channel on KZread. Every piece is so well thought out and edited to convey very complex ideas and themes in an incredibly simple and effective manner. Every property covered usually already means so much to me, but Kaptainkristian manages to put it in a new or exciting light that I had never thought of. Thank you so much for what you do and I can't wait for the next one.
Wow so great to have another video from you Kaptain. It's a joy to always hear from you

Man, my heart skips a beat whenever I see a new video by you in my feed. So glad you're well and making new videos!
Damn I got chills from that ending.
This is more like a poem than an essay, and it's beautiful.
The transition from the campfire embers to the city that starts around 2:10 in this video, with the swelling score, was one of the most breathtaking moments I’ve ever seen in a cinema. Gives me actual goosebumps every time I see it. Thank you for another banging video Kap, beautiful and unexpected
This is ducking amazing!! Thank you so much for your hard work!!
I truly love everything you create. When I see a new video it literally makes my day without fail. You create an ambiance in your storytelling that is wholly unique.
Man your videos are always amazing as they never come of as pretentious or edgy as some other video essays out there. And also what you do talking about art in film, shows, etc. IS an art in of itself. Whether you explain something I've never noticed before or viewing something with new lens, I always end up just appreciating those previous works even more. Thanks for all this
Glad you're uploading again, love your work.
Absolutely beautiful video. Thanks Kaptain
A kaptainkristian subscription is that one relationship that you never can quite get away from. You were together consistently for a long while some time ago before he went away. He showed up and hung around for a little bit, but was right out the door again soon after. And here he is again. And all your time spent with him is amazing and memorable. And he'll leave soon, you know he will, and you make peace with the knowledge that you don't know when or if he'll come back. It's been months. Years. And the one thing you know is that whenever he comes back, you won't be ready but you'll welcome it with all your heart regardless. Because kaptainkristian videos are just straight up fucking incredible.
Dude you have yet to upoload a video I haven"t immediately fallen in love with. I don't care how long they take, you're incredible man, a true inspiration.
I am so glad to see you in my feed again. Welcome back.

This video is incredible, thank you for this work of art. The parallels are undeniable and it's beautiful.
You are on another level, man. Thank you so much for this wonderful content. It's clear that your work comes from a place of passion and love for these things and it really comes through. As long as you keep making them, I will keep watching them.
Always glad to see your work.
