I always felt that was the purpose of ember island. To show that even though we’ve seen these kids as powerful benders and military strategists, at the end of the day they’re still teenagers who have little experience outside of the role of war. So it made this transition much more natural. If ember island didn’t happen it would feel out of character for the zuko we’ve seen to act this awkward and unsure

That's actually very interesting, because of how I was raised, I was an angry lil shit as a kid who just wanted to hurt people all the time but after seeing how dumb and wrong I was copying my dad, I became very socially awkward when trying to actually make friends. Crazy how a show taught me so much as a kid.
The scene were Zuko does his best Iroh and Azula impressions, just shows how both characters were pretty much his shoulder angel and demon respectively 😂

@@connor.chan.jazzman precisely.
fun detail: Zuko only sleeps with his scar exposed when he is among people he trusts. The burn affected his hearing on the left side, so if his good ear is covered with the pillow, he can't hear if something approaches him. During all the scenes where he is sleeping in the Fire Nation palace, he sleeps with his good ear exposed. Only when he joins the gAang he allows himself to sleep with his scar up. I think this is not only symbolic in the sense of "he only allows himself to be vulnerable with Aang and the others" but it must also be extremely more comfortable for him not to touch the scar to anything, since the damaged skin must be much more sensitive, which also means he allows himself to feel comfortable when surrounded by his friends.

With him being a fast learner during his water bending days, the Avatar spirit is totally an influence.
Zuko's redemption arc throughout this series was a work of art. The way this show effortlessly goes from humor to action to somber character moments is absolutely amazing
All the way back in season one Uncle Iroh was trying to teach Zuko that "power in firebending comes from the breath - not the muscles."
"but how did he survive that" "He didn't "Oh" Really got me XD
Zuko's, "Why am I so bad at being good," touches my heart every time I see it. I always laugh and cry at the same time. I find the line funny, but also feel Zuko's genuine anguish at having unintentionally hurting someone. It also makes me want to give him a motherly hug 🫂. Before that though, when he's imitating first Uncle Iroh then Azula is comedy gold.
Kataras voice actress is severely underrated . The kind of emotion she evoked was unmatched by any other voice actor in the series. The scene where she threatens zuko is great example. Also when she fought hama and when she fought with her dad at the beginning of season 3

I always liked that Toph was the one more amenable to zuko joining bc he wasnt there in season one when he was the main antagonist
the *ability* to bend the elements was given by the lion turtles as shown in the legend of korra, but the first bending *masters* were all taught by various spiritual entities: the waterbenders learned by watching the moon push and pull the tides. the firebenders learned from the dragons. the airbenders learned from the sky bison. the original earthbending masters (Oma and Shu) were originally taught by the blind badger-moles (this is also why toph is so goated since she also learned bending from the badger-moles

I think Katara always looks at Zuko and think about how he betrayed her and she was almost letting Aang to die while giving Zuko smoother skin
The colors that they showed was the vision!! When Zuko says "I see now", he understands fire bending comes from light 😭
To be fair to how about how Katara feels, the last time she trusted Zuko, Aang literally died. So her mistrust of him is really understandable.

Another take could be that Combustion Man had to focus really hard to concentrate that energy. Hitting him in the third eye is essentially similar to hitting the pressure points of a waterbender and chi-blocking them; you lose absolute control and focus on that part of your body(that's why chi blocking the hand still allows bending via legs). About the original bender. It is more the original how to bend the elemen, not original who gave the element. Sky bison, dragon, badgermole, and moon is the original from nature who has the ability to bend the element. Before people learn how to bend to the original source, they just have the power of the element.
Imagine Zuko meeting Obi-Wan. “Hello, Zuko here✋🏽🙂” “Hello there🙂”
fun fact: zuko decided to say “hello, zuko here” as a way to introduce himself! he was hoping that the gaang would respond back with their names cus zuko didn’t know their names yet 😭😭 he wanted a lil introduction with everyone ITS SO CUTE UGH I JUST HAD TO SHARE THAT

Hell yeah, fire book is the best one because all the characters have their development chapter, I'm craving you see all the episodes soon because they are soo good
There are so many parallels between Toph and her upbringing and the fire nation. Toph was kept away from her heritage as an earth bender. She was locked away from her culture and history, and so had to go outside of her community to learn earth bending from the badger moles. Zuko and Aang learn from the dragons because the same thing is happening to the entire fire nation. They have to go outside of the fire nation to learn the real culture and history of the fire nation. Toph is physically blind but culturally and historically she has "sight." The people of the fire nation can physically see, but are culturally and historically blind and stand no chance.
I love it! Thanks this show is amazing ❤❤🎉 Happy new year
"I understand" was the culmination of so much hardship.

How could there be haters!? Avatar The Last Airbender is one of the most incredible shows ever!
Nooo they’re almost near the end, this has been a good ride 🫶🏽🫶🏽
For the origin stories compared to Korra, I've always taken ATLA's stories as origin MYTHS. They never claimed they were factual, and after so long, how would anyone actually know that they were true? Similar to our creation myths, they were trying to explain the unexplainable. IE - how the Mayans believed people were made of corn or how the Norse believed that the earth was created from the flesh of a slain giant.
these episodes were so good!
I could be wrong or overthink but i thought the dragons spared zuko because they saw he was trying to redeem himself by joining the avatar and Aang because while he did run away he is making amends

It’s great to see Zuko try and learn katas :: since his depictions as a child you see Azula perform for The firelord and her own father and Zuko attempt to match it - stumbling and making incomplete movements… again done with anger and drive to prove himself to his father and against azula As he learns with Iroh to be himself and learn bending through feeling he memorized the movements for breathing all the way to lightning- his father is the first person to harm him with fire and do so on purpose and is the first person to try and use lightning against him which he redirects only when Zuko admits his feelings ab beliefs and his drive to work with the avatar. Zuko finds his purpose and his center which makes his bending as effortless as breathing or bending harsher forms of fire. (Spoilers) When Zuko is finally fighting Azula she has completed her personal mission that her father has instilled in her : To be the next Firelord and Rule the Nation. Check it off the list she gets the title and the ceremony yet she is left without feeling purpose or fulfillment. She realizes that at her core she wanted to be loved by her mother and has no ability to pursue that goal thanks to her prior actions and the actions of her father. She lacks purpose and is only filled with her own anger and resentments and frustrations about herself her actions and her past to the point she can’t imagine a future forward that fulfills her. Her anxieties and paranoia and anger keep growing as she is continuously unsatisfied. The realization that she will never rule with her father beside him as an equal but given the position and treated like a pawn/puppet leader underneath his imperial rulership. She’s not recognized for herself or her talents or even regarded for her skills or bending her usefulness to the country - it was always her loyalty to her father under his rule that she was given the position. This leaves her completely empty as it’s a title with no meaning or power or recognition she’s the replacement for a job that has now been downgraded in importance it is the scraps and old ways that do not matter with the future Ozai invisions. He’s leaving her behind in his place to do nothing but follow his orders forever as his servant NOT a actual position as a fire lord/ruler of the nation. When Zuko is fighting Azula we see how his movements and motions and katas are even tempered aligned with his wants and passion and Azula who’s purpose and future has been shattered by her own actions and her fathers rulership can’t keep up or perform on her own to the level needed to beat Zuko. She stumbles and falls multiple times and when given opportunities to change how she fights moves or even dancing with freedom she relays on the methods and her own history unable to change and move forward. Resulting in her defeat capture and her emotional breaking point as she is unable to continue fighting. Azula can fight and can perform and the mix of her group being 1 solid fighter/weapons expert and 1 solid acrobatic and her own power with flames show how she can relate to others on common ground. She can be a warrior or a dancer (yet she pushes these aspects and enjoyments of expression aside for belief that her father is better) or the prized princess with savant level skills Skills and power that she believes wholeheartedly is a result of her fantastic lineage. Her fire burns so hot because she believes that by blood and her role as princess that her flames are more powerful and superior to others. Without the right to rule or the greatness of her lineage (focusing in her final moments on her mothers side not her fathers side- which she considers as more powerful bloodline/succession to rulership) The confrontation with Zuko who claims to be the real firelord and his conviction that being firelord doesn’t include their father whatsoever -- is her breaking point. He can totally prove her wrong. And he does He also has katara known as the most motherly person in the entire group who may not look like Azulas mother but most certainly has the gentle kind spirit of care and compassion and restraint of violence. Kataras capture with water it’s the opposite of what Azula would ever expect and she isn’t even harmed physically just restrained and held in place, for someone who doesn’t know when they had a hug with their mother this is the closest someone has come to holding her and stopping her from acting out or doing the wrong thing or being aggressive. She feels like a child in time out having a tantrum or panic attack and it’s so painful to watch because it’s the only time in her life she’s allowed herself to breakdown and cry and scream to let her frustrations and anger with failure and isolation go. Her gentle capture is complete catharsis We just know that she doesn’t understand how to change or even who she really is or feels herself to be because so much of her identity relied on her father
how to block earthbend and airbend is one way but its not an event like firebend, the answer is chi energy.

Her father praised azula for her fire bending so she mostly spent time with him Zuko's mom sympathized with Zuko for not meeting his father's standards so she spent more time with him. And Azula became jealous. Because she spent so much time with her dad she talked like him. And when her mom left she was hurt because she thought she was the reason and that her mom thought she was a monster. A lot of people think that because azula is a prodigy and perfectionist her flames are blue. However another word for a perfectionist is a master. And the avatar is a master as well and prodigy when it comes to bending. And yet not one of the avatars in the past fire turn blue. She's definitely skilled with the moves she uses when it comes to fire bending. Her bending was orange as a kid and had turned blue when her mom left and she was left in the toxic relationship of her father. Her blue flames could do more with the fact she has a drive to make everyone obey her so that don't leave. We see more of her mental issues later in the series. It's possible I'm wrong because we've never seen a fire bender with blue flames before. However we also have never seen another fire bender in the avatar universe with mental issues like azula's.
