In Southern India we have the same, except we call it Murukku, and the dough is of various kinds pressed through various kinds of mould in a compressor. Essentially, each kind of Murukku has its own specific dough recipe with different grains and spices, pressed through its specific mould, and deepfried. Its a very common snack too.

Literally every potato recipe on this channel - 1 - cut potatos into small cubes and boil 2 - Mash the potatos and add ____Starch 3 - Make it into a different shape everytime 4 - Fry them and that's it
