I love Röschmann. She has a lovely voice which she uses to great effect and she can act wonderfully as well. I don’t know why she isn’t a “larger” more recognized name in the opera community.

Maybe in America she isn't and that can be explained by the fact that she has never performed here extensively and outside of Mozart most of what she sings isn't repertoire that is done in larger American opera houses. However she is quite famous in Germany and was easily one of the more famous ensemble members of the Berlin Staatsoper in the early 2000s. And she was beloved in the lighter mozart roles she sang in Munich. She recorded pretty extensively during that time, a lot of Baroque music which again isn't really standard rep. Moreover, and i hate to say this because I was and still am a fan, but in terms of opera she hasn't really been singing very well consistently. At this point the countess and Donna Elvira are the only operatic roles she sings regularly at all and while I think she is basically effective in both, both audibly challenge her and take her to her limits. Her more recent excursions into heavier repertoire hasn't gone over well and the returns to early music (she sang Theodora and Dido in NYC semi-recently) have been pretty mixed. Outside of that she mostly sings concerts and recitals. But she is no longer in her prime however effective she might be as an overall package.
