"Uber is catching the strays of my emotional turmoil" I felt that!
Fuck, as a DoorDasher of 1.5+ years, I can really relate to the first caller. Being in a metal box all day, worried about gas, your car breaking down, constantly getting fucked over with little or no tips and an insultingly low base pay, it’s an anxiety-inducing way to pay your bills. Props to that guy for keeping himself together. If my partner left me while I was in the middle of this job I would have to take a grippy sock vacation. Stay strong, my fellow rideshare comrade ✊🏻

Id love to talk to first caller man seems like a great guy
The first caller’s mentality: get rich or cry trying
I like how gecko didnt rush this call.
A little advice from a driver with +1000 rides completed: Keep something in you car to occupy your mind and look forward to during the breaks. I generally keep a skateboard, soccerball, or a book to break up the works and take a few minutes off. Eating good food and moving your body will improve your mood and your desire to work. If you are working during dead hours, you have change your schedule and find the most lucrative times to work. The great thing about Uber is that you can control your own time to a much greater extent than having a typical job, so take advantage of it and use your down time to pursue your interests!

I was in a similar spot as the Uber guy, esp with the empathy and world events. And with geckos advice. I was an Uber eats driver too. Not gonna say becoming a Mail Carrier fixed everything, but it minimized a lot of these problems, and gave me a sense of community
I really resonate with Pomegranate on those feelings of empathy, I find myself caring so much about how others are doing and their problems rather than my own. I might not be in the same situation as him but it definitely affects me similarly.
Canadian money doesn't have one dollar bills, we only have 5 and up for bills, so that could be why they were confused about the tip
Wow that quote about treating someone you are talking to like it's the first conversation you ever had really resonated with me.
I relate to the person talking about peeing in the sink on a spiritual level tbh 😂
I don’t understand how this conversation was so entertaining to me. 😂

There's a voyeuristic quality to it. Kind of like going to the salon with your mom and aunts listening to gossip. And then also a like, well I like to reflect on it and think about my life and I feel better about myself after listening
i'm the exact same as the last caller i have to stay away from competitive games ESPECIALLY online games when you know there's other real people playing with you. the last one i played was fall guys when it first came out and almost threw my controller at the tv so i just stay away from that kind of stuff bc it's never that serious

wow this video has been very topical for me despite being posted 9 months ago, specifically the uber driver’s story, i haven’t gone through a rough breakup recently or anything like that but i’m a doordash driver and i tend to struggle with having a very active mind while driving, sometimes it can be helpful but a lot of times it’s just a negative feedback loop inside my brain, i also struggle with intense empathy to the point that it negatively affects my day to day life if i focus on other people’s issues too much or spend too much time on social media zoned in on political and humanitarian issues, even down to the israel palestine “conflict” 😭😭 it’s been haunting me and i’ve been trying my best to take breaks but it’s hard, anyways listening to this was very therapeutic for me in ways i didn’t expect at 7am so thank you so much ❤️
You calling that guy back to ask him where he poops made me laugh harder than I have in years. Thanks for that, Lyle. Golden.
I like how Lyle just passed over that there are no $1 bills in Canada
Gecko is right. I once had a cab driver tell me about his ex wife it was actually cool. I think he had been drinking, solid guy
Geck: How high are you? Uber: yes

@Raak There was nothing to "infer" from my comment other than what I've already stated. You assumed I was jaded and anti-activist because I pointed out a cringy, poorly-worded comment from a cringy username. Nothing vague about it, you're just bad at making inferences. Again, I don't even think you understand the context of their username, so shut up and quit looking so deeply into things you don't understand.
Damn man these are such amazing stories. The first story at a few points made me laugh I hope thats not wrong haha, it sounds like my dude isn't doing to terribly great but I can relate a ton even if I'm not a driver.
Love ya, Geck!
Hi from Portugal, we do watch the Gecko in Portugal
Thank you Lyle I absolutely love these shows.
Background looks like Jerusalem. Maybe lebanon
As someone who did Uber and Lyft, he's right. The pay from either of them averages around 40% from what I gathered from my riders, except tips. And being in the car for so long to pay your bills can get exhausting mentally and you can easily end up gaining weight doing it. And there's definitely times and places you have to be to even remotely make it work. And Uber was much worse before. Years ago I had to argue with them for a few days about someone puking in my car. They tried claiming "we don't see anything". So I implored them to send someone out to smell my car and give me that statement again. They eventually gave it to me, but they definitely gave me a hard time about it
Wait til this guy finds r/sinkpissers and realizes there are literally dozens of him 😂
Heard on the podcast you were coming to Portugal, wish you came to Porto instead of Lisbon so I could talk to you :( Anyway hope you have a good time here! :)

My work got super slow this last year so I started Ubering part time and it’s not too bad. You do make peanuts and the only way to make real money is to basically live in your car and do it for hours and hours a day… (which I don’t:) I just put in one ear bud and listen to podcasts and chew nicotine gum. In that way it’s fun and mindless. 🏁😌

That last call about being competitive really didn’t sit right with me. Really just the way she was approaching the problem was way more “that’s just the way I am” than actually trying to curb and stop the action.

I did it for a summer, I feel like you’re just always worried about which fare/area/timing and it can be stressful. Sometimes good conversations but it’s tough and gas/taxes suck unless you get an independent contracting license to write some stuff off.

Never done Uber, but used to doordash quite a bit. It all came down to the area I was in. It's much more profitable in densely populated areas than the suburbs. I'd get some order requests that payed $3.50 to drive 20 miles round trip. Then the next order offer I'd get, $10 to only drive 4 miles. Doordash apparently gives first dibs on high paying deliveries to drivers with high order acceptance rates, but ironically the amount of low-paying orders you have to accept to maintain that >50% acceptance rate makes it not even worth it.
I think it’s also building intention, like it’s okay to go on twitter, but go in with the knowledge that it’s a chaotic thing to do and set aside time for more intentional present time.

so i go to Chili's sometimes with my mom and sister. I have a round face and i have long hair so i already kinda look like a girl. I have a little facial hair so you can kinda tell im not, but chili's is dark; the second we walk in, its, " hello, ladies. Table for 3?" And then we sit down and as soon as the waiter sees im not a girl, i can PHYSICALLY SEE it in their eyes and it kinda becomes uncomfortable for me and them. The problem is they never address it again. I think that's kinda funny

If the riders are paying way out of ass. How does Uber prefer riders and treat them better? Sounds like a service that is screwing over their drivers and riders. As a rider for years I’ve heard negativity on both ends.
