Summary:
In "The Great Minds Series: Conscious Reality," we navigate an enlightening dialogue where Prof. Hoffman and Swami Ji merge the profound teachings of Advaita with the frontiers of modern science. They begin by sharing personal journeys that have shaped their views on philosophy and consciousness, emphasizing the need for mathematical precision in understanding consciousness and the philosophical depth of the Vedas. Discussions range from skepticism about our sensory 'Headset' to interpreting non-duality and the symbolism of perception in Advaita. Prof. Hoffman reveals transformative experiences that have redefined his theories, while the conversation also tackles the differentiation between reality and perception, the intersection of spirituality and science, and the completeness of inquiries into reality. Incorporating Isaac Asimov's narratives and debates on physicality versus illusion, the episode culminates in a rich discourse on foundational philosophical issues and the nuances of Emergence, Complexity, and wave function collapse. Join us as we unravel these intricate topics, each moment delving deeper into the essence of being.
Timecodes
00:00 - Intro
01:58 - Both reveal how their individual experiences and contemplative insights have guided them to their present views in philosophy and science.
07:36 - Interpreting consciousness necessitates mathematical precision.
11:52 - The range of ideas and philosophies contained within the Vedas.
24:05 - A candid moment where Don expresses polite skepticism
33:08 - Swami Ji could see the 'Headset' as a symbol for how the mind filters reality, akin to Advaita's view of perception.
37:29 - Pointers merely indicate; they aren't the reality itself.
50:12 - Our 'Headset' is extremely dull!
01:00:39 - There are various pointers, and non-duality is one such pointer.
01:11:50 - Your body is merely your avatar.
01:33:22 - Prof. Hoffman has experienced reflective moments leading him to re-evaluate his perspectives on consciousness, which have influenced the evolution of his theories.
01:36:05 - How do you differentiate between what’s objectively ‘real’ and out perceptions of reality?
01:44:33 - Where do the paths of spirituality and science intersect?
01:46:18 - When does an inquiry reach its conclusion?
01:47:58 - The discussion turns to the concept of incompleteness in understanding reality.

Mr. Vishvarupa (AKA Swami Sarvapriyānanda) is undoubtedly a VERY intelligent man, but the fact that he supports the two most pernicious institutions in the history of the earth, as well as him being an animal-abuser, says much about his true moral character: F.I.S.H. Paragraph 28. Feminism is the penultimate evil at present because feminism is based on the misguided assumption that women are equal to or even superior to men. Although a female can exhibit superior traits, skills, etcetera, to some men, a woman can never have AUTHORITY over a man. Truth be told, no true man would ever descend to the level of accepting counsel from any of his subordinates. A man should fully obey his appointed masters and never emasculate himself by submitting to the dictates of a female. Feminism and democracy are guaranteed to destroy society, as can be clearly seen at present. However, feminism will NEVER EVER be destroyed until the most pernicious institution is first destroyed: F.I.S.H Paragraph 26. Democracy is evil because the masses will invariably choose the murderous Barabbas over the good King Jesus. This planet is surely doomed unless the most pernicious institution ever known to man (democracy) is replaced by the only legitimate form of government (monarchy - preferably a good monarch, though even a bad king is preferable to being ruled by an elected official who can never be good). Most of the problems in human society are directly or indirectly attributable to this relatively modern phenomenon, since it is the government’s role and sacred duty to enforce the law. Just because good and bad are relative, does not imply that they do not exist. They do exist but are relative. A democrat can never be good, despite appearing so. One of the many sinister characteristics of democracy, communism and other evil forms of governance, is the desire for their so-called “leaders” to attempt to control or at least influence the personal lives of every single citizen. For example, in the wicked, decadent nation where this holy scripture was composed, The Southland (or Australia as it is known in the Latin tongue), the demonic government tries and largely succeeds in controlling the rights of parents to properly raise, discipline and punish their children according to their own morals, limiting legitimate powers an employer has over his servants, persecuting religious leaders (even to imprisonment and death, believe it or not) and even trying to influence what people eat and wear. Not that a government shouldn’t control what its citizens wear in public, but it should ensure that they are modestly dressed, which is hardly the case in Australia and similar nations. Basically, the worst of the democratic governments promote or at least permit all things contrary to God’s perfect and pure will such as adultery, fornication, prostitution, pornography, homosexuality, gambling (even running lotteries themselves), illegitimate abortion of poor innocent unborn children, irreligion, drug addiction, disrespect for authority and promoting materialism and ignorance via a powerful network of institutions of miseducation (so-called “schools, colleges and universities”). Let it be known however - democracy can not and will not endure. The truth shall triumph! Democracy is only acceptable within large business corporations, where the shareholders must vote on who will be the company bosses and other matters. To read the remaining chapters of “A Final Instruction Sheet for Humanity”, which are the most accurate spiritual precepts so far in human history, Email the address on my KZread homepage, with the acronym “FISH” in the subject field. 🐟 “The cure for nescience is unerring knowledge”.

This is one of the rarest conversations where a scientist and a religious monk come together to discuss both sides of the human experience. Hindus have always been seekers, not just believers. It's an absolutely fantastic conversation!

When more see where human words at best can tickle at truth/ D'Vine truth/s.{the vine~cord & or such} Which ever label one or the other uses.... When we see that labels limits (in a sense) The harmony of humanity and All life will hum a pleasing tune for all, in the greatest of sound ever one may only imagine. Regardless of which book/s one looks in, it is at best bread crumbs & often programs humanity. The simple essence of life and love has been set on the back shelf. We all play a part. Common denominators for me with observing my mind, humans, action, and life itself in all aspects which gain my focus. Possible & in a sense (not Innocents) per say. We all have it. We all must slow our roll & see our role. The row of life in the seen and unseen. Humanity ~kneads~, so we must ~knead~ ourselves our children our neighborhoods our towns, our states, our countries, our continents and such. The start is with and in each of our own minds. Be gentle. IN A SENSE, we all need to return to kindergarten and sew what they reminded us of. We all are complicating the simple aspect that affect all of humanity. I do know for me, detoxing to what I have been taught & simply in~joying the human experience, is often challenging and lonesome. The best books to read per say are of no words & the feeling of connectedness of all. Every single spec and the spec within the spec... Only to dis~cover another spec.

Hoffman just rambles on about "markovian polytopes" that "decorate permutations" and can cause "scattering events in spacetime." Hoffman is talking bullshit hoping you will be impressed with his big words that he never breaks down into smaller pieces. I ain't falling for it.

Swami is so happy. Go swami go. Some of us saw the convergence with Schrödinger’s and Bohr’s observations when they were confronted with the results of the new science. Wheeler,Capra, Zukav,Heisenberg were all taken in with the interconnectedness and non local nature of entanglement. Brahman Is. Rest is not. Swami’s joy is lovely to watch. As for Donald, what can one say. Persistence pays off. How lovely. Don’t expect quick transformation. Western science has a lot invested in their methods and to accept the fact that a bunch of guys, turning their bodies and mind in to a laboratory had SEEN the truth of reality. Lets remember that Hindu word DARSHAN (philosophy) means to see. The seers of the day had SEEN through the veil of maya. Swami, knock ‘em dead

Advaita Vedanta is a methodology given to us by our ancient rishis to help discover our true nature. That Space & time and this jagat all exist within Ishwara ( Consciousness +Maya) was known to our rishis thousands of years ago, brilliantly explained here by Swamiji. This truth is manifest in every aspect of the Hindu way of life. Now that the west has realised the fallibility of space & time, it might be worth its while to make a paradigm shift in the way the world is understood.

Well said. It seems that the ancient methods of inquiry into consciousness were very similar to the scientific method, the difference is that their "instrument" was their own experience. This is seen as unacceptable by most modern scientists, but they must realize, this rejection is only based on preconceptions. Our own conscious experience is the only "instrument" we have to explore consciousness.

  • @SpiritualPsychotherapyServices

    @SpiritualPsychotherapyServices

    3 ай бұрын

@@nomadcrows consciousness/Consciousness: “that which knows”, or “the state of being aware”, from the Latin prefix “con” (with), the stem “scire” (to know) and the suffix “osus” (characterized by). To put it succinctly, consciousness is the SUBJECTIVE component in any subject-object relational dynamic. The concept of consciousness is best understood in comparison with the notion of sentience. Cf. “sentience”. As far as biologists can ascertain, the simplest organisms (single-celled microbes) possess an exceedingly-primitive form of sentience, since their life-cycle revolves around adjusting to their environment, metabolizing, and reproducing via binary fission, all of which indicates a sensory perception of their environment (e.g. temperature, acidity, energy sources and the presence of oxygen, nitrogen, minerals, and water). More complex organisms, such as plants, have acquired a far greater degree of sentience, since they can react to the light of the sun, to insects crawling on their leaves (in the case of carnivorous plants), excrete certain chemicals and/or emit ultrasonic waves when being cut. At this point it is imperative to consult the entry “sentience” in the Glossary of this Holy Scripture. According to this premise, the simplest forms of animal life possess sentience, but no noticeable semblance of true consciousness. As a general rule, those animals that have at least three or four senses, combined with a simple brain, possess a mind but lack an intellect. Higher animals (notably mammals) have varying levels of intelligence but only humans have a false-ego (sense of self). Thus, human consciousness is constituted of the three components: the mind, the intellect, and the pseudo-ego (refer to Ch. 05). There is a rather strong correlation between brain complexity and level of consciousness, explaining why humans alone are capable of self-awareness. In this case, “self-awareness” is not to be confused with “self-recognition”, which is a related but quite distinct phenomenon, found also in several species of non-human animals, in which an animal is able to recognize itself in a mirror or some other reflective surface. “Self-awareness” refers to the experience where a human over the age of approximately three years, is conscious of the fact that he or she knows (that is, aware) that he or she is aware. Obviously, in the case of a child, he or she may need to be prompted in order to first be acquainted with this understanding. For example an adult could ask the child: “Do you know that you have a toy car?” “Yes!” “And do you KNOW that you know you have a toy car?” “Umm...I think so...yes!”. In contemporary spiritual circles (as well as in several places within this book), the capitalized form of the word usually, if not always, refers to Universal Consciousness, that is, an Awareness of awareness (otherwise known as The Ground of All Being, et altri).

Just after quantum field theory...my learning about spirituality n physics starts to understand each other and depending on each other... To me, the quantum physics and the ultimate building block of universe made me thinking about the purpose of my existence. Like same particles formed a table n chair, food , air, light, water, my body... Now the table chair air water light air has their purpose, their forms n name really living their purpose.. So the name n form as me.. The particles must have some purpose through the maze of space time... What is that... And that is the point of looking into... Like is that all! Am I just name n form, of some particles, or something beyond that...!?

Another amazing conversation. I would watch any dialogue that Dr Hoffman is involved in and this one with Swarming Sarvapriyananda is wonderful for its spiritual insights. I just wondered as we are all a part of the one consciousness, in fact we are all one consciousness, we are all “god” or “Buddha” etc what is the one consciousness? Is it the ultimate good or divine as religion says? What is the reason to try and go towards being”good” or”love” is that just a concept in time and space and a murderous dictator or war monger goes back to one consciousness with impunity having shown that is what can be in time and space. I hope that makes sense. I want to lead a meaningful existence and striving towards love and creating value is that important? and why is it? I hope that makes some kind of sense. Thank you so much to everyone involved.

Young in his Reith Lectures on 'Doubt and Certainty in Science' dismisses consciousness altogether, because, if consciousness 'is a thing in the ordinary sense, it could be observed directly like any other object.' Since it cannot be observed, he concludes that it must be rejected as an 'occult quality.'"~~S. Radhakrishnan, "Religion in a Changing World," page 80.

The best talk between 2 different realms of the same reality , a wonderful collection of all the beautiful vedantic and scientific analogies in one talk , adding my drop on it , dream analogy ( my fav as it’s always relatable ) this talk and me listening to this talk feels like in my dream one person is taking science and another Vedanta , both trying to find the truth and making progress in own way with lots of beautiful discussions and debate and all of us you tube viewer are listening to it , trying to figure out what is means , why , how , when , the right the wrong , the dual and the non dual, etc etc ……and then suddenly I wake up 🙂…..to the ultimate TRUTH …. It was all ILLUSION My Final understanding that helps me after this talk Life a Time Pass ( Present moment with all its illusion - dream within dream ) In the end I ( consciousness/ awareness)am that alone single happy child doing this child play ( universe and creation) I am the one who did all this and I am the one who will not change any thing ( the dramas of creation ) because I am very joyous about every thing ( movie in the movie screen analogy ) 🙏🙏🙏

Very exciting session. I was waiting to see both Swami and Don in a same session. Got my wish. One point though with regards to comment at 02:28:00. Swamiji referred to blankness and nothing with respect to deep sleep. There is a difference between nothing and blankness so we have to be careful with the usage. A good example of explaining sleep and waking is by using the example of a room. A room is well lit and you can see all the objects in the room (furniture, walls, floor etc..) is like the waking state. Switch off the light and there is utter darkness, no objects are seen, but they are not gone. Sleep is same as that dark room, you cannot say there is nothing, everything is there but hidden in darkness. Nothing means zilch, nada, nothing at all. The statement that there is appearance of nothing to consciousness in deep sleep for the enlightened one also does not seem right. How can nothing appear? Nothing means there is nothing, zilch nada. For enlightened one all the states are same there is just pure consciousness. In deep sleep there is just pure consciousness for a Jnani. For Ajnani in deep sleep there is mass of darkness in deep sleep, it is a state of nescience, neither the world is known nor the truth.

@@ananthan8951 do this thought experiment. Close your eyes and immediately open it. I will tell you between closing and opening your eyes you were asleep for 10 hours. Will you believe it. No. Why? Because you know the experience of sleep. You may not know the duration because mind is quiescent and so there is no space and time projection. You claim on waking up, I dreamt, I had a sound sleep. You can only claim something if you have experienced it. Otherwise you will say there are just 2 states waking and dreaming.

@@ananthan8951 the reference for deep sleep being a state of nescience is Mandukya Karika verse 1.11 to 1.15. So in deep sleep mind is not killed, the sleep knower, the “pure ego” is still intact but everything is covered in a mass of darkness. It is a causal state, all the mischief is still there in potential form ready to burst out at waking. As long as there is experience you are in the realm of ignorance be it waking, dreaming or deep sleep.

Thank you for your question. Addressing the nature of suffering is indeed complex and often intertwined with spiritual perspectives. As our channel is not religiously affiliated, we approach such topics from a secular, educational standpoint. For a more spiritual exploration, I would recommend Swami Sarvapriyananda's channel, which delves deeply into these themes from a knowledgeable background.

Listening to Swamiji’s statements from around the 1:10:50 mark to about the 1 hour 13-minute mark, with regard to the three commentators: Patanjali, Shankaracharya, and Gaudapada, I am wondering if one could associate the Gaudapada reference of “the very nature of the shining reality is to shine” with Ananda (of SatChitAnanda)? I’ve heard people ask about Ananda, and I have sort-of earmarked this bare effulgence as Ananda since the time I’ve been learning of Vedanta, but would that be incorrect? In like manner after hearing this snippet of the video today, I associated the quietened, non-projecting state of meditation (Patanjali) as the unveiled bare existence, Sat; and the knowledge state of the Gyani (Shankara) as the unveiled bare Consciousness throughout all experience, Chit. I know it is not divided, but this is how I heard it today.

This is pure gold. I want to see more of it. If non-duality is all there is and time allows for this non-dual infinite reality to manifest itself, then Don should be able to find something true about it because this apparently dual reality is not dual, it is unique in every aspect. The mistery that needs to be solved in this case is the baryon asymmetry. The universe started with duality, but somehow, as it gained complexity, 1 in a billion particles kept existing, therefore, for not having an "anti-pair" of anti-matter. So, the discussion about duality vs non-duality in our reality doesn't stand anymore because the universe kinda solved it at the beginning by creating complexity that doesn't have the opposite. The universe seems to be asymmetrical all the way down and it's black and white reasoning that fails to see the uniqueness in everything. Nuanced reasoning is an observer and creator of complexity and it's also asymmetrical.

"Consciousness" according to Lord Buddhas' teachings in Theravada Buddhism "vingana " (dependent origination, "patichchasamuppada" ) explains how Consciousness forms as a phenomenal process. When the five sensory aggregates + past life experience "mind" in a "spark " with lighting speed with out side physical objects amalgamate to create an energy. Which with the help of the blood stream in "heart" generate magnetic "brain waves" & store in brain as memory. Which begins the core of a "seed " life energy called " Kamma". For example as a worldly phenomenon, " seed " generate growth to a plant with help of "nature".

Thank you everyone for this candid and honest attempt at building bridges. To my understanding the human physiology and intelligence is still underdeveloped to be able to understand consciousness and parabrahman is still too far away. It is like say a cup of tea trying to decipher itself, is able to conclude that there is water, tea leaves, milk and sugar. But beyond that how the tea leaf grows and gets the taste, how the milk is produced, how sugar is produced, all that is beyond the capacity of the cup of tea to comprehend. Therefore I would say that in the future after several subsequent cycles of human birth and death, when some evolved spiritual souls take up scientific education, definitely they will be able to make more sense of things.
