Cool Truck Bed Divider - DIY!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this episode, Dirt Farmer Jay shows you how to build a DIY truck bed divider. Not only is this truck bed divider easy to build yourself, but it’s also good-looking, hard-working, and moderately priced. It even has built-in features that simplify the process of securing and accessing your load. Plus, you can customize it to fit your truck!
As far as we’re concerned, a truck bed divider is a must-have! No truck bed should be without one. There are many great units on the market for sale, and some people install a simple piece of wood to accomplish basic functionality. A truck bed divider with several built-in features works really hard and makes it easy to keep items near the tailgate for easy placement and removal.
Your truck bed cargo manager needs to be sized correctly both for security and ease of install and removal. And, it should have several places to secure items such as boxes, luggage, fuel cans, and accessories. Lastly, it should help support and secure items that are placed in the bed that come up over the top edge of the truck’s closed tailgate. This design “checks all the boxes” while being moderately priced and built easily.
Walk through the process with Dirt Farmer Jay as he shows you have to determine the dimensions of your pickup truck divider, cutting the parts, assembling the main unit, and then accessorizing the unit.
Sure, you can buy a divider, but with what you know now, you can quickly design and build one - customized for your rig - and you can JUST DO IT YOURSELF!

Nice job. As you said, it’s a good combination of plain & fancy. I appreciate your explaining how to details (center punch, dry fit, how to get an accurate inside measurement). Some makers leave out these details leading to frustration for beginners. Including these details broadened knowledge of both beginner & intermediate makers. Thanks for sharing your idea. Your humble, straightforward presentation style is also much appreciated.

I'm glad you included the information about the height of the divider so you can haul lumber or other items without it interfering with the load. I wouldn't have thought about that until it was too late and would have had to go back and modify. Nice work. I like your style. If you are going to take the time to do something, make it right and make it look good!! Nice job. One option for width is to have a slotted system in the middle and to wing nut it in place when the width is completely extended. A little more work though and more parts also. I like the K.I.S.S. method anyway. Look forward to checking out more of your vids!

Love the divider you’ve built. With similar chalkenges for install on my truck, I’m consifering same build with one mod; do a vertical cut right thru center of one 2x6, then hinge it at back, with slide latch on front for easy “fold” removal and placement at different locations across bed. Love this for sure!

I like your idea. I was thinking could one use cargo ratcheting bars and attach them with rivets to the aluminum channel where they could placed anywhere in the truck bed. You have gave me the idea to try it.

I used old bed rail angles laying around. I also used 1/2 plywood exterior stained laying around. Once primed & painted, no one notices the age. Due to Texas Sun... a touch up paint helps it look fresh. Latched to original tie downs added. Truck is a 1970 F100.

I like your solution. A couple of years ago when I bought my truck, I was searching for an off-the-shelf bed divider, and I really couldn’t find anything that I liked, or that would work in the new, wider GM beds. I ended up building a cargo net out of half inch braided nylon rope, and 550 para cord. I put heavy duty carabiners on each end to attach onto the loops that were provided in my truck bed. Similar to your solution to hook cargo to your divider, I use carabiners along the length of the top rope to hook things to. It works extremely well, and is easy to get in and out if I’m hauling larger cargo. It works great for hauling fuel cans, groceries, luggage, etc.

Nice video and love the design and attention to detail. I was a little confused about the side channels and how the bed cover interfered with putting the divider in or taking it out. I would love to see a short clip to see how you place the divider into the bed or remove it when hauling larger items.
