Costco's Hamilton Beach 11cu ft Freezer quick comparison review
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I just wanted to share my comparison review to a smaller chest freezer that's only 7cu ft but holds much more in content than the 11cu ft mainly because of the nature of the design on this upright model

There's a tradeoff - with the shelves you don't lose a lot of cold air when you open it up. The drawers sit on cooling tubes/shelf which makes the temperature much more even throughout the freezer. That said the cooler shelves and the drawers both take up quite a bit of volume which is why the chest freezer is bigger. You can take the drawers out and use the cooler racks as shelves to get more capacity. I would recommend putting a rubber mat or a piece of plexiglass over the shelves to protect the tubes and provide a completely even surface. I'm going to buy one soon they are $299 at my nearest Costco and my 7.3 cu ft freezer is about half empty as it is; but getting to things and knowing what's in them is a huge hassle and ends up being a waste. Things don't get used. Sometimes I buy something and find out I already have it. It's a hassle to pull everything out just to see what I've got. I think I will probably keep half or so of the drawers for easier organization and cooling efficiency and use the shelves for large bulky items.
Do you need to store that much frozen food/meats? Everytime my freezer gets full I just make an exercise of not buying anything except fresh produce until the freezer is empty again. Many people just shove things in their freezer, forget about it and a few years later throw them out.
It’s more for food prep and organization… not for hoarding tons of large bulky bags and major meat supply. One person or a couple could use it…not for and huge family that eat a lot.

The bottom line is the comparison on capacity not that the freezer is bad.
the drawers come out and you can use just the shelves
I wish I would have watched your video three days ago. I just bought this freezer to replace my 4.7cuft chest freezer. My chest freezer was full and the contents just fit in this Hamilton Beach one. I'm also returning it.
I have chest freezers it literally squashes all your food like the food on the bottom and the middle is literally being squashed and if you care about your food quality then don't get a chest freezer I have a 20 cu upright freezer and they are the best think about how cows live. The more space your food has the better the quality of the food as it's not squashed and the has room. And it's way way easier to know what food you have instead of just eating the stuff on top. I had a 16 cu chest freezer and basically I had to throw all the stuff on the bottom away since I didn't even touch it for over a year and the food got wrecked because of just normal freezer burn of being frozen for too long. Upright freezer is the best. Get an upright around 20 cu range and you will love it. And most have auto defrost which means you don't have to turn off the thing ever few months to clean the ice off etc. And it uses way way less space because it's vertical
Hello, thank you for this interesting video, that will help me to buy the best one, keep sharing, new follower
Anyone have a part number for that handle? Got one but the handle was missing (Costco donated to my thrift store)
Thank you for sharing! I was wondering how this was in use and you showed me. I won’t be getting this. To bad it’s not just normal shelves.

You could just take one of the shelves out!
Helpful
Would this fit a small turkey?? Like 12-15lbs?? What about a whole chicken? I can't tell how deep the drawers are.

It should but not huge one
Seems to me that if you remove every other draw in the upright, and stack foods higher, with better organization, you would have fit everything OK..
Can this be placed in a garage in cold weather,

There's no problem with using them in garages
You can easily fit about 7 cu ft of things in the drawer at least. All this shows was that poor packing is a bigger issue with an upright.

That's the point. Items in freezers are not necessarily packaged in neat small packages. Even if you do so, you're not getting 11cuft out of this one in storage due to the shelves and drawers that consume a few cuft.

Useable space is about 5.2 cuft.

It was in limited supplies in Oregon
Try it with out all the drawers in the Hamilton Beech

It would fit a bit more.
Break your meat down into freezer storage bags and you will be able to fit a lot more.

I wish it was that simple, it isn't. Volume-wise it didn't fit. There's a big difference between stacking and storage in drawers. Volumn is lost as a result of the drawer use.

I saw it today at Costco in Eugene, Oregon for $350. I thought it would work for what I would keep in it, but wondered if you can take out drawers and use that way and can you even remove a shelf to store a larger item?

@@danab3861 I modified another stand up I have. You may be able to modify it. If it meets your needs as is then yes it's a very good value and better than chest freezers. In my example, going from a chest to this didn't work out.

Thanks so much! You saved me from wasting my time and $.
Something can't be right. How can half the contents of a 7cu freezer take up an entire 11cu freezer? I get that it has drawers which take up space, but even so I'd imagine the 11cu upright would be equivalent to a 7cu chest freezer in terms of usable volume.

Because of the size limitation of the drawers, you cannot place larger items such as a fish filet or bulk packs of food. If you're transferring from something like a chest freezer then you may run into problems. If starting from scratch it may work.

5.2 cuft usable volume.
This is a manual defrost freezer which is a deal breaker
Remove all the drawers and replace with acrylic shelves. Done.
Why would you buy that small
