    I tried to convince a flerf that according to their understand of the earth, the equator must be 2 x pi times longer than the distance from the equator to the north pole, which would be problematic, given we messured both those distances already. He kinda threw in the towel at that one, since multiplying a number by 2 and pi was too hard for him.

    These videos show that if flat eathers are correct, then nasa is incredibly schizophrenic, going to such legths to make sure that the camera's field of vision matches what it would see at that altitude, which requires a knowledge of photography and lenses that your average person probability doesn't have, while at the same time digitally painting goofy faces and using a green screen process that has Fisher Price's Baby's First Green Screen seem professional grade, since video compression errors aren't a thing on flat earth.

    Another way to determine the altitude of the ISS that anyone can do (with a friend) is to have two people several hundred miles apart observe a pass of the ISS simultaneously and track in the sky where they saw it (directional bearing, number of degrees above the horizon, etc.). Then a little simple math can done to calculate its altitude using the two observations. They can't say its a plane or balloon because the simultaneous observation from two places hundreds of miles apart would prove it wasn't a balloon or plane.

    Another great video. BTW, you can overlay images in Google Earth (or at least Pro), though getting positioning right is a bit of a pain. (in the default "LatLonBox" mode, you can keep aspect ratio by holding shift while dragging one of the resize anchors). I overlaid ISS023-E-50442, in "LatLonQuad" mode (where each corner has separate coordinates), and came up with the coordinates (if one wants to also overlay the same image) of: (given in Lon/Lat order, which matches the UI) -0.240073, 51.405829; 0.005502, 51.452753; -0.058353, 51.567452; -0.307759, 51.519892, and for altitude I set it to clamp to ground. I've mostly only done this for old aerial photos pulled from the USGS archives, for sets that Google hadn't ingested at that time.

  • @jfmezei

    @jfmezei

    There is however a problem with overlaying stuff on Google Earth. Your 2D image is not rendered in 3D aroud the Earth and remains a flat image. For a small enough area, this matters less, but for larger areas, that starts to become a problem. Google wants to place your 2D image such that its centre is visible and this means the edges are at an altitude that is way above ground level due to the pesky corvature of planet as rendered by Google.

  • @Coderjo.

    @Coderjo.

    9 ай бұрын

    @@jfmezeiI just placed an image layer that covers the entire western hemisphere, and it actually wraps it all at ground level, not a flat plane tangent to the earth at the center. Granted, that means that placing a large enough photo that already has the curvature in it will distort it even further. (I'm not even seeing a way to place a flat tangent plane anywhere in the properties)

And a lot of it. Unless you're living in the highest tax bracket and you have a ton of free time, have fun spending literal years to grind for that pretty F-16 you saw in the ad. By the time you get it, though, it will have already been obsolesced by a Russian Su-57. Still think you can handle all that? Alright! Have fun playing a game made by a company with ties to Gazprom, an oil tycoon that is basically owned by the Russian Government. And yes, that does mean that Russian vehicles (namely the top-tier ones fighting in Ukraine right now) will have their performance played up, or they will conveniently have a bug with the damage model that increases their survivability. Trying to work out Kevin Jackson's location from his image of the Cumbrian hills behind Blackpool shot from near Southport was an education. I used two identifiable objects in the image to create a straight line that was cut at two points by two other much further away objects. I could then recreate the line and the two points on the line. That then gave me two sight lines on Google Earth that met at Kevin's approximate location. I was delighted to find out I was very close. I enjoyed the lesson on cameras. I was disappointed to not see links in the video description to the calculator pages you used. Still just knowing that they exist and what they look like should be enough info for me to find them.
