CONFUSING THAILAND TRAVEL DAY | Ao Nang To Koh Lanta Bus & Ferry

Time to see more of Thailand and Krabi so we head from Ao Nang to Koh Lanta, on the bus and ferry option, but not smoothly! ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel for a living - bit.ly/2PjaPey
Apparently saying we're heading from Krabi to Koh Lanta on the bus and ferry was wrong, according to Stace (fine, and Google) Koh Lanta is still part of the Krabi Province - Thailand keeps confusing me with their provinces :P Krabi or not, Ao Nang has been a blast, but it's time to keep the travel alive and grab a minivan and ferry combo to the island vibes of Koh Lanta.
Getting to Koh Lanta took a lot longer than the ticket time, but when it comes to travel days in Thailand you often just have to sit back and roll with it, nothing else you can do and getting mad doesn't change anything other than your mood. Despite the time it took, we're still pleased we took the bus / minivan option and not the ferry only - we've heard some pretty bad stories of how crammed they are and limited air con, or just having to stand outside in the sun, wind and salt for hours on end.
Check out our Koh Lanta accom, such a good spot: geni.us/SiJqD5e
Koh Lanta is freakin awesome by the way. We love it here. Have a few videos to share from Ko Lanta but we both got the flu and didn't explore as much as we would have liked.
K bye.

This vlog perfectly captures the vibe of travel in Thailand. So often we felt like there was no option but just go with the flow. We quickly learnt that 2 hours travel time normally means 2-6 hours travel time. But when you're in a country that is so beautiful and where food and drinks are available EVERYWHERE then you can't really complain.

We can't help but feel like the people that say 'Thailand was terrible to travel' are the ones that just expect everything to be perfect... when you take your attitude and just sit back it's easier going, kind of funny and just is what it is!

3:43 A good travel tip is if you get a sticker put on your shirt for a transfer or ferry or fast boat take a picture of yourself with the sticker on your shirt. Make sure you can read the sticker in the picture. If it falls off or gets wet you will be glad you did.

Koh Lanta is a special place. On my trip last year, I went from Koh Lanta to Khao Sok (4 hour minibus) for the jungle vibes and Ratchaprapha Dam which were both amazing. Is Khao Sok in your travel plans?

Hayden Hamilton Hello! I’m planning on going from Krabi to Khao Sok & then back down to Koh Lanta a couple of days after. Can you recommend the minibus company you went with? Was it 4 hours total from Khao Sok to Koh Lanta? That seems not too bad for travel time 😄

Isabella R. Good idea. 3 minutes into this video , you see them at the Krabi travel agency which is like a transfer hub. Khao sok and Koh lanta are 2-2.5 hours each way from Krabi. You might have to wait about 30 minutes in Krabi for the transfer to Koh lanta. So not bad at all! Khao sok is incredible and rejuvenating. The south western coast of Koh lanta is the bees knees. Well worth the travel time!

Daneger and Stacey Fair enough! If I had any useful information to give about Koh lanta. Ban Saladan where you’re staying in the video has cool night markets (not sure what night, moves around) And the sporadic power cuts... The whole west coast is awesome which is where I wish I had stayed had I known anything about Koh lanta before going. There are some amazing restaurants on the south western cliffs which will give you insane footage, especially during sunsets. Foods amazing too! Epic Beach is at the very bottom of the island and costs 200 baht for entry. This beach and nearby bamboo beach(free) are the best.

Isabella R. Also, as for minibus company. Just find any travel agency on the street or at your hotels front desk. I’m pretty sure they all call the same providers. Never had any issues 😀

Right, flying from Ko Samui to Krabi. Going to Ko Lanta. In march. TAXI it is. Big time. Just 2 of us. I don't mind how much. Don't want to share van , no way !!. So should we do this online or just outside Krabi airport....to get TAXI to our place in Ko Lanta. Cheers, Thanks

Sounds like the much better option! Unsure on price sorry, might be worth seeing if you can find a tour agency in advance and have some one waiting for you with a sign... VIP

The smoke is from burning season. They're burning the rice fields, so you were right about the controlled burn. Same thing happening where I currently am in Chiang Mai. Wreaks havoc on your breathing.

How long is Chiang Mai supposed to be burning? I was thinking of flying in soon, but not certain because of my asthma, also I see its REALLY hot right now.

Burning season usually lasts from mid February to April. The air quality in Chiang Mai is really poor then. Even wearing a mask doesn't help much

The stop start buses,,,Hang on to your luggage. This is when everything gets stolen. Do not put your bags under the bus. Hang on to them at all cost.

Worse thing about Thailand is travelling on them mini buses or the v.i.p buses always try to stick with the government run buses(cheaper and much more room and not treated like cattle).
