Hey brother, great video! I have a question…have just passed my Plab 2 exam and I am trying to get a first NHS job to get experience. I see that there not many posts in surgery; would you recommend applying to junior dr jobs in emergency and orthopedics? Do you think doing these jobs would affect me applying to surgical training later?

Hey there, try to get any job you are getting as your first job. You can always change later to get experience in surgery. Joining medicine or other jobs doesn’t affect your application.

What happens if you dont get into any post cst training? Can you still work así a surgeon in another country for example

Hey, so if you don't get to any post straight away after CST, assuming that you would have completed your MRCS exam by then, you wouldn't still be able to work as a full fledged surgeon in another country. CST is general basic surgery foundation. In order to work in another country you must work as senior registrars for 3-4 years and complete FRCS exam to be working as a consultant

Hey, it depends how many months have you worked in surgery post your FY2 ( DON'T INCLUDE THE 1 YEAR AFTER INTERNSHIP). If post that you have worked for more than 18 months then you are over qualified for CST. For any further question you can connect with me on IG: @thesurgeondoctor

Hi I completed my mbbs (2016) and md in community medicine (2021) from Delhi govt colleges Currently m working with WHO for communicable diseases in Delhi I want to pursue pediatric training from uk I understand I will hv to write plab for gmc as I won’t be eligible to sit for the practical exam part of MRCPCH as I hv no acute emergency experience in pediatrics .. Does it sound doable with my cv ? Will I need to repeat FY1 and FY2 as well ? And will my non Clinical gap hamper in anyway?

Hey Aditi, thanks for reaching out. It's absolutely doable. You would need to get your plab 1 and 2. In the mean time could also get part 1 of MRCPCH done too. Non clinical gap won't hamper your chances for registration. However, it's always good to be in clinical job before you join NHS, gets a tad easier for job search. No you would not have to repeat FY1 / 2. However, you can join as a SHO CT1 / ST1 equivalent in paeds and build your portfolio for application.

Thanks a lot for that informative reply . Just to add on how fruitful will be doing a msc in child health for a year be till I complete my gmc registration..these are too costly and how feasible is London for jobs

Hey Aditi, You need to check the pediatrics self assessment score to see if doing a MSc helpful for gaining any advantage or not. A lot of people usually have pg cert in medical education or MSc/ PhD if the speciality demands that. Having said that, you can also do it later while you are working to decrease the cost and distance learning along with your work / Training. Hope this helps
