That's the way I would cook them in foil packets on the grill. If I had some fresh corn on the cob I would add that in too. On the stove fresh green beans always had to have bacon and onions, mashed potatoes always went with pork chops (fried, of course). Mama grew up in central-east Texas. That's the way her grandma cooked, her Mama, her and the way she taught me. It was only after my husband bought me a grill that I changed any way I cooked.

My cat woke me up at 2:00am as well, must be the time of year. Haven’t seen coyotes for months. Smart cat, she is well aware of coyotes and cars. Growing up on a large farm we raised all our food. I was raised up eating peas & new potatoes, and fixed the way Gina fixes them except we cooked the potatoes for a time, before adding rest of ingredients. Love following along with your projects, looking forward to the new project. Today is first nice morning since about March. Wow, it’s a beautiful 70°.

He would go out and rob a few red potatoes from the garden and pick some fresh peas. Brings back so many memories.

Did y’all hear me clapping from Mississippi when you put that last little corner piece in. I have enjoyed you and your wife building this so much. I would have thought you needed a lot more people to build it. Y’all did a wonderful job and I’m so proud of you both. Also we make something like the potato dish here but we call it stewed potatoes. We make a white bass out of a couple tablespoons of butter melted and then stir in the same amount of flour. Let it bubble till it turns white ( white sauce) then add milk. Pour that in the stew to thicker it up. I have never added peas or onions to mine but will try it next time. With cornbread it’s one of the food my Mom made that I will never forget. Here you go.. clapping from Mississippi 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Beautiful Building!

When I was growing up, my mother would dig a few small potatoes (before the regular harvest) and add them to fresh peas. When I got married my MIL would take new potatoes and boil them and add the butter, milk and a small amount of flour (a couple of tablespoons) to thicken the milk. Then she would serve it over cornbread. Delicious.

I remember as a child having the new peas , potatoes and onions cooked in milk and butter at my grandparents, that was in Visalia, Calif. 55 yrs ago. I'll have to it give a try again, especially with the cooler weather, I now live in Eastern Washington. Good memories. I thought it tasted pretty good. Also grew up with sliced potatoes cooked in milk and butter in a covered skillet, seasoned with salt and pepper. That was also good. Wanted to add wished I could pet Figaro, he is such a character. Olivia has some pretty cool looking chickens, like the feathery heads, barn is almost finished, just in time before the frosty weather comes. You have quite a nice life style going on there, many Blessings to the Lumnah family and critters.

my french grandmother used to make his recipe for us, and we loved it... but she steamed the potatoes whole and the peas, after she would cut the potatoes and put them in a pan with the butter, cook them a while, add the peas and the milk and cook for another 5 minutes and that was it!!! Delicious. Do not know where she got this recipe from, but she lived in New York for a few years so maybe she got it there. I make it from time to time and i really enjoy it.

Hi Al, Gina and Oliva. We grew up in New Jersey and we never really had that exact pea, potatoes and onion mix. We did however have like a rue mix of those with flour added and freshly ground nutmeg, if you have it, if not ground nutmeg works in this dish as well. Make your rue, just lightly cooked for a few minutes, add, potatoes, onions and peas and warmed milk into pot and cook until thickened. YUMMY, please give that a try. One more thing, I forgot to mention earlier, when you are canning your tomatoes, try adding fresh basil leaves in a few jars that you plan to use for Italian type of cooking, spaghetti, lasagna ..etc..I am sure you'll enjoy it. bon appetite.

My mom would make cream peas and new potatoes. I had forgotten about that. She used tiny baby potatoes with the skin on. She has been gone many years. Thanks for the memory. If I wasn’t in the middle of moving I would make a batch. Next year we should have fresh peas from our garden on our new homestead.

Wow I can't imagine what you would build next. Your homestead looks so pretty now with your beautiful home and all the new buildings and your greenhouse. Whatever you do I'm sure it will serve a good purpose and be useful to the homestead. Unless you are moving and starting over on a bigger place? I live in Iowa make the new potato and peas every year. So yummy but I boil the two in water, add my milk. Then make a roux with butter and flour or take the easy way and just use potato flakes to thicken. Add that to the milk and vegetables then season with salt and pepper and a little nutmeg. Such a yummy meal. My husband had to have meat too so served it with ham .

Watch your vlog every morning with breakfast, energizes me for the day! But first thing I watch for is which hairstyle will Gina be wearing! Just when I think I have a fav, Gina, you come up with another one. 😉 I still think there are horse/s involved somewhere in the Lumnah's master plan. Marge Littleboy has a wonderful pony suggestion (see earlier comment.) And you must admit those doors are large enough for equines. No clue what single project could be a hundred times bigger, however, maybe its a combination of a pond, wraparound porch, goat house renovations, or perhaps permanent fencing throughout the entire homestead. Al, don't keep us in suspense too long. I'm an old lady! LOL

When our neighbors asked why? We said, " To warm up!" With the area being so beautiful a nice Norwegian Fjord Pony - they are a large pony, (800-900 lbs & 14 hands high) not small, to carriage drive, sleigh rides in the winter & ride, would be wonderful! They are a draft pony so you could even haul wood, mow & till fields. Being from Norway they are well adapted to the weather in your region & are easy keepers & very hearty. A great 4-H project horse for your daughter. Just a thought!

That night having the dish, my ryes were opened to peas! A new favorite dish for sure! 💗

I grew up in Southwest Arkansas and my mom fixed fresh "English" peas with baby potatoes. What I remember the most about that was how she "peeled" those little potatoes. She'd put them in a boiler with a small amount of water and shake the pot vigorously making a terrible noise. Miraculously though those little beauties would be peeled and added to the peas and cooked. I remember how tasty that was. 🤗
