1:02 Someone pointed out to me that only short Æ merged with A, while long Æ merged with a different phoneme.

, to be precise - hence the adoption of that spelling in later ME forms of Ǣ words.

When super popular things like this get stuff wrong it’s kind of painful They way they talk about it gives me the impression that they aren’t overly informed on the subject

I love how the correction for Ethel was correcting just an obvious joke and then that was it just corrected the joke with no sense of humor and then moved on

Nice, this needs more views. I definitely like the original video, but seeing this video made me see that some of the reasons letters were dropped were probably made up based on what sounded right. Glad to hear some of the actual reasons letters were dropped. Also, unrelated, but you have a nice voice.

Another example of why I wish more youtubers listed (or at least showed in the video) their sources, so someone could dig in further and decide for themselves whether or not they trust the video. Then 4 million viewers would not have to wait 2 years before the video they trusted was fact-checked.

@@subparlario4916 Actually, I just read a paper that argues that the manuscript I referenced a few days ago was really just using ð as an abbreviation for the word "that" rather than saying its name was "that". "However, just as the Cotton Titus manuscript lists as letters what we would call abbreviations, it seems equally likely that the Stowe 57 writer was doing the same and that ð was intended as an abbreviation for the word ðæt rather than the name of the letter." - The "Abecedarium" from British Museum Cotton MS. That's what happens when someone listens to a casual user's video about some topic the person is not related. Also, most of this 'content creators' tends to copy-paste information from wikipedia or random curiosity websites without making sure if the info is real or not, besides just reading it plain instead of writing what they understood from it.
