Corsair Flash Voyager GTX - Near SSD Performance in your Pocket?

Ғылым және технология

My review of the Flash Voyager GTX from Corsair is here. They claim that its performance rivals that of an SSD... But is that actually the case?

    So an SSD is essentially a few flash drives in RAID 0. I've never thought of it that way

    Using this right now, works like a champ! Im using it as my windows 8.1 boot drive. Currently playing Watch dogs on this sucker with no problems! Drives shines on UASP...its faster than what they advertise. Adding folders with 2k+ files just dominates any USB 3.0 flash drive on the market and of course the lovely massive bluray.mkv files :)...well done Corsair.

    Three people already beat me to but they forgot to mention it's called a "Bootdisc", don't let the name fool you though you can boot from USB but it's still called a Bootdisk. Ubuntu actually has that feature natively.

    probably should have been more clear .. I've actually ran ubuntu (installed)off one of my usb drives.What i meant is: Boot my Windows os running on my pc with all my files and programs intact on any computer. With faster internet speeds and instant driver download .. it really isn't that far off. "new hardware found" .. "ready to use" Little drives like this if kept cool could easily accommodate those types of advanced features. Instant bios recognition and stuff like that. Wait times wouldn't even be an issue.

    This thing was canned a while ago when it was to launch as worlds 1st native USB Thumbdrive (no SSD trickery). They brought out a GS instead AFAIR but this now launched GTX is basically a SSD with a USB 3.0 connector, same as the previous ESATA/USB ThumbDrives. Even a exact copy of the Patriot SuperSonic Magnum housing.

    This is actually really great if you have a desktop and laptop workstation. You could work straight off it remotely (while quickly backing up locally on occasion). Plug it in when you get home and your done. Standard USB 3 drives fail pretty badly for this. In the next test can u try 10bit or 16bit dpx files in 1080 and 4k instead of small 1MB files?

    eh, it's $140 for the 128gb. It's cheaper and faster to get an SSD on a 3.0 dongle. That could cost nearly half as much (80-$90) instead of getting this flash drive, unless form factor is a super important concern.

    Jaydn W SSD is a lttle faster, but then this drive is only a little bit faster than a generic 3.0 drive, which is even smaller and cheaper. So, the GTX is second place for speed, second place for size, and last place for price.

    @johngorby7603

    10 жыл бұрын

    Marius Brunvær what you mean is a crucial mx100 512GB. Currently it's about $215. Its just a little slower then a samsung evo 840 and about 40 bucks cheaper. it basically maxes out the 6gbps sata3 and is technically more reliable in speeds then an 840 evo because they use small caches of super high speed nand combined with large caches of low quality slower nand to achieve such awesome speeds. In reality most people probably won't fill up that higher speed buffer without finishing the task/benchmark quickly.

    StefanMaikel did i say it was a bad or dumb question? If you read the graphs that they put together in the video..or just watch the video they did on USB 2 vs USB 3. then youll understand why my answer is a resounding fuck no

    Jaydn W TBH, i didn't really understand the graphs. thought it was just a regular USB-stick in a 2.0 and in a 3.0. Yes there is indeed a difference between that, i know. But since the corsair stick is more like a SSD i thought maybe it is different. And i still dont see why you would have to say: Fuck no. Thats jusy me i guess.

    StefanMaikel It will be faster than most USB 2.0 flash drives because the controller is much faster, but it is bottlenecked by the USB 2.0 port and is NOT as fast as it would be on USB 3.0

    When SSDs will get as small as thumbdrives, have the same storage as hard drives, and cost as much as a hard drive, I want them.
