Counterfeit Culture Moscow: Inside the Russian Fashion Black Market
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
For the second installment of Counterfeit Culture, Highsnobiety’s first-ever documentary series, we headed to Moscow to find what’s driving Russia’s thriving market for fake streetwear. Russia’s counterfeit industry stretches back decades, to when Communism isolated the country from Western products. Now, almost 30 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia’s borders are open, but a fragile economy, international sanctions and low wages has kept the country’s demand for fakes alive and well.

That "Counterfeit Culture" Champion logo would look nice embroidered on a hoodie.
8:18 "Just what you need, a black color without any childish cocky orange stuff" *pulls out dollar bill printed jacket .0001 seconds later
Incredible video. It's absolutely true, the internet has created a global youth streetwear culture. Everyone's wearing graphic hoodies and kicks. Fantastic perspective on Russian streetwear culture.
really need to do an episode on South Africa. streetwear has become the 'it' thing, but the counterfeit culture is also huge especially in Johannesburg

They are spot-on about Adidas’s cultural meaning to Russian youth! In the 80’s and 90’s, it was definitely the choice thread of local badasses, as well as of more serious thugs! As a teen in Russia in the 90’s, I totally attest to that - seeing somebody rock that Trefoil was both super pretty and supper badass! 😎

The extra work put in to write "Counterfeit Culture" with popular brands was very impressive you don't come across that much effort in KZread videos that often these days. Very well done, you just earned a like and a sub! Keep up the good work.
Since the beginning of the video said these were made in Vietnam, I’d love to see a video on Vietnam!!

Carol the copyright here in my country is nothing :)) it’s not true to say that people cant afford the real things, but they dont know anything about it, not educated, and there’s no law about it here. It’s amazing that some buy fake things with higher prices than some legit things :)) But one thing for sure every fashion festival there’s no fake goods like Korean 🤭
Lol the reseller hating on people creating fakes is aware that his mother was one of them right?? He probably grew up on the money his mother made making counterfeit goods SMH

This is honestly incredible, I currently live in moscow and am marveling over 2 things first is that you got to the Prodvizheniye skateshop before its closing and second of all that your opening footage of the brutalist buildings and colourfull apartment complex is maybe a 5 10 min walk from my house. Really well produced please to watch.
this video was absolutely stunning, congratulations guys!

Middle aged people these days criticize young people on wearing brands like supreme and reselling them for high prices but actually we just do the same thing as they did back then (im talking about post-communistic countries), the only difference is that in capitalistic regime its harder to find something that not everyone has.

frank Fellow i dont hate capitalism, it may sounded like it but actually im happy that we live in calitalist world, Im just saying that nowadays that everyone can have anything its harder to find clothes that not everyone has and therefore supreme and other limited brands are wanted

Its simple, where there is a demand theres always going to be those who rise up to try to fill that demand. You look at the Russia, the nearest Supreme store is in France. In Korea the nearest one is in the next country over Japan. I think they should open up a supreme store in Seoul (theres a large streetwear and skate culture appearing) and about 2 more in mainland Europe. Germany and Russia are (I think) prime locations. Either this or they should start opening more consignment stores like DSM in these countries.

kind of ironic that those counterfeit adidas pants were probably made better than the real thing, being sewn by hand instead of made on machines.
A product can be counterfeit and still be of a high quality. The world population is growing and someone has to satisfy the need of the people. If the Originals put prices on its products that 80% of the world population can't afford to pay, then i will fully support counterfeit like this which is absolutely doing no harm but building the middle class economy.

There's sooooo many knockoffs in Russia. I went to see my family there this summer and there are these kiosks on streets that sell toys and things for children, and let me tell you how many fakes I saw (frozen, legos, miraculous, transformers, etc). But I just gotta say, even if there are a lot of clothing counterfits russians (especially young women in st-petersburg) dress soooooo well!! sooooo good like its a fashion show or something.
