In this tutorial, we're going to explore the "intensity" feature in Generative Fill and then use this to create a watercolor painting from a photo. As part of this, we'll also look at the quickmask tool and how we can use this to change the intensity of our generative fill.

the best tutorial about turning photo into a image so far
Great tutorial as usual, super informative and so fun to watch your process- I sincerely appreciate your professionalism, perfect pacing, and never missing essential steps-can't wait to try this with one of my own landscape pics!
Very clever stuff, thank you Rickard - and that 'trick' of using Curves in the end is going to save me a ton of time. Also - your different treatments with making the watercolor paints more realistic - -adding the paint drops as just one example - that alone was worth the price of the ticket! 😀
this is a really unique and innovative way to build on an image with some new school and old school techniques combined. excellent work.
Have watched this 3 times now and am still blown away. I have 2 monitors so had this playing on one and photoshop on the other and your teaching worked perfectly 👍👍 now my family are blown away from what I created from a old family favourite holiday photo 😊
Thank you so much for making such a clear tutorial. Really appreciate your skill to explain.
This is a very good and interesting approach to watercolor paintings. Thank you.
Rickard, as an artist and an instructor, you are a master. Well done. One trick I did learn is clicking the "Edit in Quick Mask Mode" icon incorporates a select all, so you can eliminate the ctl/cmd-A as the first step.
Yes. Being playing with beta ai since it came out and started using own images with alpha channels and 30 percent brighteness toning etc. Dont want ai to take over. Not a fan of overcooked oils and prefer to find ways to keep results subtle but different ie sort of half original and half "soft painterly". The Video showed me more ways togo in this direction. Good stuff. Thanks!
Great info! Thanks Rikard
Absolutely fantastic tutorial 👍👍 purchased your course last year and boy o boy did I learn a ton 👍

Glad to hear!
I learned so much from your tutorial.... I didn't understand the idea behind intensity..... I simply always used 30%.. see you on your next one!
Excellent !
amazing teaching
Quick and easy ❤ thx a lot
I follow the instructions but don't get the warning prompt and consequently don't get the watercolor look; any suggestions? Thank you
great video
Great tutorial, thanks! Hope we will eventually get a box to enter the desired fill value in the generative fill dialog...🤔
Love your tutorials ! Artsy touch is always better ( for me to enjoy creating !) 😅
Thanks for the great tut. Been struggling with this technique and you shortened the Learning curve. Keen insight into the working of the tool. My only question is that Adobe says the Generative fill is 1024 x 1024 But when I work on my high res photo it retains the native resolution, Which is great, Any ideas why?
Great tutorial! I wonder if Photoshop's generative fill incorporates styles -- like if I ask for a watercolor painting in the style of (artist). When you do your first "intensity adjustment" you've got the original layer selected, which makes sense. But the subsequent "intensity adjustments" are made with the previous "intensity adjustment" selected ... does this mean the "25 intensity" is actually {25 of 10 intensity} and the "35 intensity" is {35 of 25 intensity}? Or because the base layer is the only visible layer do all of these end up being "x intensity of the 100 base layer"? Hopefully that makes sense.
would you please explain about intensity of sketch? have you done it previously?
Thanks. It seems like it doesn't work anymore, (Beta 25.12.0) as every time again -- both with front color or curves (15%-85%) -- I get 3 slight variations of the same blue to white watercolor x-ray like blob in a frame, while my pictures are mainly green landscapes with trees or a swan and a bit of blue sky...? Tried the same with released version 25.11.0, where it works fine.
what cursor app for your mouse are you using!????

Hi, would it be possible to trace a photo on iOS-ie, iPhone-version of the Photoshop and turn it into an impressionistic watercolour image somehow or not, please? Thank you kindly. Stay safe always.
Quick question...I noticed when you were creating the 3rd intensity watercolor you were on the 3rd layer not the original photo anymore, was that intentional? Should one be going from there or should it be the original?

From my own testing, when you use generative fill, Photoshop basically treats everything BELOW your active layer in the layer stack as a flattened image and IGNORES everything above your active layer in the layer stack. So as long as you are ABOVE your target layer in the layer stack, it will work as intended. And realize that Generative Fill ALWAYS creates a new layer, it never adds or removes pixels from your existing layers.
For me when I put 'watercolor painting' in a prompt it just generates a completely unrelated painting. Any help would be appreciated. :)

this will happen in your intensity is set too high. Adjust it as shown in the tutorial and you won't have this problem.
can someone help me please? the contextual taskbar option isn't there for me. How do I find it?

@@nuclylearn I got it to work. Thank you
hello hodja, I am Yasin from Turkey... I tried the green valley in this lesson in my own photoshop, but every time I do all the steps exactly the same, but 100% visual images come out :( I don't understand why this is happening, can you help me? I wonder if my Generative Fill is still in beta form, or is it not related to this?

Are you adjusting the intensity with a curve on the quickmask? The intensity should be working fine.
O fotochop dó bicho é cabuloso coloca foto de perfil achando que tá abalando kkkkkkk perdão irmãos quem não tem cão cassa com gato.
Good tutorial. Though PS AI is making strides, it's not just waterpaint. Anything to do with people and faces continues to be a horror show. They have much work to do in that area.
So, technically you could go detailing your sketch step by step and not lose the original idea. Like 15%-15%-15% you'd have a more detailed image while sticking to your sketch.
anyone familiar with this Nucly guy , i see they are selling products, but then also selling how to use the products as additional products sell ?? anyone know why ??? are the products that hard to learn ??

I'm that Nucly guy. I sell Photoshop courses and products (which come with tutorials). The products are all easy to learn and the tutorials are included at no additional cost. Photoshop can be a challenge to learn and that's what the courses are for. But I also have a lot of free tutorials on this channel. Hope that answers your question.

@@topflight2358 I've collaborated with Creator Foundry in the past, who sell Kristina and Joel's products-that's likely where you've seen my training in the past. Rikard and Nucly are the two names I've used, although years ago I started with a blog (Zevendesign) that I still post to on occasion. Is that the third name you're thinking of?
