Conversion: CarmelCast Episode 1

Whether you’ve been praying for many years, or if you are just beginning, we all have one thing in common: the need for conversion. Lent is a season specifically set aside by the Church to focus on repentance and conversion. In this episode we explore what the Carmelite tradition has to teach us about living lives of continual conversion from the teachings of Saints Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross.

What suggestions do you have for making this Lent a time of conversion?

Thanks so much, Brothers! Looking forward to more podcasts! One of the suggestions I have to make this Lent a time of greater conversion is to develop a deeper sense of silence. I think we are bombarded with so much "noise" that actually listening to what God has to say, that "still, small voice", gets lost in the constant barrage from the outside world. There is so much distraction that anything of a spiritual nature, essentially, has very little chance of getting through. I hope to get more silence in my life this Lent, and that urge to "want to see God" becomes stronger every day.

@@ReginaClareJane Great suggestion! We are going to spend an entire episode in a few weeks on the importance of silence and solitude in prayer.

Hi Brothers! Great episode, thank you so much! Several spiritual writers talk about “root sin”. Perhaps a good exercise for this lent is to identify our root sin and work with desire, determination and discretion to eliminate it 😊 spiritualdirection.com/2010/04/26/how-can-i-identify-my-root-sin

I thank God for bringing me here. Learned a lot from this first episode. Especially from too many fasting days and not having enough hours of sleep has exhausted me to keep up in my daily prayer life. I continued to fast on bread and water three times a week in the beginning, and I was struggling to keep up, especially when I was at work. Intend to follow on all the episodes to continue to learn more for my daily conversion. Please pray for my 2 daughters conversion to return to the Catholic faith and church and for my grand daughter to receive her first Holy Sacrament of Communion and Confirmation. I am also praying for you and all priests. 🙏

This was excellent! I love the style. You are both so relaxed and natural. You take in turns to speak, swapping quite frequently, and you don't butt into each other while the other is talking. It's such a joy hearing (and seeing) younger people talking with such spiritual depth. And what most comes across in this video is your HUMILITY. I took notes as I listened to this. I intend to watch all the others over the course of time. Thank you so much for thinking to offer this to us and for taking the time to do so. It's the most excellent thing on all of KZread imho.

The God of all the world, how amazing you are to call these men into your special place of Carmelite beauty. Your wisdom shines brightly through these holy ones and the fruit of their sanctity is easily consumed by us viewers. We praise you Lord for allowing your gift of technology to bring the Carmelite tradition forward in 2021.

The carmel order is a great spiritual tradition with famous doctors of the Church . I have a profund connection with the life, the writings, the spiritual experience of St John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila…. because it led me to conversion after a spiritual retreat in a monastery of the carmel order.
