    For anyone buying one of these: Make sure you know what magnification factor is right for you! I got a 1000x model and the picture you get from that is crazy magnified. You can find and read 10µm tall writings on CCD-sensors, but since you have no way to zoom out, the writing on a 0402 resistor will show up as a cloud of dots :-) Anyway - thank you China, for making 1000x digital microscopes für $16,-!

    @carabela125 You can do that in the software actually. It's a simple cross, or a circular crosshair with lots of little gradations. No annotated distances though unless you measure stuff manually.

  • @Afrotechmods
    @Afrotechmods12 жыл бұрын

    @tntodorov Unfortunately you can't just pick a distance and magnification then adjust the focus as you can with regular microscopes. There are fixed distances and magnifications where things are in focus. Some long distance examples are 5cm / 15x, 10cm / 10x, 15cm / 9x. When you factor in shallow depth of field as well I don't think I would use it for real time soldering.

    I've got the same scope and highly recommend it. I do some hand soldering of very small analog to i2c chips and use this cope on a stand mounted above the work. The bundled software leaves a bit to be desired due to the isues mentioned (aspect ratio, etc..). I've had good luck using this with 'Yawcam' - it's a free webcam utility package and is quite handy (full screen with proper aspect, web server, etc..)

    A suggestion about the stand: If you are having trouble with your surface, all you need is a sheet of anything it will stick to and your good to go. You could just have enough base to hold it up, or you could build a tray and clamps and whatever else you may need.

    An excellent review. I have, only today, become interested in microscopes, etc, after doing some macro photography with my DSLR. I am intrigued as to what insects would look like at this kind of magnification. I see on EBay, that there are some microscopes that go up to 1000x. That must be brilliant. Thanks for a great video. Nice review, as usual. Thanks. So, is this a COSview review, or a MIview review? The box at t=5:00 reads the latter, your video title names the former. Also, setting aside cost considerations, are you able to make any comparison between this microscope and say, any of the Celestron microscopes?

    How is the color fidelity? I am severely colorblind and usually identify color codes on wires, resistors, ect. by snapping a shot with my phone and using the color picker tool in Paint Shop Pro. Unfortunately, it's hard to get enough area to sample and the flash is useless at close distances (too bright and too blue).

  • @cuilidh
    @cuilidh12 жыл бұрын

    Have you attempted to use the microscope for inspecting decapped ICs and other components? It looks like it might be enough magnification, and clear enough to do it, but its hard to say without having seen it tried. Most optical scopes do 100x-500x (or even more), but I don't know where the edge of the usability is.

    Technically speaking you could re-purpose a software to redirect your files, it might not be very efficient but if you REALLY need to save your files elsewhere you can use a software like febooti Automation Workshop to trigger whenever files are saved and move them somewhere else, or you could modify the software for that purpose, whichever seems easier! Thank you for the tutorials!

    I got a cheap knockoff version of this microscope, and they really are the shiznit! Same experiences that he had, but one extra bonus, if you turn the mag/focus on mine all the way opposite of 200X, it becomes a passable infinity focus webcam. Only drawback to mine is the fact you have just 2 LED light levels, and off. I would recommend these kind of microscopes for everyone!

    I like to restore watches as a hobby and find that I can do better work with two hands. vs having one hand hold a lope and one a tool. I am interested in a pen microscope for that purpose. how ever to use it effectively. it would have to be live video of what I am doing. I would guess by the low FPM rate this would not do the trick?

    $60? I know this video is 3 years old, but I was able to get one of these microscopes for $16 delivered off eBay about 6 months ago. I wish more things were like electronics in that they are the ONLY things that gets cheaper as it gets better.

    I got a cheaper one that seems to be the exact same electronics. It works like a USB webcam so I just use the system default Camera app on later versions of Windows (8, 8.1, 10) I recently had a Surface RT and Surface 2 given to me. Both are ARM instead of x86-64 so they don’t run standard Windows applications even though they have Windows 8.1. This makes them almost useless, since Microsoft has abandoned them and the Windows Store isn’t exactly brimming with ARM-compatible Windows apps. Luckily, Microsoft includes RT-compatible Windows drivers for many basic devices, including webcams. I figured that it would be good to dedicate one of these as a display for my USB microscope. Unfortunately, it wasn’t exactly Plug’n’Play, since the system prompts for drivers. I gave up at first until I googled and saw some other being marketed for Windows RT. Turns out, you have to know what category Microsoft keeps the standard USB webcam drivers in then browse to those and force the system to accept them. The OS balls but I did it on both RT tablets and it does work. These are technically “RT” versions of Windows 8.1 so they do have the system “Camera” app. The button that normally switches between front and rear camera now just adds a third camera into the mix. You can still change the aspect in the camera settings but it doesn’t remember it for long (annoying!). Of course, I don’t get any of the measurement features of the other software but it does work. Just thought I’d throw this out there for anyone else with an old nearly-useless Windows RT machine/device. I doubt I’ll be so lucky with a USB oscilloscope though. :)

    My 10X Jewelers Loupe has generally been adequate for finding bad solder connections and identifying parts. Nevertheless I dislike like having to squint my eyes for extended periods while looking at circuit boards. In spite of it's potential usefulness this type of microscope does not look like an ideal way to view large areas. Thanks for all the informative videos.

    you can get some bare dice by carefully (hehe) burning the plastic package of a chip then when it turns white and stops smoking, you can carefully break it in half, and the die will pop right out, ready to view. Some experimentation with heat will get some decent dice. also, a big power resistor (hollow) is excellent since heat control is very good (just control current through it).

    With Linux just use Cheese - it works with most webcams out of the box, and uses the full resolution of the camera inside. Only drawback is the button does not work at all, you need to press the space on the keyboard. Can take single shot, multi shot or video.
