Cosford Air Show 2023 | Airshow Dispatches S06E04

The RAF's last remaining airshow, Cosford this year attracted three national aerobatic teams for the first time in many years: the Red Arrows, Patrouille Suisse and Royal Jordanian Falcons.
As well as solo displays by other RAF assets such as the Chinook, F-35B Lightning, A400M Atlas and Typhoon FGR.4, the show also provided a final chance to say farewell to the Hercules, which was making its final airshow appearance before being retired from RAF service later this month.

For those who are new to Airshow Dispatches, thanks for joining us! Here are the links I refer to in commentary: - Cosford Air Show 2022 episode: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mWaAsKyrqr3HdKw.html - Midlands Air Festival 2023 episode: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZmerqbCbj9PXl6Q.html It was a real rush to get this out today so I hope I no mistakes slipped through the net in my haste to publish this - I fly off to Poland early tomorrow for Antidotum Airshow Leszno on Friday, then the Italian AF centenary on Sunday. Make sure you are subscribed to see those episodes, which should both be published by the end of this month.

In a world where dvd highlights packages are a thing of the past, this is exactly what im looking for! Excellent work Adam (although the adverts every few minutes would test the patience of a saint 🤦‍♂️) Look forward to the next episode 👍

Thank you, appreciate the feedback! It's certainly my aim to mirror that kind of format. I do wish these was a simple way to reduce ads by 50% without turning them off completely. When I have time, I delete some of them manually - but I finished this hours before hopping on a flight to Poland so no time on this occasion.

Despite cosford suffering so many cancellations at very short notice it looks like to have been a good show nonetheless glad that you enjoyed yourself fingers crossed for a easier and better show for the organisers next year

Great show as always Adam & team! Always look forward to the dispatches. Question - do you ever plan to do an episode from RIAT? I know Planes TV film the show, but would be great to have your insightful and informative narration over a condensed highlights package...

Funny you should say that, I am one of their cameramen! I have edited a programme as you describe from RIAT 2022 which will be released by PTV soon, and will do likewise this year. Only difference is it's Ben Dunnell narrating rather than me (but reading my script). If I wasn't working with PTV, I wouldn't be able to cover RIAT anyway, as they have exclusive rights. Thank you for watching as always!

@@ThisisFlight Wicked, look forward to those! I did assume that Planes TV held the rights, but as I have seen you on the PTV live streams before I was hoping for a dispatches-style video one day 😁 I am subscribed to PTV & attend RIAT every year, but still think your video style would be a great addition each year. Thanks again for the great vids 😊👍

Nice! Although I think it’s interesting how the organizers organize the show a lot differently than here in the U.S with the better/ faster displays towards the end of the show. For example, you would have the smaller demos in the beginning and then have the F-22 and the blue angels performing at the end. While with the U.K shows, you have the red arrows or typhoon demo perform at the beginning or middle and have some of the smaller ones perform at the end.

That's only due to practical reasons. In the US, and at this show, teams only display at one event per day, so they can fly at a time of the organiser's choosing. In the UK, a good display team might fly at 2 or even 3 airshows per day - it can't close the show at all of them. Timings are imposed on the organiser, and the organiser just has to roll with them. There are plenty of UK airshows that are closed by the Red Arrows - Duxford this coming weekend, to name just one. But the general preference of UK organisers is often to put the biggest acts on in the middle of the day if possible, so some people leave early, spreading out the departing traffic. Putting the big jet team on last just ensures traffic carnage at the end of the day - as it did here in Italy! In mainland Europe (especially France, but also at this event) flying displays are sometimes run in chronological order. So yes, that means the big noisy stuff comes last. That's an artistic choice so the overall show tells a story, rather than being a mashup of unrelated acts like in the rest of the world. Sadly it does mean the jet team comes last, and the result was people getting stuck in car parks until 11pm as they all tried to leave at the same time.

Another great production! Again I failed to meet you in Cosford. Was looking for you somewhere in the crowd center. 😂😂😂 I'll soon upload my Cosford footage as well, still a bit busy in work. Hope to see you in RIAT!

Thank you! I was just to the right of the Cosford Club, some way back from the front - oh well, another time! RIAT won't be the best opportunity though as we operate from a sterile zone far from the public areas.

Seeing your videos, I kinda somehow know where you were located. I was on the same side, but a bit closer to the Cosford Club and on the front of the flight line. Cheers! Looking forward to more dispatch episodes.

This was supposed to be the RAF's flag ship show. Bitterly disappointed especially in comparison to last year which was pretty poor though with only 5 months of planning they did the best with what they had. Took us over 3 hours to get in so missed the Herc/chinook and just caught the Typhoon. At £34 a ticket this does represent good all round value for a family day out but in comparison to RIAT at £40 there is only one winner. Maybe ive been spoilt over the years with Finningley then Waddington not to mention Leeming which was another smaller yet brilliant RAF show. I emplore anyone with an interest in military aviation espscially fast jets to go to RIAT. The RAF clearly have no interest in showcasing their own assets anymore which is sad.
