The Carl Zeiss Distagon 21mm f2.8 C/Y mount lens, is a legendary lens, perhaps the most sought after Contax lens. With its value already very high and steadily rising, and less good copies being available, servicing these decades old lenses to survive modern use has been increasingly important.
I briefly introduce the lens and talk about some facts around this lens, its history and performance. Watch me as I take apart this beautiful lens with love and care, which has a stiff focus problem, haze under the front group, and a bent mount. I give it an overhaul, cleaning all its parts, correcting the bent mount, lubricating the focusing mechanism, cleaning the optics, and assembling the lens back while adjusting it for optimal performance. This lens also has a slight separation on one of its doublet, a common issue with the Contax 21mm f2.8 lenses, but since it doesn't affect performance in its current state, its owner followed my recommendation to not deal with it for the time being.

Really cool idea for branching out into different videos. Love that this also shows everyone a glimpse of how broad and deep your skillset is. Your commentaries are awesome. Really enjoyed the personal story about the lense you shared. Supply chain and shipping problems have made this knowledge of how to repair and service what you’ve got or can find essential. Could you do a video talking about the tools you use and how to choose the right tools when working with a lense. I know nothing in this area, but really want to know now. Had no idea this was possible. Nice inclusion of a few seconds of Musky Fire!

Hello, thank you for a great series of videos! I wonder which lenses are better to choose for documentary work: Zeiss Contax (MMJ F2.8 set) or Zeiss Classic (ZE F2 set). I'd like to use them with speed booster (x0.71) for my fs7 (

hi, great video, can I ask you which front ring you'd recommend for the 21mm - any 80mm ring will be too small, no?

There 82 to 77 (80OD) step rings. They might vignette very slightly on full frame / vista vision.
Would you do this for me on my cz c/y 21mm as a job?
May i ask why you BLUR the serial numbers on the lens in your videos?
