G Wagen door locks should be an optional Apple text tone. And that V8 wouldn’t make for a bad ringtone either.

Wow, 5 second in the intro, you can tell from the height of the pov that this thing is basically a baby Unimog. I really like the G wagen, especially in the 2000's period we're they felt old and still updated here and there, but man, clunk that door and it felt so solid. I miss my 190e and that star on the hood

Oh man, kinda sad to see you got back from California so quick, was hoping to see a few more POV canyon road drives. Hope you do make good on that idea to move there during the winters 👀

I really want one of these G300d 4X4 squared! Yeah...I said G300d not a G550. Most every other country gets that option. That would be my ideal choice of powertrains!

Same here. This is a purpose built of road vehicle. You don’t need 400+ horsepower from a v8 to go off road, but the diesel torque from the 300d or 400d engine would be great

V8 is otherwise nice, but the fuel consumption is so horrible compared to a diesel that can't go far off road with a V8, unless a fuel truck is following behind. That's why in real military or work use they are practically always diesel.

@@Paco1337 I have driven mine in just about any terrain you can imagine except narrow rock crawlin canyons. My has a stage 3 tune from Weistec and it is the most competent off road vehicle I have ever owned or driven. IT'll go over the curb you can hook a chain to it and drag the entire road with you.

Worth it for those doors alone. Thankfully you can convert a regular G-class to portal axles if you actually needed the extended off-road capability over a regular G (not very likely).

I saw one of these the other day in Bellevue, WA and it was an insane thing to see on the road. Can't imagine seeing a 6x6

Not sure abot US Dealers and workshops, but in europe i doubt the workshop would have that much of a problem working on the portals. Here often times Mercedes utility vehicles like trucks commercial vans, busses and Unimogs are also sold and serviced at the same place. And if i remember correct, the portals are from the Unimog... So for the portals they can just take the truck mechanic do the work.

You need to go back, have them put it on tires that match the suspension and go off roading kinda like you did with the unimog :P (Also bring a Lambo LM002 for the engine sound when doing that polar opposite)

..And you won't feel like you could brake or maneuver on the highway in an emergency. The tacoma steering doesn't easily return on center and is bad in general, does it have that axle?

It isn't that bad, i think a modern day corvette even is wider than the 6x6. I have seen 2 of the 6x6 on austrian roads a few years back, and the roads i came across them aren't as wide as typical US roads. (The G factory is 20 minutes from where i live, and they were most likely factory test driving them)

@@ElliWoelfin Ah, sorry i misunderstood that. (Lengthwise the 6x6 are around the length of a the long wheelbase versions of a Sprinter or VW Crafter or Fiat Ducato i think. Less long than a G Landaulet as it looks to me.)

I fail to see how that could be worth anywhere near what they charge for them.

we are literally flooded with these things in Bratislava Slovakia. Here are too many G wagons as well as 4x4 Squared

A normall G wagon has problems fitting in an underground parking lot as most of them have a limit of 2m (at least in europe). If someone daily drives a g wagon they know parking lot height limits by heart.

All of the Mercedes models in Europe are branded 400s or 500s, everything in the US is a 450 or 550 (i.e. GLS550/GLS500, E550/E500). Not sure why!

At it's place of origin, the G isn't called/considered a SUV. The G was around before this term came to use here. The type of vehicle a G is considered to be is a Geländewagen. (translatable as "Offroader"). Same goes for a Wrangler, old Defender, or a Jimny. The "Softroaders" are what we call SUVs.

These things are the stupidest, most outlandish, incredibly unnecessary ways to spend 250k on planet earth. There is literally no reason to have one unless you're taking it off-road, but I guess people feel like they ought to anyways 😂
