Is New Haven Pizza Better Than New York Pizza?
Ойын-сауық
This episode is not about pizza. It's about Apizza. There's a difference.
Welcome to New Haven, a city that has some of the best pizza around. Frank Pinello, our host, has never been to New Haven and the best way to learn about the city is by eating. Frank hangs out with Gary Bimonte, co-owner of legendary pizzeria Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, spends time with the owners of Zuppardi's, and meets some true new haven legends. This is a special town with incredible people and pizza to match.

A few years ago I was passing through New Haven on my Harley. It was fathers day. I had just left my fathers side of the family in Oklahoma a few days before. I was missing him because he had passed many years ago. I ordered my pizza. It was a 90 minute wait. I went for a ride and returned. There was no room in the restaurant. I got my pizza and a good pop and went outside. As I sat on Wooster St on Fathers Day a homeless guy came by and asked for some money. I said no. But, I will share my pizza with you. I sat and talked to Willie as I ate the best pizza we have ever had. It was as my fathers was there. Thank you Franks and Willie for a great memory.

Sadly, Gary Bimonte passed away today. May he rest in peace. "It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Gary Bimonte. Gary was a wonderful brother, son, uncle, and friend to so many, and he was loved by all of us. Gary was the pride and joy of the Pepe’s family, and there are no words to express the immense void that his passing has left in our hearts. He truly loved and cherished our family’s history, and he was so proud of the legacy that has carried through all these years. Gary was incredibly grateful for all of the happiness that our family brought to so many people through our love of pizza, and he really embodied the heritage and tradition that Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is known for today. He will be terribly missed by so many people. The family is requesting privacy during this time of grieving." -Frank Pepe's Website

Frank Pinello is my new favorite Vice personality. It started with a chef's night out, which I loved. Now it's grown to this super rad show. Dude it super chill and it's just a real humble guy that's deep into his craft. Frank's way of talking to the camera is almost as if he's talking to a homie or something.
Im happy that my dude Frank got his own show
I revisit this video from time to time. Frank, I'm a pizza guy, and a fairly decent pizza maker. I'm fourth generation Ellis Island New York born and raised. At 21, I ended up in Connecticut, and met my wife, a lovely Italian mutt like me. I'm now 41, and I had real difficulty making the adjustment and accepting the culture here. However, I found their Italian American culture so intriguing, and their pizza so unique that I was able to build a life here. It's pretty incredible to be able to appreciate both Pizza cultures with the same respect and admiration. As Ny'ers we were told that everything we did was better and to see the humbleness, humility, passion and respect you give the love for food inspires me; you are the true Italian spirit I remember from my childhood. So, thank you Frank
this show was the best thing on youtube, so sad it got cancelled... Also very interesting when Frank is eating at 2:09 and he has Loui's Lunch at the other side of the street, the place where hamburgers where created! So much culinary history in that town.

How could anyone dislike this video? I'm from NY like Frank, lived in New Haven area for the last 20 years...I've got to tell you; I there is something very special about New Haven Apizza...
Back in 1971 my family and I , immigrants from Poland, lived above Christopher Martins at that time it was a liquor store. The very first pizza I ever had was Modern. Fifty years later I still live in the New Haven area and have eaten in all manner of pizza places in the vicinity. For what my opinion is worth..... Modern, hands down.
I love this show. Frank is a great host and seems like a good dude. I got so hungry watching this I just got a pie delivered for lunch.
The old dude was like Its 5 o clock time to head home no interview gonna keep me from getting home
The more i watch this Pizza Show the more i like this guy ! Frank looks like the perfect social dude, so respectful of the elders & traditions :) Really nice show
Lived in NY all my life. 1 or 2 years ago I actually had to pass through New Haven on a trip and I had watched this episode and Barstool Dave's pizza reviews in new haven. I didn't get to try Pepe's unfortunately but I did try Sally's and Modern. Sally's is still the best pizza I've ever experienced in my 36 years on this planet. Modern was very close but man Sally's was special. Their history is WELL earned and deserved.

This is by far my favorite show from Munchies, and Vice for that matter. Wish more shows would come across as genuine like this show does. Such a good host

Thank you for giving New Haven the props we deserved man. Hope to meet you at one of these places when you come back!
