Truth. museum staff keep saying that and it ends up being listed online but people in ct don't want to be called "nutmeggar", we don't use it, some of us don't even know the name.
Tips from a nutmegger: -Come anywhere from May to October -Get a lobster roll -Visit a town along the golden coast, it’s quintessential New England -Visit Devil’s Den nature preserve in Weston, best hiking in CT -If you come in winter, I guarantee it will be 40 degrees with rain or an overcast -Be aware of bad road quality

Southport is not really a town; it's part of Fairfield, but it's beautiful. Another park to consider is Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, which has some 30 miles of trails packed into a small space. You'll find everything from moderate walking to scrambling (i.e. using both hands and feet). In the northwest corner, there's a 50-miles section of the Appalachian Trail as well.

Don't forget the orchards in picking seasons - if you go through the backroads you'll find one in every town with apple or peach or berry picking and the best pies you can buy. I recommend Lyman orchards, they are one of the well-known ones and have a great corn maze come fall. Glad he mentioned the Pequot museum, it really is incredible. I'd definitely recommend the smaller coffee shops instead of Dunkin though, they are really cute. If you're outdoorsy, look for kayaking, the waterways are gorgeous, and if you have kids - the Hartford children's science museum is my favorite thing!

My son and his family live in Waterford, Connecticut. We've been every place that you mentioned and so many more. We're from California and visit Connecticut twice a year. We absolutely love it!
I love my Connecticut 💞
I live in Mystic CT and I agree with your recommendations. I have a few more - the cemeteries are fascinating. I mean they are old and filled with really unique tombstones . Not many places in the USA where you can find tombstones dating back to the 1600’s. Many of these stones have written stories of the persons life and/or death. If you like antiques you’ll love the number of antique stores here and there. And despite CT being costly you’ll find some very reasonable prices in those stores. Then there’s the Peabody Museum, affiliated with Yale University, which has some of the finest collections of dinosaurs in the world. As for lodging accommodations check out some of the Airbnb’s. There’s more still but I’ve said enough. Come and visit, you’ll be happy you did…

Gillette's Castle State Park is also a nice half day visit, with hiking trails and the German-style castle built during WW1. Close by is Devil's Hopyard State Park. Sadly Hartford is a pretty dangerous city, because the Capitol is amazing and would otherwise be worth a visit. Most believe it to be the most beautiful state capitol in the country.

Good points but I call bs on Hartford being "dangerous" - it's totally fine. I go there regularly. Keep your wits about you and stay out of the North End. Downtown has many historic areas, totally worth seeing. A good number of homeless people, especially at night, but be smart and it's no big deal. The Capitol is indeed beautiful and so is Bushnell Park. Check out the Mark Twain House, CT Science Center (great for kids), and the Wadsworth Athenium if you like art. Don't let fear keep you away.

I’ve lived in Groton my whole life (less then 20 min from the seaport) and I thought it was the coolest thing in middle school I was in the Amistad Friendship Society and 1 weekend we had a field trip to go sleep on the Amistad when it was at the Seaport. I’m 36 now so this was obviously a long long time ago, but it’s still one of my favorite school memories. It was such an amazing experience. I also worked at a campground/ rev resort a few miles from the Seaport as my first job and then later when I was in my 20s I worked there again as a manager for a few years even living on property. I met SO many amazing campers who traveled just to visit the Seaport. Living here my whole life I never realized just how special it was, it’s always been a place we went to for field trips or drove by often so it didn’t seem so neat, but as an adult it truly is a gem and I’m lucky to have it so close. **Edited to add, you’re right about locals visiting the Pequot Museum at Foxwoods too! A lot of us love it and think it’s the neatest place. We even had our senior prom there when I was in highschool. You’re also right about us being big on mom and pop businesses instead of chains. And we small seafood shacks have some of the beast food around haha Sea Swirl is a mandatory stop every summer, heck, multiple times a summer if we can get out there haha. This was one of the best videos I’ve seen talk about our little area. You did a great job! Only thing I’d say, I don’t think pizza is that big a deal haha maybe new haven they’re more about it but my area we don’t really mind. I can’t think of any thin crust places around here either.

We are Nutmeggers because when nutmeg was all the rage in the 18th and 19th century, Connecticut traders were the leaders in getting it from the Caribbean. Real nutmeg. Sometimes not-so-real nutmeg.
You nailed it on this video! i've lived here my whole life(38 years) grew up in Fairfield for most my life. the only thing i think you could have added to this is the trout, bass..... fishing and all the rivers and streams to fly fish or just regular fishing for all types of fish. then we also have the orchards to go apple picking in the fall like Silvermans farm in Easton on RT 58.

Thank you for covering this area. I lived next to Mystic for a couple years and I apparently the name nutmeger comes from the story that nutmeg was a popular trade export from CT in the colonial era. So traders would add nuggets of wood to their shipment and pass them off as nutmeg so they would get more weight in their trade. So nutmeger is a roundabout name for a swindler. Don’t know why they named themselves that as a state😂

Because place that gets away with this much taxation is arrogant enough to use a kitschy name that sounds cute, but tells on themselves knowing almost no one will notice.
When you come to visit, make sure you visit the emporium next to the oyster bar on the Groton side! Revamped into a historical monument of mystic and the Seaport. Many materials came from the Conrad and the Charles W. Morgan. A beautiful fine dine and spectacular dive bar. Be sure to visit!
Thanks for the video! My wife is a CT native, and we visit at least twice a year. One thing I would add in regards to beaches. There are some good beaches; however, many of the beaches are private in inaccessible to the public (this was a big change for me, since private beaches are not a thing in California where I am from).

I was born and raised in Ct. I think you represented the beautiful Mystic Ct. perfectly however, Being from from central Ct. to south western part of the state, mainly the Naugatuck valley area. Although we are only about 25 minutes from the shore line we are very different from the beautiful Mystic. Ct. from pizza to hotels and most of the things you mentioned. You won't get the New England. "Port village" vibe here and clams on a pizza? Not here . We do have some sandy beaches but because They are in Long Island sound, the water is dark green and you won't find white sand. Camping, fishing, and hiking nice day trips too. I do agree that the food here is fantastic regardless of type of cuisine and We practically have a pizza place on every corner. If you are visiting Ct and are from the western United states, I highly recommend you try "Dunkin's "jelly doughnuts" because as I found out while Vacationing jelly doughnuts don't exist out west, "Hummel's" foot long hotdogs, a Ct. company. Instead my humble opinion, the best hotdog ever and in this part of Ct., try "Zoi's" or Roseland's. They are popular in this area. One of my most memorable long weekends in Ct. was aboard an oldworld type sailing ship. Meals included. The one I was on was a clipper ship they offered from day trips to several days. It's well worth checking into if they are still offered. Regardless of which area I hope your time in Ct. Is a memorable one.
Very nice place to visit with. Thank you for this very nice tour in that place. New friend join you my friend.
Candlewood Lake (largest lake in CT) is beautiful and certainly worth a visit!

Peabody natural museum and art museums in new haven! Yale university tour is excellent too. Done miss arethusa ice cream if in new haven or Litchfield! We love our state.
We decided to move to CT this last month or two - what timing! Glad to see people are saying this is accurate in the comments, too (: We're looking at Mystic, Norwich, Torrington, and Vernon if anyone wanted to comment on those areas ^^

Mystic is REALLY expensive but beautiful, I'm in North Stonington myself, 2 exits up 95 away from Mystic. Growing up, I always felt dirty anytime I went to Norwich. It was always a skeezy city, but over the years it has improved and there are some beautiful parts of Norwich. Regardless where you choose to move, just know it will be expensive... CT is a very hard place to save money unless you're making a LOT of it, but it's CT, if you're choosing to move here, you already know that. I hope you have a great experience and no matter where you go, if you're amongst those you love, it'll be a success ❤️

I suggest not living in a city within Connecticut. Rural towns will suit anyone much better. Not just for the social environment and environment in general, but also for the school education.

The cities are awesome to visit for food though! Danbury, west Hartford, newtown, and of course the coast are some good places for good food
Must try Lake Compounce.. the oldest continuously running amusement park, they have added much over time
as a mystic native it's so interesting to see this video
Thumbs up.on your way to (1)million subscribers
I’ve seen you and your family in Savannah Georgia so would you recommend living there or here??? Which one do you love more?
Nice video . Love the guy narrating video . Good personality .
From DaBronx. Been in Norwalk for 10 yrs. A suburb of nyc , I'm only an hour from Grand Central. A little love to Fairfield County , man. Nice video, Conneticut is nice state, but has its share of urban blight. Stay outta the cities, the back roads & out of the way spots are the way to go⚡
Hi Mark wow super 👌🏻👍

When in Norwalk go eat at Overton’s in the summer. Also there is a watch tower museum it has a 24-7 camera for the KZread channel Virtual Railfan that films the railroad track at SoNo.
Also, there are plenty of sandy beaches here. Our favorites are Ocean Beach in New London and the beaches at Hammonasette.
Love any state in New England. 💗

Me too
Litchfield is a great area. I use to volunteer ate the riverton fair which is help in October. Love it I’m said they didn’t have it in 2020 and I missed it last year bc I was sick. I am not missing it this up coming year
Some guys tried to sell counterfeit nutmeg hundreds of years ago. The rest of New England seemed to try to not let anyone forget that.
Yes, I've hit deer twice in the past dozen years living in CT.
We also have a bunch of other museums, 2 amusement parks (more family oriented), and you CAN find excellent pizza throughout the state.
Definitely nailed the food on the head went to some of the best restaurants Olympics pizza in new haven is crazy good as well

Mystic, my favorite.
The vast majority of coastline is private property and thus inaccessible. And I was expecting you to talk about grinders!!
