Always take initiative guys. Just because training is different doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be training on your own anyways. For my guard brothers and sisters. Once you get home enroll in combat martial arts classes,go to the shooting range. Just because basic ends doesn’t mean the objective does. Keep on fighting guys. Don’t let anyone stop you from your goals or prevent you from being a warrior

I’m coming fresh out of basic from FT. Jackson and it is definitely a unique experience going during a pandemic compared to what everybody else describes. The changes were that we didn’t have a shark attack, we had a “Yellow phase” which was just us in quarantine for 2 weeks, we had our masks on at all times, in the gas chamber we only took off our masks for a couple of seconds, we didn’t do combatives, we didn’t have wall locker inspections... oh and no family days or in person graduations

I’m at fort benning currently. Don’t join right now, reception is about twice as long as it would be, and if you get sick or anyone around you gets sick you get sent to quarantine for 2 weeks. If I was you I would push your ship date back. I’ve been here for 2 months and haven’t even started basic yet. I’m gonna continue to push through though it’ll be over soon. But if you haven’t shipped here already wait because what I’ve been hearing is basic training is watered down from what it normally is. No shark attack, gas chamber, and combatives. I’m hoping that it will actually prepare me to be a soldier. I’m 19D btw and I’m going to go through the 22 week osut, unless they shortened it which I’m not sure about I’ve been hearing mixed things. If you have any questions drop them below.

Not only is basic training different but the process to go through meps is also harder to get through if you run a high temp at the hotel you're getting booted and you'll have to renegotiate your contract so my advice to people joining up now is to take that quarantine seriously most recruiters will just say you quarantined and throw a random date up there you should actually quarantine not only to protect others but to also yourself because I can almost guarantee you will not be able to get the same mos.

Boy do i have a storie for yall, i was at fort jackson 3 - 13 brovo company. My platoon "2nd platoon" was the corentine bay. My BCT was so unique, made me resilient as stone but definally know im mentally fit for the job. No family day, graduated in OCP's and didn't get the basic trainning i wanted. But i appreciate the drills we had keeping us going and keeping the motivation up when morale was low. If your reading this, just join and get it done, it easier but still get your mind right for anything and maintain military discipline and standards. Learn what you can learn and have a open mind with the new tactics that are beimg placed.

I enlisted back in February, and I leave on Sunday to be shipped out and from what I hear from people who come back say that I am going to be there so much longer, and that they even said Red Phase virtually doesn’t exist anymore. They told me that you get there and spend the two weeks quarantined, during those two weeks it’s most of the classroom instruction of red phase, but toned down. Then after that basic is only 8 weeks long. I was told that by a soldier who came back from Fort Leonard Wood which is where I’m going. I’ve been watching your videos for the last year getting ready and it really does help, but since of COVID I’m not really sure what to expect from Basic Training since the Army is still learning how to do it as they do it.

I was at basic during the first wave of Covid. They cancelled combatives and a few other training events. Instead of smoking you for not being close enough they smoke you for not being 6 ft apart. We had to eat Hot As and MREs everyday as the DFAC was closed. DSs didn't really know what to do with us at first but now they are probably more prepared. There's never a perfect time to join, you just get it done. Ft Jackson.

I just got back from a full corona cycle, and all I can say is that there’s a decent amount of stuff that you miss out on. We didn’t have combatives, we didn’t get the full experience of the gas chamber. We had a thing called yellow phase. Yellow phase kinda sucked because we were the first cycle with yellow phase, so they didn’t really have a good plan for it. We didn’t even have a shark attack on day zero. Also, most of the day we just sat in the bay waiting to get a class from a drill sergeant or to go get chow

I just got back. I shipped out March 10th. we had no idea what was going on... it went from getting yelled at to stand shoulder to shoulder in the Defac, to spread the fu** out, 6 feet apart ! then the defac got completely closed so we ate MRE's and hot a's everyday. they took hand to hand combat but made up for it with extra rucks... we did everything else the exact same though. but family day was cancelled. it really took away a lot of the motivation. but it sucks either way I feel like. but if I could have waited, I would have.

I just graduated from Jackson today. And I joined during the pandemic. It’s very different. There’s a new phase before red phase. Called yellow phase. It’s basically a 2 week quarantine but it counts toward red phase. Then it goes on as normal. The only thing that sucked was having to wear mask on rucks and no family day or anyone allowed to go to graduation.

Went to Fort Sill, was the first cycle that got impacted by covid, it was a very messy cycle. Drill SGT’s didn’t really know what to do most the time and we were thrown into a 2 week quarantine while still doing PT and various other things throughout the day. Currently at AIT in fort lee and they didn’t put us into a quarantine when we got here and we had a covid outbreak and I have covid atm. I’d say wait to join until everything goes back to normal because it ruined a lot of BCT for my cycle.

I shipped to Benning on August 18th and I still haven’t started training, I got sent to quarantine at camp Kelly. Minimum 2 weeks here and then I’ll have to go back to 30th AG and btw there is no receiving letters or phones at 30th. Being sick at Camp Kelly is the only reason I have my phone right now, I wouldn’t be surprised if I don’t even start training until October. If you can’t wait because of finances or something sure go in but if you can wait then don’t fucking join right now. I’m extremely fortunate I got to go to Kelly even if I’m as sick as a dog, not being able to receive letters and standing in pointless formations all day in reception sucks.

I'd hold out if possible. I feel like those of us who shipped in the first few days of March got the last half-decent cycle, EVEN WITH the introduction of all the COVID restrictions midway through... from what I've been hearing from my contacts who shipped for more recent iterations of BCT, it's gotten pretty watered down with all the things that have been cancelled due to COVID

I did basic at fort sill, ok. Delta 1/19 FA BN. I was one of the first Covid-19 bct cycles. I started in Bravo 1/19 but got recycled bc I got into some trouble you know how it is but anyway it was very strange we wore masks 90% of the time. Lots of people ended up having Covid and we all got tested for it and had to mandatorily do 2 weeks of quarantine. Just wanted to share that. But it was weird but things got done and we still got most of the training somethings weren’t allowed like combative training was cancelled bc they didn’t want us to be close to each other and they wanted to limit close contact. The DS’s weren’t really allowed to get into our faces too much and they had masks on too. It was fun though I’m in AIT at Fort Lee, Va. I’m 91B (vehicle wheeled mechanic) but it was fun and hard and annoying as it should be. But learned a lot of values and am glad I joined and proud to have earned the title soldier. Ready to further my career and do more things. Currently trying to get Airborne training. Hooahhh🇺🇸

Boot camp is boot camp no matter what it’s gonna suck. Sadly I had real boot camp from reception through the second week of basic. Reception flat out sucks, the first two weeks were mentally hard getting smoked and yelled at treated like crap pretty much. Then boom COVIDs getting worse all around the world. Family day is cancelled, transportation to AIT is delayed, and apparently we wouldn’t leave until we were allowed to. The drill sergeants stopped yelling at us, social distancing kicks in, chose extended, and this quarantine happens. We switched buildings (to a better building) and no training for a month and we put plastic wraps on our bunks. No PT, eating MRES and hot a’s all day in bed. Mentally it was draining because we didn’t know what would happen. Then one day we start training again after we’re we’re corona free or tested (if someone was tested the company was on quarantine for an extra 2 weeks and it would reset. Everything was watered down, yeah cramming everything in 5 weeks is draining but still there were no real consequence. Most of us were pushed through unless you really really messed up. Everything was shortened and it was rewarding in the end as it should’ve been. Yeah Sitting around for a free check is nice (since millions were unemployed) but morally it sucked. Watching these people who didn’t deserve, terrible people or even sick call rangers were making it through no problem. AIt was drowned out too. There’s no point of phasing up anymore. And then on top of that if you have a strict company, have fun. Although I only like this as of now since I have nothing going on, no job, and I’m away for a while. Plus schools are watered down and shortened. It depends on your situation though.

How certain direct commissions work? Having 2 bachelor's degree? I know this won't apply to all but curious to see what are some benefits from grinding in the civilian world.
