@@robbierichmond2553 I've had anosmia since April, and Parosmia since end of September, the 1st month was very scary, i didn't leave the house, as the outside world smelled awful, I didnt eat or drink much at all & lost 2 stone in a few weeks, The groups on Facebook gave me so many tips & ideas, of what foods to try & I'd be lost without them. The past 4 weeks, my smell is getting better, I can smell my perfume & certain foods but my taste is either, nothing or disgusting. I was able to have a shower & use a nice shower gel without gagging, aw the little things😊 I also managed to cook a Christmas dinner for my family & sit at the table, with a little plate of mash for myself. It's a different time scale for everyone, no real cure, just time. Just practice smelling everything to wake up the nerves 🤞

I did the cranberry in the morning and lemon water once or twice later in the day. And was just trying to force myself to eat anything with veggies/ real healthy food. After 2/3 weeks I noticed symptoms going away and I kept going. Yesterday I ate in the morning and was in shock at how much my taste had changed back to normal overnight, I ate an omelette with onions in it which I could not tolerate at all before for 4/5 months. I have been eating a lot of chicken/ bean/ avocado burritos as well lol but yea. I think it’s mostly the removal of sugar from my diet which allowed my brain to fix and remember tastes/smells

I have had this for 17 years, tried all different medications. Tegretol works best, it took it away almost completely for a few year. Tegretol is the medication I always take, but currently trying different ones on top of that. My parosmia is worse some days than others. Sometimes EVERYTHING smells so bad doesnt matter where I am, and no way I could eat. Other days its just certain foods and smells that trigger it, on these days I can block my nose by not using it at all for about half an hour, then I can eat without any smell, food will be more bland but that really doesn't bother me anymore. Good luck everyone getting it recently. For most people it goes within months to a couple years. If any of you smoke, 100% stop or you'll never get rid. I don't smoke now, but I didnt stop rite away as no one told me to and I didnt realise it would prolong the parosmia. Air hugs to you all...

Update/Praise Report: Successfully ate a Turkey sandwich. Not too bad. Mostly tolerable and I'm not noticing that nauseating cigarette butt taste. There is still a slight after taste but I think that's just more in my head because I'm still neurotic about it. Doesn't sound like much, but this is a big step for me. I got some frozen cod thawing in my sink. I'm gonna throw it in the oven in a min and see what happens. Not just today though. I've been smelling familiar food scents more and more recently. 2 weeks ago I smelled Doritos chips. Last week I smelled cooked potatoes. Yesterday I drove by Panda Express to get some rice to eat and smelled teriyaki chicken. For a while all I could smell was trash. I'm in month 3 of this condition so this is much earlier than I expected. I'm super psyched and all the more thankful. Gonna take it slow and not push too hard too fast. I've been smell-training and taking zinc, potassium, b-12, and a multivitamin. Also been praying of course.

I lost my sense of smell around the time I got moved to work in Intensive Care(beginning of April?) . This was the time when losing sense of smell and taste wasn't recognised as a covid symptom. I thought it was because of the masks I was having to wear while working long shifts. My sense of smell eventually came back, and now the past couple of months I have experienced intense parosmia. I cannot bare to be in the kitchen while my partner cooks. I cant eat any meat, anything with garlic or onion, I no longer drink tea. I've started drinking coffee because its so strong i think it actually disguises that taste(i used to hate coffee). Brushing my teeth is a task, even having a shower/doing the washing. The smell of cleaning products makes me feel sick. Some days its better and I think I'm making progress, and then it all literally turns to shit again and I'm stuck with wondering what is safe to eat. Its coming up to Christmas now and I'm really dreading having parosmia with all the foods around me I used to love. I hate eating.

Mine is diminishing somewhat. Its not just foods, hair products, perfumes, roses, all have the exact same smell of a strong chemical. Certain foods will have that same smell and taste unfortunately. Especially fries, well caramelized steaks, chocolate, most pastries and bread. And with me it's the colder those foods the worse it is. I used to love the smell of coffee but now it's abhorrent.

Not sure if I have parosmia or not. I had COVID-19 and lost my sense of smell the night before Easter Sunday. It took about a month for the smell to return, and when it did, everything smelled like it always had. Only a month or 6 weeks after that did things start to change. Everywhere I go now, I smell the same two scents in varying degrees. When I smell (or taste) something that's supposed to smell sweet or earthy, it smells/tastes like nothing I had ever smelled before, the closest thing I could describe it as being like an overpowering fake-flower scent. Like, an unnatural, non-food-like sickeningly sweet smell with just a hint of meatiness. When I smell something that's supposed to smell savory or even foul, I get this variation on that other scent, and it smells more like old barbecue sauce that's been sitting out in the sun for days. Everything I smell that has a really strong scent I can detect the real smell of, but only combined with the two omnipresent variations on the same basic scent...that unnatural sometimes-meaty sweetness, almost like something is stuck at the back of my nasal passages (although it doesn't physically feel like that) Not the worst smell for sure, but it's very distressing to encounter it all the time, with things that totally shouldn't smell that way.

This is kinda wrong to say, but i feel relieved im not the only one experiencing this and can relate to a lot of you here. I will try to update my coment along my recovery (hopefully a fast one). So im in my 3rd or 4th day with parosmia, i find that i can enjoy sweets, in the sense that they dont taste bad and i can feel the sweetness, mostly processed sweets, honey tastes rly bad, apple and mango have been my go to breakfast, oatmeal is fine too, plain liquid yogurt, chickpeas, brocolli (cold, if its hot smells bad), soup tastes kind of ok, fresh cheese is fine as well, ive been adding pepper to the cheese and veggies so i can at least taste something even if its only the spice in it. Peach iced tea (store bought) is rly good too. For the smells, i recomend those things you put over the nose for swimming if you want but i feel like i dont want to block my nose of the equation so i dont use it. Smelling nail polish felt really good bc it was the only smell that was the same as what i smelled pre parosmia, but it might not be very good to constantly inhale it as components are toxic, i have something called vicks vaporub and that has a light smell that i can feel and its rly similar to pre parosmia, today ive added tea trea oil, citrus oil, eucalyptus and red berries (some borrowed from a friend as its expensive) which sometimes i can feel the smell, sometimes i cant. i also try to smell other things i know along the day and see what it feels like, i focus on things i already knew the smell of just bc i can rly look for that familiar scent. Also today im gonna try and wash my nose thouroughly with sea water as i feel that when i go to the beach it rly cleans my airways, if you dont live near the sea make a water and salt mix and give it a try. So thats that, tomorrow ill smell train and clean my nose again, also gonna do yoga with emphasis on the breathing and rly focusing on it. Ill report in a few days if a feel a change, hopefully.

I've recently realised I have this too, it started 3 months post covid (i never got diagnosed with covid, but i showed symptoms and had been around a group of people who all tested positive so that was a given) and i thought i might've had some problem with my body, it started off with garlic and onion and the tastes were really off, so i assumed that was the only problem and avoided the two, but my mum was cooking meat at some point and i smellt the same smell from the gaic and onion, i assumed she put some sort of seasoning with those in, but she was cooking the meat plain, with nothing added, that when i realised meat is also a factor and it has gotten worse overtime, more foods i have to avoid now (which i used to love) like houmus, any crisps (that aren't ready salted) anything with garlic or onion in any form, citrus-y kinda stuff, it's slowly getting to me and i didnt expect that now i'm gonna have to be a vegetarian, i have ibs and already find eating difficult so yeah this sucks. I've had it for around 2 months now.

Manuka honey put up the nostrils and definitely include the very tip of the nostrils as in the tip of the nose but inside the nose, will heal the nose. I have suffered for 5 years with smelling smoke all the time, and musty smells that no one but me can smell. It’s horrible! I tried moisturising the nostrils with moisturiser and using menthol just outside the nostrils ( don’t put that up the nose) and using antibiotic cream from the GP, plus salt water sprays and neti bottle procedures to no avail. But in desperation l am now using Manuka honey, just slightly watered down with previously boiled water cooled. Initially my nose bled but it’s lessening the smell of smoke by 80% and l am hoping it will cure the condition. I think now that the condition is triggered by an infection of the nostril tissue which is difficult to cure. I think the fact that the Manuka honey is lessening the severity of the condition, that must point to an infection of the nostrils.

When I first got covid (still have it, still battling with parosmia) I only had loss of smell not taste for weeks. After two to three weeks my sense smell started to come back. fast forward to now a few days ago certain foods started to smell like rotten garbage or something else, I don't even know what that smell is. I ended up eating some of foods to see if it would taste like that and it does. Everything that is sour or basically any type of meat tastes like this now. Ranch dressing is the worst for me. When I'm eating salad with ranch on it, It tastes like it has been in the garbage in the direct sunlight for years. I hate this so much I just want to be able to enjoy my favorite foods again without wanting to puke and cry. :(((((

I feel nauseous even in a garden centre, because of the flowers. I'm surviving on a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice for breakfast, which I make myself eat, then I may have a couple of crackers in the evening. Even a glass of water is disgusting. It probably got no onion or garlic mixed with it because there the worse things . I smelled the wash softener and was nearly sick. Choc biscuit not a great diet I’ve put weight on 🙄. Find something you like and just eat that that’s all you can do until fingers crossed it goes away . I do feel it’s carming down abit . I can smell a few things if I put my nose right to them . I’m going to try to do smell training I saw an article that says to smell 4 different smells twice a day they made a list :eucalyptus, lemon, rose, cinnamon, chocolate, coffee, lavender, honey, strawberries, thyme. My parosmia is triggered by onions and garlic or very strong smells but sweet smells are fine. I’ll update see what happens

The smell has changed from rotten onion to like strong orange citrus like smell is very strange but it’s not nearly as bad!! Sometimes I get smells out of nowhere that are not there. And sometimes I can smell specific smells a lot better. Like if I was making stir fry and I had place tomato’s or zucchini I am very Briefly able to smell those two and then they are gone.
