We miss you so much

I don’t think that if I had a time machine, past Nick would believe future Nick would be watching another man work on a smart car at 1130 on a Monday night. But… well, here we are.

I have 2 Smart cars. I bought my 2008 new and I have a 2013 that I bought used in 2018. Both run great and are daily drivers for my wife and I. It saves me from overusing my 2008 Ford Escape which is a terrific SUV. I wish that Ford still made the 2nd generation model. Since 2013 they've been crap. Looking forward to seeing more videos on the Smart.

Hey Tom! Another great video. I know you’re a Ford guy now but I’ve got a question about a Ram for you. I’ve got a 2018 Ram 3500 6.7L that has a constant hiss behind the driver dash. I’m out of warranty so I replaced the hydroboost and high pressure line from the power steering pump. Bled the system with a vacuum; hiss is still the there. Any advice?

When you removed the high side line, was the nylon insert stuck on the hydroboost side?

@@bb502cid No, the design changed for the 2013 - 2018 models to eliminate that problem. Seems that was a common problem on earlier models with the plastic liner being sucked into the hydroboost.

There’s a lot of later model 4th Gen’s that didn’t receive the updated line from the factory. My 14 and my uncles 16 both had the old line. I’d check your old hydroboost unit, if you still have it, and the new one on the truck to see if anything is stuck inside the high side orifice. You may be able to use a stethoscope and listen for the noise, save you the time of taking things apart and putting them back together. Also possibility of a boost or intake leak, but that hydro boost hiss is so loud and constant it’s easily distinguishable. I’d get yourself a stethoscope and get to listening.

@@bb502cid thanks for the advice. I can confirm that it’s the updated line. No liner inside the hydroboost (old one or new). The funny thing is that the hiss doesn’t start immediately but instead starts when the truck gets up to temp, almost like the system is building pressure and then bypassing. Since I replaced the hydroboost and high pressure line, I will give the stethoscope a try.
