Conjoined Twins Are A Medical Miracle | BORN DIFFERENT

SUBSCRIBE to Barcroft TV: bit.ly/Oc61Hj
CONJOINED twins Callie and Carter Torres continue to thrive together - despite expert doctors giving them just 24 hours to live. Callie and Carter were born attached by their pelvis area, sharing all organs from the belly button down and having a single leg each. The girls, who reside in Blackfoot, Idaho, are described as omphalo-ischiopagus twins that make up less than five percent of conjoined twins throughout the world. Still to this day, just 40 to 60 percent of all conjoined twins manage to survive past birth. But with their second birthday approaching in the new year, Callie and Carter’s health continues to improve, much to the delight of parents, Chelsea and Nick Torres.

Awww. Having twins is something that is close to my heart because I have them. I understand what the mother went through in her pregnancy. I am a mother without both my legs. I remember when I found out I was having twins, I was super happy. Later at 23 weeks I had complications. We rushed to the hospital and they were able to deal with my complications. I was ordered to be on strict bed rest and I gave birth to them at 30 weeks. I cried almost everyday because I was so scared I may lose them. These poor parents went through a lot. Only them they can understand what it was like. I am so happy the baby are doing well

Poor girls, it’s cute and a miracle now but when they get older think of all the difficulties they’ll have to endure. No individual relationships, no privacy, resentment towards others or jealousy (its only natural), medical issues, health complications that could be fatal to both of them since they are conjoined. If they separate soon they could have a chance of a “normal” life like their brother even if it means taking a risk hundreds of other people born like this have done and come out as successful patients who live independent lifes. The parents said they could have surgery if they chose to so there must be a way for them to separate.

sally smith Well, actually, in the video, they explain the reason they didn't want them to be separated was because the twins would have more health risks than they already do. And they would only allow it if a health situation were to arise where they would need to be separated or if the twins wanted to be separated later in life. It's totally my opinion but i think that is a good decision.

Their life might look hard to us, but that's all they've ever known. I don't think anyone not in their shoes could understand, I certainly won't pretend like I do, at all, cause I can't. But to them it's just normal. People are amazing at being able to adapt, and they can still be very happy.

This is so close to my heart because I have twins that are two months old and they are my joy and world ❤️ I don’t know what I’d do without them. They are honestly miracle children as I’ve had two miscarriages before them. So just seeing these two little angles warm my heart ❤️. Like even though they are still going they are both so beautiful and so unique. I loved this story ❤️!

“Welcome To Holland” essay is really appropriate here. All the best to whole family ❤️ “I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this...... When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting. After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland." "Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy." But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay. The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place. So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met. It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts. But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned." And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away...because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss. But...if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland. “ -- Emily Kingsley

I honestly don’t blame these parents for being afraid of separating them. The reality is that with how joined they are that one or both of them very well could die. Separating twins is a risky thing and the odds that both twins would survive separation isn’t great. I don’t think most parents would be able to live with that decision. There were two twins separated here in the US recently. They just turned two and were joined at the skull. They shared skull and dura. People talk about medical procedures like separation like it’s an easy thing or a no brainer, but the reality is that a lot of severely conjoined twins die.
