Metal in microwave?! I looked it up, and it appears this is actually safe with the foil as long as the food is pressed closely to it on one side and there are no sharp bits of foil that could cause arcing (so a shell like this is fine, but using sheet foil would be a worse idea).

Hi, yes normally metal and microwaves don't play very well. In this case, the pie foil is mostly obscured by the pastry, and the foil is on a heavy dinner plate which shields the bottom of the foil as well. I Have tested this extensively with pies and tarts in foil casings, with no incidents at all. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching!

made two of these again today! For anyone worried about the microwave, it works perfectly. I made sure I put a plate at the bottom and covered all the exposed bits of foil at the top and they came out perfectly this time as they did last time too :-) easy and brilliant recipe x
