omg this is one of the best covers ive heard of bocchis solo, but im starting to get into guitar and i was wondering how you do that thing at the beginning where u put ur middle finger on all the strings of the fret and it still made sound?

  • @-Bsand-

    @-Bsand-

    11 ай бұрын

Thank you for the kind words! and hell yeah, so happy to hear you're picking up guitar. What I'm doing in the very beginning (in like the first second or so) is strumming the 5th fret harmonic on all the strings. A bit of background: you get a string harmonic when you divide the string up into equal parts. So when you divide the string into two equal parts (i.e. you divide it at the 12th fret) you get a harmonic, when you divide the string into three equal parts (i.e. you divide it at the 7th fret) you get a harmonic, and when you divide it into four equal parts (i.e. at the 5th fret) you get another harmonic. You can get higher harmonics (5, 6, 7, etc. equal parts), but they get a bit too quiet to sound good. So to hit a harmonic, for example on the 5th fret like in the video, you hold your finger gently on the string over the 5th fret itself (like, on top of the actual metal fret, without pressing down, just touching), and you strum like normal. This forces the string to divide its vibration into equal parts, and you get a harmonic. NOTE: sometimes the neck pickup can be placed directly under one of the division points of the vibration (called a node) -- so if you don't hear the harmonic, try switching to a different pickup. Let me know if this didn't explain what I'm doing! Good luck with learning guitar! :)

Just takes a lot of practice! Your fingers will eventually develop the muscle memory to sit in the right place to mute all the other strings. Took me 3-4 weeks of ~daily practice. Besides this, I just broke up the riff into smaller chunks and played them slow enough that I could get the sound right. Then over time I built up speed. It’s frustrating but you’ll get it eventually, I promise. Good luck!
