My daughter has had this issue for over 2 years now. Smell and taste not just food. It set off a riot of psychosis and depression and untreatable acne.

I lost my sense of smell completely over a year ago with Covid, and it's only partially returned. Interestingly enough, it's poop/fart/sewage smells that I still have a hard time smelling now. To be honest, I'm not that choked up about losing that ability. I really feel for her if that is all she's able to smell, good grief that would be depressing.

That's how mine started once I was able to smell again. I think it is the brain being overwhelmed by the neuron damage and signals are "scrambled" for a long time. I felt like I was always sitting downwind of a garbage dump or raw sewage. Next I started to smell things that were very hard to overlook. For instance I smelled " natural gas" leaking all the time, but there was never any leaking gas around me/

I had COVID in 2020. After 6 months of no sense of smell when my smell recovered it has been nothing but parosmia. I now have regained some of my super sensory sense of smell that I naturally had pre COVID. However, phantom smells are constant. Taste is also highly affected.

2 years ago I lost of my sense of smell, and not because of covid. No one believes me when I say that, but I lost it due to a sinus infection. I was in the same boat as her though for a while, where everything smelled DISGUSTING. However I was like this because I was smelling the inflammation in my nose. Since then I have not gotten better. My taste is all messed up, and me losing my sense of smell hasn't been a blessing, only a curse. People tell me all the time how lucky I am bc I cant smell when sumn stinks, then I just wanna remind them of all the things I can't smell anymore nor will be able to ever smell PLUS I dont even remember what things smell like. It is HELL to lose your sense of smell. But I do think its HILARIOUS when people ask me to smell something and I just stare at them waiting for them to think about what they just said, then they burst into apologizing.. Its so funny Im not gonna lie.

Ear infections and sinus infections have been linked with covid. In the last 2 years I have had double ear infections and serious sinus infections more than a few times. Never before. Eye health is also connected.

Since Covid 19 over two years ago, which damaged my right lung, losing short term memory and also completely no smell or taste and I've been to two ENT specialists who were honest and had no valid cure or answers!

Over the period of a month or 2, all I could smell was cigarette smoke! It was driving me crazy. It was like I was walking around with someone holding the lit end of a cigarette directly under my nose at all times and I was scared that that would be my life from then on in. I'm thankful that it finally went away for the most part, but I feel like I still don't smell things the way they actually are. 😤

When I had covid back in 2020, any time I exercised, I could smell rubbing alcohol with no discernible source. Thankfully it went away when the covid did.

Jan, with all due respect, I have been taking zinc supplements for years in recommended daily doses and still lost my sense of smell and taste for awhile after COVID. See my comment several above yours as to what I did that it eventually returned.

Sorry to hear that, they are far more important to our lives than we realize. When that guy said in the NY Times that he could not smell wine anymore, which is a big part of enjoying it, and it made him sad, at first people really gave him a bad time, little did they realize.....
