Conical Fermenter Cooling Pump Kit

Temperature control is one of the most crucial elements for producing a good quality beer. It needs to be regulated and stable throughout the whole fermentation process to ensure the yeast doesn't get stressed and ferments correctly to get the right flavour profile.
The Cooling Pump Kit allows users of the Grainfather Conical Fermenter to control the fermentation temperature with cold water by pumping it through the double walled insulated interior.

A great addition to the conical fermenter. Now I am really considering to get one, since the glycol chiller is a bit too pricey for a hobby...

I sit my conical fermenter next to my kegerator. I have a keg full of water in my kegerator & I run the red and blue hoses along with the pump cable down through the top of my font and into the chilled keg of water in my kegerator - I have found this to be very effective & can have a Lager fermenting at 13c when it's a hot (Tasmanian) summer day outside.

Should there have been gaskets behind the valves? Mine are leaking quite a bit and were already installed when I took it out of the box. Unscrewed them and noticed there weren't any. There wasn't any bag with extra gaskets either.

great review! how low do you estimate the temperature of the fermenter by using ice water?

Take it the O rings go on the valves before tightening?

I am thinking about buying one of these but can I just check that the cooling definitely goes on the lower valve, The reason I ask is that your lower valve is on the right side of the fermenter but mine is on the left (Unsure why they are different) Thank you.

I just bought a couple of Grainfather conical pro fermenters. I says with an ambient temp of 68C I should be able to achieve 96.8C. Do you have any idea as to why I can only reach 89.9? It did reach the target temp of 95 but then receded to 89? Any help with this would be appreciated, thanks!

Can you connect the pipes straight up to your taps and just run cold water through without the need for the pump?

I don't really see why the red outflow hose needs to be insulated. Great system tho I just got mine!

Hey Martin, thanks for your message. The best way is to take off the couplers and then drain through the hole either side.

Hi, it has a 30 L (8 US Gal) capacity. The volume markings on the inner body go up to 25 L (7 US Gal)

I've just ordered this along with the CO2 pressure kit and cooling pump kit... if i cool my wort via my BIAB system and transfer to this, can i set a temp for, let's say, 55 deg F for a lager.... will this system maintain it?

Hey Tony, thanks for your message. Yes you can use this fermenter for lager and it can cool to as low as 40-43*F. However this will all depend on ambient temperature and if your able to keep the cooling water topped up with ice (if needed). If your in a hot country and want to use the Conical Fermenter for lager or crash cooling, then I would suggest to check out the Glycol Chiller to help keep the wort cool.

@@GrainfatherAllGrainBrewing thank you very much! I'm in the Northeast of the US. I will use a cooler with ice. Just want to also commend you for great instructions and videos which helped me set it all up. The quality of the unit is great! Should be brewing this weekend and very excited to finally keep accurate temps.
