The writing and performances in this show were wonderful. So SO true to life and the amount of people who have high powered jobs but seemingly have no clue what they’re doing 😂

This might be a bit picky, but I don't think "central heating duct" is an actual thing - certainly not as a vertical thing. This sounds like a chimney.

They're riffing on multiple jokes, here- the minaret gag is one part of the overall joke, and is to do with the idea of a bunch of British people who've probably never spoken to anyone from different faith backgrounds designing a multi-faith building, and trying not to offend anyone one religion while simultaneously proceeding to think up the absurd idea of a retractable minaret. The video should really be called "The Committee Process:" because that is essentially what the whole sketch is about.

@@peterclarke7240 Also, there’s the front page of the _Daily Mail_ to worry about. _”YOUR TAXES SQUANDERED ON WOKE PC MINARET”._ The Gammonati would be positively frothing at the mouth. 🙄 Dressing it up as a regulatory compliance central heating duct just with a bit of cladding round it, means they’re less likely to be quizzed on any religious purpose.

I havent seen this show since bakc when it came out, but IIRC the Algerians wanted a wall in the multifaith room to face Mecca, but then when they tried to change the building to grant this the French complained that they were giving one religion prefetential treatment. So the hidden minaret was a way to make a concession to the Algerians, but also avoid accusatioosn of preferential treatment for islam.

Because they were trying to not show favouritism to any faith, whilst also giving every faith what they were individually demanding.

I sense perhaps you’re not British?! It’s very _British_ humour… Paralysed at the thought of offending anyone, or being accused of anything - either by the Far Right, or the Left. 🥴

@@221b-Maker-Street No I am not British. Thank you for the explanation. I can see the humor in the meeting room discussion, but the pantry conversation with Sally was totally lost on me. If I had watched just that scene, I would've thought it was a serious drama, expect Sally to cry anytime.

@@selvamthiagarajan8152 I don’t know why they left that scene on the end of this clip to be honest. The problem with watching short snippets like this is that you lose the underlying subplots that add humour. In the case of Kay and Fiona it’s two women of let’s say ‘different ages’ who both have essentially the same job but under different guises. With Ian and Sally it’s that she is totally in love with him but he doesn’t realise it, or realise underneath that it is reciprocated. Absolutely fantastic acting by both.
