I think the problem is that there would have been a lot of anti-droid tech left over from the Clone Wars, so countermeasures for droids could have been easily found and adopted by the rebels. Also, the empire came out as the victor over the CIS, so to start using droids openly not long after that probably would have turned into a PR nightmare for the Empire. Great video though! Definitely looking forward to seeing what they do next with the Dark Troopers

I think the Empire's iron boot would more or less make that negative PR go away by force. I mean, they did destroy a certain planet that was considered peaceful and all that by the galaxy, didn't have a problem destroying it. As for anti-droid weapons, that all depends on if the Rebels can get a steady and reliable supply of those.

@@welkingunther5417 That is fair, but supressing negative PR would fan the flame of rebellion, which would also hurt the Empire. I would say old military equipment would have been relatively easy to come by, we see that in real life as well as The Mandalorian, especially for stuff from a galaxy spanning war, and once they have some of it they can start to make it themselves

@@SomethingThatRhymes True, though the Empire's way of thinking may just not care about that as a whole. Well, at least not in the moment, then they'll probably care once it's too late. That's a fair point, I feel a little bit dumb for not thinking about that.

Had the Dark Trooper Program been more funded during the Imperial peak, they very well could have been used as special assault units with weapons swapped out as mission demands, don't need a whole lot of them but certainly platoon sized formations given the quality

Yeah I mean realistically in a universe like star wars, use of droid soldiers would've overtaken organic soldiers a long long time ago. It just makes way more sense, especially when you need the numbers to subjugate an entire galaxy while keeping costs low and no fear of casualties. Droid factory goes brrrrrrrr.

That would be true, but there are many indications in the lore that droid revolts have happened in the past, which is why restraining bolts, regular memory wipes, and anti-droid sentiments exist.

For as long as the empire followed the tarkin doctrine the empire would suffer because they focused to much on power instead of adaptability. They need to follow someone like thrawn.

RIP Rebels if this happened.

Great video! Was so happy to see the Dark Troopers make a comeback, wish we’d seen more of the death troopers in this season though.

Nightmare scenario: This occurs in Legends, and the Dark Troopers are coopted by IG-88's Droid Rebellion (and, without a Death Star II, the supremely lucky preemption of the uprising wouldn't have happened).

I'd say less Star Destroyers and more ships that would be made to counter the main advantage of the Rebels: Starfighters. Obviously the TIE Defender is amazing and would work well, it would at least be better to maybe make cheaper ships that could assist with that. Definitely still make ISDs, but not rely on them a whole lot.

An Imperial-II class star destroyer costs 150,000,000 credits. Think of all the Arquitens class command cruisers they could build for 5,000,000 credits each

@@masamune1177 Yeah, having more of those would be nice, though personally I'd make some Lancers instead, which are very good at taking down fighters. I don't know their cost, but I know they're cheap. Like I said though, would be good to still make some ISDs, though not as a big production priority, since the firepower ISDs have would definitely be needed against, say, MC-80s and other Mon Cala ships.

@@lerneanlion Alright, I suppose I can agree with that. Losing the first Death Star would send the Empire a clear message that their strategy needed to change.

The Dark Troopers missed out on two things. Phrik armoring, and the Assault Cannon. Phase III Dark Troopers are essentially Hulkbuster armors, and they would have really wrecked Rebel forces if they were mass produced. There was a very good reason the Rebels invested a lot in shutting down the Project in Legends.

I think this would make old Clone-Wars Era tech even more vital for the Rebellion as republic weapons were designed to be anti-droid, which means it may stand a chance against the dark troopers.

i feel like a thing like a droid popper or even a couple detonators wouldve shredded those clankers

With Thrawn's TIE-Defenders and the Dark Troopers, the Empire might won the war at hebst or prolonged it by the least. Whatever the case, the rebels will definitely have the harder time cracking the Empire down. Also, what if the First Order used the Dark Troopers and the TIE-Defenders for their invasion of the galaxy instead of building the Starkiller Base?

What about Ion-weopons or elektromagnetic based weapons? Also it is a military suicide if you have weapons/soldiers, you can't defeat yourself. If you have a rogue commander, your are done for.

I think like the Tie Defender, they were just too costly to mass produce and only a select few were made and sold to Moffs and other high ranking officers with the means to buy them. Sure it would have change things, but under Tarkin's rule, it wasn't an option. The Death Star being the literal golden goose mean't all other projects were expendable, resulting in the Empire's grip and eventual collapse as time went on. It's also likely only a few were made and shipped before the original source of them was destroyed by Katarn in Canon.

They could've at least Batch Produced them instead: limited production = a few thousand at best.

Lightsabers would have been a great asset. While their armor makes them impervious to most blasters and they can simply crush the skulls of enemies within arms reach, lightsabers would aid their breaching abilities as we see in the Mandolorian that they simply try to brute force the door since they do not have explosives, plasma torches, or any breaching tools and this ultimately costed Moff Gideon everything since the Dark Troopers were not able to overwhelm Din and his crew in time before Luke showed up.

As cool as they were in Canon, they were definitely stronger in Legends.

This a great rethink Mr. Lore Guy, I think the Dark Troopers would be more successful if the Galactic Empire had invested more money on these droids include advanced weaponry instead of a giant superweapon. I have an idea for your rethink, What if The Galactic Empire have mechas similar to Gundam Suits from Mobile Gundam Suits, do think armed machine piloted by an Imperial pilot could give the Empire a big win over Rebels? if they decide to use mechs to overwhelm the Rebel Alliance, would that lead to the Rebel Alliance under Mon Monthma invest money on creating rebel mecha suits? Anyway, this a great rethink my friend, keep up the good work!!

If the price point didn't doom the dark trooper program, the paranoia of palpatine would have. Dude would have watched a pair of these things punch through a blast door, and insist that they have some kind of backdoor to shut them down or gain control of them. That's all you need for some plucky farmboy and his R2 unit to swoop in and turn your fancy and expensive units against one another and win the day.

Not to mention that the populace hated droids due to the Clone Wars, so this would have decreased the Empire's favor among the masses and swiften its demise if it was public.

I think a lot of battles after the Battle of Yavin would have played very different with even more advanced Dark Troopers. The Empire could have focused their naval forces in Hoth to blockade the planet while Dark Troopers could have entered the shield by just slowing down enough via a vertical angel. Just fly in, slow down with their boosters enough to pass the shield, and once in go straight for the generator. Then the fleet could have bombarded the base and demand Luke Skywalker to surrender in order to let everyone else escape. Luke, being the concern for his friends kind of guy that he is, would surrender, and the fleet can just wipe the rest of the base with their personnel in it. This would make Luke fall more for the dark side, and not having Yoda's teachings at this time would have sure helped the Emperor. My point is, the Rebels would have been done if a platoon of these Dark Troopers were available to Death Squadron alone. Imagine a much wider availability.

If they'd have mass produced the TIE Defender, Interdictor Cruiser and the Dark Troopers, there's no doubt the Empire would have been victorious as it would have stripped away the two main advantages the Rebellion had in the starfighter corps and their flexibility in hit and hype.

Mass Production isn't really a reliable when it comes to those choices as they are way too expensive for long term benefit returns, unless the empire never builds the death stars in the first place and never wastes money on pointless large Star Destroyers. Batch Production would be a more obvious choice instead = limited numbers, but far more capable and specialized for important areas to be deployed in. If the empire focused more on a far more flexible yet smaller ship sized navy in Quality over Quantity, like with Thrawn's strategy and was far more caring of its citizen body and galaxy as a whole in infrastructure to support the empire throughout = they could've won the war and lasted much longer in support to back it all up. But Sith stupidity in mentality and imperial greed in egotistic ambitions got the better of them.

@@petermills3814 this doctrine would obviously preclude cancelling the Death Stars and Superweapon programs. The funding from those credit pits alone would have financed all three of these doctrines without sacrificing the Imperial Star Destroyer as the mainstay of the fleet as it was versatile. It was a mobile siege platform, a garrison, a deterrent and effective at being both a carrier and battleship. The only thing lacking for the Empire was the flexibility to accompany the ISD and occasional Executor. The Dark Troopers, TIE Avengers, Defenders and Phantoms with the Interdictors would have provided that flexibility. I'd also take the Defender over the Phantom as it is better armed, shielded and effective in multiple roles than the Phantom as well as not requiring as much energy consumption. The problem with the Empire's chain of command was ego, but more so rivalry. Each wanted to see the other fail to take their place.

I mean they did not last long against Luke and they look expensive to make. Great video

@@darthtrooper9897 However, there were plenty of Rebel troops around and they would probably do some work, plus once the space battle is won, reinforcements could arrive, and if the Rebel troops for the initial battle don't have anti-droid weapons, they could be brought down with the reinforcements.

Luke’s a Jedi with a weapon that can cut through damn near anything. These guys can take the hit and dish them out too. They definitely would’ve been a great boon to the empire.

@@darthtrooper9897 Might as well use the Ewoks and a fair number of Rebel troops already on the ground serve as a distraction then, at least long enough for the shield bunker to get taken down.

The biggest problem they would have is Ion Cannon/Turrets along side of sabers. A severe weakness that would human soldiers to survive a close hit, while taking out many droids.

if gideon is under controll of thrawn....than isnt the dark trooper program his way of warfare? and the abandoning of ISD's makes thrawn's influence even greater cause things are SO PRIZED...but thrawn doesnt even time for big clump battle ships....he doesnt even like those types of ships...meaning all of this is thrawn's big plan..who knows gideon's remnant might be a sub group of thrawn's new canon empire of the hand if its canon...that would be epic

Whose to say the Dark Troopers would be immune to droid poppers and other anti-droid measures? And even if they were, what's stopping a great hacker from hijacking these things? We saw in the Clone Wars and in Rebels that droids can be reprogrammed or have their memories wiped or have their senses shut down, something that's considerably harder for organic beings.

What if Thrawn and Grevious joined the Rebel Alliance ?Do a video that both joined the Rebel Alliance.

Would a more powerful Ion cannon work on these things?

The problem with droids in general is they are vulnerable to such weapons as droid poppers or ion cannons. They also have a computerized brain which could be hacked by a slicer or affected by a computer virus.

Along with that, droids are typically not as creative thinking as such compared to organics, so that would also be a disadvantage.

What the empire should have done is develop a tracking device type droid and when ever the rebels attack somewhere these droids latch on to and track these ship through hyperspace

Well I mean in the EU the empire did have phase 1,2 and 3 dark trooper as well as a whole host of other variations and versions of those phases.

I was bummed the Dark Troopers ended up being droids in the Mando show.

for me i would have a base model but make then very modular as one can be fitted for anti infantry or one with heavy ordinance for light and heavy vehicles, heck one could be a equiped with flame throwers!

Star Wars Rethink: If the Galactic Empire had and used their own version of the Spartan II Program before and during the Galactic Civil War? Also, Star Wars Rethink: The Jedi join the Empire (it would never happen, but then it's not the most outrageous rethink scenario either). Also, Star Wars Rethink: If Order 66 got activated too early (like a year into the Clone Wars instead of the end) due to the brain control chip malfunctioning. (In other words, if what happened to Tup in the Clone Wars happened to all the clones, and it happened a year into the war, when it was at its worst, roughly all at once).

That's ALMOST a thing already, Imperial DeathTroops in canon received classified surgical enhancements in addition to enhanced training. To what extent is unknown, but its the closest star wars has to a Spartan super soldiers.

An imperial dark trooper is basically a low grade spartan from halo. Only the rebels don’t have the covies tech advantage to even the odds

They could have the Dark Troopers were some of the Empire's most elite troops if they were deployed against the Rebel Alliance in the rebels' Mid Rim Offensive they could have crushed the rebels during their retreat making it easy for the Empire to capture the Rebel High Command on Hoth but even if the captured Rebel High Command they still wouldn't win the war because since they were Battle droids and the Clone Wars still in recent memory the Empire would lose support

Okay this annoys me so I need to explain the dark troopers - These aren’t the official phase 3 Dark Troopers! The proper Phase 3 Dark Troopers were large Exo-suits of colossal power. The Dark Troopers in the Mandalorian were more akin to Phase 1 of the Dark Trooper program but Moth Gideon has no doubt tried to recreate the program but instead of recreating the true phases of the Dark Trooper program, he merely expanded on the Phase 1 variant, making it more effective, although they are no where near as effective as the proper Dark Trooper program.

Everything you just described, while accurate, is now relegated to Legends. The Phase 3 in Canon is what we saw in the Mandalorian.

Sure used Battle Droids that pretty much used against the Galaxy during the Clone Wars, and that the Galactic Empire was formed to stop the usage of Battle Droids. Public opinion will sway against the Empire because of their new Dark Troopers, even if they are a tenth of imperial military that would worry many both within the imperial military and outside of it. The Empire was already struggling to get popular support from the Galaxy and this will probably break the camel back and the Galaxy will Rebel early on in Palpatine reign.

Yea true the Clone Wars were still in the memory of the galaxy especially in the Outer Rim were the CIS mostly operated and the Empire using Battle droids the Empire would lose loads of support

True. Though it would risk a major PR nightmare for the Empire since the Galaxy at large mainly had enough of droid soldiers following the Clone Wars. So to suddenly start using Droids again, after defeating an entire army of them, would likely look very shady & hypocritical to wide-eyed Imperial citizens.

What if the Dark Troopers were made out of Beskar metal as their whole body as armour? What if the Jedi used Beskar metal as full body covered armour during the clone wars? What if the Mandolorians sided with the Republic during the clone wars? What if Beskar metal was abundant throughout the whole Star Wars galaxy?
