Copper coil burner

Turn on the subtitles for more informations. This is a alcohol burner I made using copper tube, cotton string and tin cans. Works very well as a burner and kinda well as stove.
🔥🔥🔥 be careful when handling alcohol and fire 🔥🔥🔥

One thing I forgot to explain in the video is that the base of the reservoir MUST BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS THE TOP OF THE SPIRAL to have enough flow for a large flame. Uma coisa que eu esqueci de explicar no vídeo é que a base do reservatório PRECISA FICAR NO MESMO NÍVEL DO TOPO DO ESPIRAL para ter um fluxo suficiente para uma chama grande.

Of all I've seen, this burner works the best for my situation. Very nice. Your added foot note was my first question, answered. One thing I noticed is that if starting with a coiled tube, it is important to completely straighten it before attempting these bends. My first attempt is quite sloppy compared to yours but it works great. The only drawback being that if fuel is still in the can after a burn, it will drip from the hole in the loop, So I either have to empty it or store it at a slant. My second attempt was a tad tougher as the tubing was thinner and not willing to bend without kinking. So I went the sand route and put the wick in later...just not all the way around the loop. It worked much better. Thanks for this technique. It's a good one.

Although in is pinch, these are clever, and could save your life in the time of need. I will recommend that two "back-flow" devices be installed on each leg. There is adjustable PSI that can be adjusted down to (0.1 PSI) or get the preset check valve units... These types of stoves love to back flow causing a gassed off explosion and often times leaving folks with horrible burns, and in some cases, left dead. The reason for such, is in the event that one leg/tube gets plugged from foreign materials, and the other leg/tube is still feeding the gassed off fuel oil and if you ever hear the flame roar go full throttle and double and triple in sound and size, you have about a minute to stop the flame, before the wicking action of the remaining leg/tube being gassed off internally causing a chain reaction of what is remaining and will splatter the remain fuel oil out of the holding vessel lid or no lid, now can ignite all of that... A glass of water on stand by to pour on the flame to put the flame out and to cool the leg/tube will prevent this run away... Good luck, I enjoyed the video.

@@Br1cht Well, clearly, you have never had a 3rd degree burn before. or had to take care of somebody who has. Brother, as macho as you just tried to come off as, as if being burned by spraying oils, is just not that big of a deal, lets say if your arm is burned my oil that is flamed, the amount of open wound to allow infection in, with in 4 hours, is a very serious deal, people all over the world die from this. as their is nothing there to seal your tissue away from airborne junk, and no blood supply to try and heal the wound, it is just muscle tissue open to collecting junk. But, you do you buddy. I do not wish anybody ever have to deal with burns from oil. it is a horrible way to live, as most wish they would have just died due to all the complications and can take years, if they survive. A video showcasing a "CLEVER" way to light or heat a small space for what ever reason, perhaps, even SHTF gameshow, that is a really bad idea, compared to other methods that are 100 times safer. just saying... The idea that you are okay with people learning this method of oil lamping, with out a warning of explosions from gas backing, well, good luck with that. As per me being a Yank, YES, and I am damn proud of it. I have been is 27 country's of the 193 or 197 or how ever many there is, I LOVE my country, and no other country can measure up to the USA.

Great project but watching the soldering was painful! Touching the iron for only a second at a time simply won't heat the joint enough, resulting in lumpy cold solder joints which will eventually leak. Keep the iron at the joint and let the solder wet and flow into the tin can. Keeping the iron for as long as it takes won't hurt anything. I would use a 100W iron to guarantee the temperature stays hot as the can and copper tubing easily conduct the heat away from the area to be soldered.

Seems to work . In the future use fine sand to fill the copper tube completely and tape the ends before bending. Works much better , :O)

Won't it leak after it cools off, like it did before you lit it? Do you have to empty the remaining fuel when you're done?

4:55 First, sand the areas of the can where you will be putting the holes. Then' make the holes in the can. Sand the ends of the copper tubing. Put it all together. Solder, using silver solder. --Much better results.--

A good tip is to put sand, (or water and freeze) inside of the tube before bending. Prevents crimps whilst bending!

Sadly no they are actually correct here , sand does not compress well so it keeps your tubes from collapsing when your bending copper.

@@killerdeamonking It depends on the diameter of the pipe you are wrapping the copper tubing around. If the diameter is large enough the copper tubing will not crimp. Only small, tight bends will crimp the tubing.

When you blow out the flame, does it carry on dripping fuel?

An excellent instructive video without any superfluous talking. BUT it you need to specify your fuel. People may want to try it with water - petrol, parrafin, kerosene, or alcohol - and the results could be dangerous.
