Meop79 I watch them too and I can see that Dr Campbell is probably more restrained but still more accurate than the mainstream media and the WHO. The mainstream media in some quarters are obsessed with comparing this virus to the flu. It’s cold comfort to people living in those quarantine zones that the flu has killed more people in total numbers but it seems more like a challenge. We should wait until the coronavirus virus kills more than the flu this year. They did the same thing with sars and when covid 2019 blew through the infection numbers and death rate it’s barely mentioned now.

Dr Campbell, thank you for your credible insights and informative content. My husband and I were in Venice this past weekend. When we arrived in Venice last Friday, we were scanned on arrival. We didn't think too much of it at the time, we just figured it was a precautioninary measure given the popularity of the Venice Festival. Sunday marked some big festivities in Venice squares with big crowds and cheer all round. On Sunday evening, we learnt that the outbreak in Italy had been more severe and that the spread had gone as far as Veneto, which is close to Venice. We also learnt that the rest of the festival had been canceled and more seriously that the source of the spread had not been identified. This was a great concern and we were hopeful that flights were not affected. Luckily our flights were fine and we flew back to Amsterdam as planned yesterday afternoon. On arrival at Schiphol Airport, we were not scanned for fever and things seemed really calm and normal. I was quite surprised given the news in Italy. My husband and I have however made the decision to stay indoors and out of human contact for the next 2 weeks. Although we have no symptoms, we believe that it is the best and most responsible choice. There are so many unknowns with this virus it seems and we would not want to risk it or anyone we know.

I work in critical care outreach and and have been concerned about covid19 for weeks. I have tried to discuss this with my seniors both medical and nursing and my concerns been dismissed, usually by saying it's going to be no worse than flu. I've suggested that we ensure we have enough FP3 masks, forward plan such as designating 'clean' ITU and 'covid19' ITU areas, plan to stop elective surgery to allow ventilators in theatres to provide extra capacity. No one is interested. When I point out that 5% of patients will need ITU and models show that 60% of the population will be infected in a year, it doesn't seem to register. Even if we get lucky and the rate of spread is slow so we only get a gradual incline rather than a steep peak, it is going to severely tax an already close to capacity service. I think that because SARS and H1N1 (swine flu) didn't get as bad as was predicted, it has led to complacency in the NHS, sort of a boy who cried wolf situation. My managers are more concerned about our units mandatory training compliance figures. We don't even have anywhere to change out of our uniforms at work so I will have to change out of my uniform in my garage to prevent my 5 and 7 year olds from being exposed to the 100% certain exposure that I will have to deal with soon. I hope I am wrong.

The NHS is a very top down bureaucracy, and as far as I am aware, the risk assessment is low to moderate currently, and I am not aware of any specific plans for this outbreak, and I would be involved in implementing this directly. The fact that I am unaware of this means in reality it has not happened.

Every pandemic is important to monitor. Your superiors sound ignorant (to put it nicely) and they work in the medical field. Unreal. They should know how bad SARS was and that we got lucky that it mutated and snuffed itself out by becoming less virulent, like the first version of Ebola (unfortunately there's another strain that popped up and might turn into a second pandemic if COVID-19 cohabits with it and makes all our efforts to contain Ebola useless... We all know how lethal Ebola is, so that would be horrific). The exposed incompetences of our "modern" societies are showing gaps in our foundations. Keep fighting. Make them understand or when the time comes, they'll come crying to you in utter denial and panic. Prepare them subconsciously by talking about it all the time. Don't stop. It's better to be safe than sorry. Life is better to death and health is better to sickness. This isn't a joke anymore. Haha, the memes were funny and now the memes are dead. Shit just got real and you're not crazy; they are for dismissing the biggest potential threat to their livelihoods.

The reason it is still managing to spread in Italy and other places is because all measures are being taken reactively and not proactively. We know that virus can spread during incubation period when person has no symptoms, yet areas are being closed off only after there is a confirmed case detected. That means that it is very likely too late, and the virus had been spread outside the quarantine zone. Then after few days there is a confirmed case somewhere else, that area gets closed off, which again is too late, and the cycle repeats. In order to really hinder and possibly stop virus spread, an entire country needs to be segmented into closed off areas, no matter whether there has been detected case of a virus or not, and stay like that until the virus is under control. Needless to say that no movement between zones should be allowed except for humanitarian logistics (food, meds, fuel), which should be fully decontaminated each time it passes a checkpoint between two zones. This is the only way to really put a halt on this virus. Will the economy suffer greatly? Yes, but a lot of lives will potentially be saved. Europe managed to rebuild after being devastated by two world wars, and there is no doubt it will be able to rebuild again. The problem is that it is the rich and powerful of this world who will suffer the most from a large scale economic deterioration and they don't want to lose their status quo. So governments and oligarchs would rather sacrifice thousands and millions of people by not containing the virus, hiding behind rhetoric and fear mongering about economic collapse, rather than fully committing to fighting the pandemic.

  • @conghaoxu7344

Correct, contagious during incubation=necessity for proactive full lockdown, a 3 to 4-week full lockdown is likely going to contain the virus outside China, and likely the "cheapest" control measure on the table. China has been in full lockdown for 4 weeks now, and now the daily new confirmed case figures are significantly less than discharged cases, meaning the control measures worked. The problem is not every community can afford a full lockdown this long, if WHO declares pendemic, it might make things easier for those who can't.

How is it possible that the virus is in Iran, which is difficult to enter, and not in New York City, which handles hundreds of flights a day? I think it is here in NYC being spread by asymtomatic people. Do hospitals even have the proper testing kits? This is the financial center of the world. The network news can not be relied upon for the truth in this matter. Certainly not Trump officials. If they lie about crowd size, they certainly would lie about COVID-19.

We have thought about and stocked all medications and things we want when feeling ill... gator aid, chicken broth, Imodium, etc. We are thinking about this daily and modifying our habits...don't touch your face--tough not to do!! >, FREQUENT hand-washing, no physical contact with general public, (Hugs, handshakes) and keeping away from busy areas, keeping distance from others. We understand that the government wants to do all it can to prevent EVERYONE from stocking up at once...with our just-in-time system at grocery stores, the shelves would be bare. NOW is the time to react...don't wait until there is a cluster that pops up in your general area because it will be too late to prepare then...and you won't want to be among masses of people at grocery stores potentially being infected while laboring for limited supplies. Noticed yesterday that hand sanitize wipes and many cleaning products were either gone or in low supply. This is serious stuff. No panic, but take extra precautions. Good supply of water, batteries and propane for alternative heating source should power be lost.

It makes me so upset especially since we have two small children and I have an autoimmune disease and he won’t listen, we need to be prepared and stay away from these sleeping carriers. Our country is absolutely silent on the matter which leads me to believe its covering up a huge problem. The kids and I have been staying home except for runs to the grocery. He believes there’s “no boogie man” around the corner and our government actually works in our interest and would tell us when to worry. He believes this world is good, he’s a happier person for it. My opinion is that Singapore has done a splendid job. Their government is giving info to citizens, and not drip feeding it. And most importantly, they have not created a panic there, since they are taking it seriously and telling people what they are doing. That has helped the populace there to take the preventative measures seriously. There are several factors at play here, but it seems that telling what you know and how you prepare does not indeed create a panic that makes things even worse.

@Oggy I find the lack of cases in NZ disturbing, implausible that we haven't had a case. The Wuhan evacuees were released a few days ago after two weeks, would make for an awfully convenient excuse as to how Corona showed up in NZ. I've seen some evidence that a number of countries aren't testing potential cases, people calling hotlines with symptoms being told to self quarantine. The story I heard in NZ was an onsite IT guy who worked on a number of Chinese students PCs coming down with symptoms and being told 'you can't have it, it's not in NZ but self quarantine anyway' or something to that effect. And the exemption for Chinese students is borderline suicidally stupid.

  • @mindfulharmony1816

    @mindfulharmony1816

    4 жыл бұрын

Oggy .. and all 😀 As of yesterday, the reason for testing in NZ was if you were from Wuhan or had contact with anyone with it - just from Wuhan... or all of China I’m not sure, but is very inadequate IMO). I saw a figure somewhere (sorry can’t remember where) that 7000 in self quarantine here in NZ but none or very few being tested. So other countries are not accounted for as far as I can tell. Dept of health say they have protective gear and so on, but for health workers only. This stuff can’t be obtained anywhere in NZ as far as I can tell. We are 3 islands so not as many borders to check, or ways to have to do it - could help I think. I’ve been doing a crash course on 1) this site, 2) MedCram and 3) Peak Prosperity. The former two in particular. Brain rather full up at the moment! Am getting about 3 months of supplies with long use by dates. Have compromised person in household. Countries that can slow spread can ease pressure on hospitals. But I have no idea of free beds for critical or serious case in the hospital near me.... Or how sensible people in authority will be. l From psychology.... most people are optimistic and don’t like thinking about scary problems - this works most of the time and is rewarded. A few people are over the top paranoid. Then there are those who are open to evidence, critical thinkers who don’t cling to a security blanket if evidence changes, who can change their minds and can prepare, even though they may look foolish later. I think I’m the latter, finding info, doing the balance between complacency and paranoid. Having a daily watching brief. Buying more essentials....

Given the response of the people around me, I wonder I'm worrying too much? But I am a qualified PH specialist so I do know the area. So, if we took H1N1 was modelled to infect one in five by the end of the 2009 swine flu pandemic. I know its a different virus, but it was the last pandemic. There were so many cases during the pandemic peak that they stopped counting. The mortality rate was approx 0.2% and the R0 was modelled to be approx 1.4 - 1.6 through retrospective disease model analysis. It spread across the globe with disease burden at its highest lasting several months (whole pandemic curve lasting over a year). This novel coronavirus has many additional challenging elements such as aerosolization, the asymptomatic infection periods and the potential for much longer incubation. There is also so much we don't know yet as well as the possibility for a mutation given the unpredictability of RNA viruses. (Equally though, by the same process there is the potential for a less impactful mutation). Add to this the global clusters, evidence from the Diamond princess and Iran; to me, this poses a significant risk to population health. I've been a Public Health professional and an epidemiologist for nearly 15 years now and I have some concern both globally and domestically that there does not appear to be an appropriate level of risk response associated with what we know. I'm sorry for this long message, I just worry maybe because this is my area of research and I make KZread videos on this every night so spend most of my time assessing data on this I wonder if I've become hypersensitive to it because everyone around me just seems to not share any of my concerns.

I’ve prepared myself as well for the worst. I’ve had 20-30 bouts of pneumonia in my 37 years. It took nearly 5 years to get a doctor that could treat me in Canada. God save us all. I’m praying for everyone as I hope we all are. May our way of life continue after a brief bump in the road and not come crashing to a halt. Something tells me that when we do eventually find a vaccine we may see many auto-immune diseases magically cured.

My child developed a mild fever 3 weeks ago. 2 days later it spiked to 104 and he was like a zombie. Rush to ER. Did test pos for infl. A, fever passed and was mild for 2 more days. No other symptoms with the headache and fever. Then next morning he could not walk. Was 48hr before slow regaining use if legs to normal after 24 hours of limited control. Est 2 weeks since past illness ended. Last night shortly after bed he got up and vomited all over the house! No temperature increase. As I was trying to tend to him and clean he developed diarrhea at same time. Wife is pregnant so I sent her to isolation in bedroom until I can clean this all up. 5 hours of sick child and all my stock of strong cleaning products... he got to sleep and I went shopping for more sickness prevention items. At Walmart, the night stock was empty the shelves into carts. No boxes. All bleach and Clorox and vitamin C was taken to the back. I tried to get some of the items and was told it is already sold.

I knew people who had them as a child and their body goes a little bit nuts as it tries to figure it out. This novel coronavirus seems to be a focus on the lungs rather than being like a standard flu virus that affects many other things.

Why are they still saying this? The Chinese have said aerosol transmission for some time now. Are they disagreeing or just out of date? Please can you comment on this

Jacob Castro I think there is a fair amount of drip feeding news to the public. Maybe they have agreed to hold back on announcements through pressure from paymaster governments who are seeking time to prepare. "If a chessboard were to have wheat placed upon each square such that one grain were placed on the first square, two on the second, four on the third, and so on (doubling the number of grains on each subsequent square), how many grains of wheat would be on the chessboard at the finish? The problem may be solved using simple addition. With 64 squares on a chessboard, if the number of grains doubles on successive squares, then the sum of grains on all 64 squares is: 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + ... and so forth for the 64 squares. The total number of grains equals 18,446,744,073,709,551,615, much higher than most expect." From Wikipedia : "Wheat and chessboard problem"
