Could Our Idea of Reality Be Totally Upside Down?

Could our idea of reality be completely upside down? Could it be that the entire universe is made of infinite consciousness, not matter? And could our mistaken view of the nature of reality be the reason for all the suffering and despair in the world?
A man asks how something can be made of consciousness when it is not conscious. How are objects also made of consciousness, like a table or mountain? In other words, how do we know that consciousness is all that exists? He would like to have a direct experience of the understanding that everything is made of consciousness, or that everything is one or the same reality.
Rupert explains that all materialists, even long-term meditators and teachers, believe that on one side of creation there is matter and on the other side consciousness. They feel that there is a line drawn down the centre of reality where all animals and people have consciousness but all things do not have consciousness, in other words, they are made of matter.
But does matter exist? Scientists have been looking for it for thousands of years and still haven't found it. Conversely, is there evidence that the ultimate reality of everything, including inanimate objects, is consciousness?
Through various examples, Rupert guides the man to see that there is no evidence for anything other than consciousness. Therefore, the belief that consciousness is derived from matter is madness, since matter is an abstracted idea from consciousness itself.

Excellent explanation of a difficult to grasp concept. I would like to add that part of the reason we usually don't think that the "real" world is a product of consciousness is because we rely heavily on our physical senses.

In the 80's there was a 16 year old girl, Susan, that she could talk to matter and animals and all kinds of beings. She could talk to a chair, or a table even with a toilet paper. The first time I listen to her was really strange for me, but I believe what she was saying because she said that everything is Consciousness. A lot a people laughed at her. She even took down some videos of her talking to things. Then as she grew up she stop doing these videos. Now she makes videos but they are only about coaching stuff.

Can a thought view you, Question you, examine you. When I was a kid I was active sleepwalking dreamer, The majority of that experience was me finding myself along for the ride experiencing things that I was not consciously thinking of or making up but rather viewing and experiencing things that I would’ve never thought up. Psychologist said the only you can control your dreams, So I went with that and attempted to eliminate the experience as a kid mind you. While I was somewhat successful I was not entirely successful and controlling what happened when I close my eyes and fell sleep. Later I began to consider it a form of possession. My grandfather was dreaming that a bear was after him while sleeping, He proceeded to try and escape and broke his neck. He survived, question is was the bear hey figment of his imagination or an intruder. Your work fascinates me when it’s opening my eye a little. I had considered myself and still do a Christian, but the deeper I dig the more I find the discrepancies and the lies of those that came before. Just wanted to say thank you for offering a little peace of mind that I could search out myself with a little instruction. Sometimes that’s all you want

Of course it is upside down! I wake up and build up the slide from the back side with calculus, here I am at the top and I slide down. The insight or awakening is the shape of that slide revealed by the movement, the shape is true. I wake up again from seeing the difference and comparing, and then the calculus to justify this again begins. Work then play. Eros like a buffer, those little steps up the slope leaving a space. On universal scale too, with perhaps the Planck curve the buffer between the quantum calculus and our moving realization. Two paces of moving to a higher entropy state, but the movement so efficient it all arrives at almost the same moment. Consciousness everywhere! edit: Forgot to say thank you, I must be 'slipping' .

There are a lot of various definitions to the term "awakening" when applied in a spiritual connotation. Yet, I feel that Rupert here offers us what should stand as the primary understanding of the term. As this understanding then leads directly to accurate interpretations of "Self Realization", and further onward to "Enlightenment". Not that intellectual clarity can substitute for the experience of true Knowledge, yet it can at least offer us a signboard pointing us in the right direction rather than another random detour.

I’m still not quite there. Why should i imagine a thought and a table are made out of the same thing? I get it thoughts are in consciousness, made of consciousness but not themselves conscious, ok. But thoughts and tables have nothing in common aside from not being conscious. Tables aren’t made of concepts, I can’t set my drink on a concept. And I can’t drink an idea. Thoughts and matter are fundamentally different yet he seems to be arguing they’re more alike that different.

My belief is that the table does have consciousness of a particular kind (so I agree with this). (I wrote this comment before listening to the entire video. HAHA!) This exists in its molecules ... it's vibrational existence. This results in a cooperation that holds it together in the shape it assumes. This vibrational quality of consciousness is aware of its existence but nothing more. And this is only the case because it is energetic ... or "excited" ... vibration. This is not separate from us but more of a cooperative action (that's difficult to explain ).

Let's imagine the table is consciousness. Then current physics and physical law as the relations between things and energy is still applicable. So whether you call a quark conciousness or material: the science is the same. Materialistic science is still true It's just the question if you want to be able to understand and explain the human inner experience as observer with the structure we are made of, or not. And we are not sure even if we can, so until that is settled this position can still be held. Psychologically it is still always an interesting position, and can be helpful for some. However the fact I can operate surgery on your brain and influence your experience, doesn't look good for this position

I fully agree with Rupert here but I would have liked to see him directly address an obvious counter argument that would have arisen as he was discussing whether or not 'the table' is conscious. Okay, the table appears in consciousness, is made of consciousness but is not 'itself' conscious. Now, turn to one of the people in attendance and ask the same question. How do we get around the conventional view that 'this person' is him/herself conscious? I think a possible approach is to distinguish between the appearance of 'a being' and the *experience* of being--but I would have loved to hear how Rupert would respond.

Not conscious means not self conscious. Not being knowingly conscious. That is the case of most humans.

Listened to this a few times. Starting to understand it. So the matter around us, we /you are saying that this is the wrong way to see reality? Our money, our new car, the things around us, the totality of all the things around us? They are the wrong way to see reality? I agree with you mostly. (What about our physical body: it that is just consciousness?) Will continue to listen🙏🤔😄.

Yes, your body is consciousness. It has got to be consciousness because consciousness is all there is. As in any dream.

Paul Selig's books teach this concept. A shared field created by consciousness.

These words are like a Big slap in "my"face, beacause they make fall away all "my" beliefs about the nature of this experience called LIFE. This is a dream, Who is the dreamer?? I don't know, i can't know, i don't care.... What i know is that after the beliefs fall , what remains is LOVE This is my nature , when i'm divested of seriousness.

I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but If you really listen to this man he makes perfect sense, but like me there are to many blunt knives in the planet, and that’s why this simple thing will never be resolved.

12 minutes of a wisdom that could change the entire course of history. It seems to me that natural selection can not explain the existence of dreams in humans they don’t have any survival advantage other than give a hint to humanity that point to the direction of reality and hence the only way to get permanent peace and happiness in the world.

There is no dead matter...everything is consciousness. That consciousness might be different and we don't understand that consciousness for example rocks, plants... There is a difference with selfconsciousness...

I have experienced a complete other “ totally real “ world that seemed as real as this world that i experienced within my own conciseness . So I feel I have proven this to be completely true …
