Zaine Fishing Lol someone is mad. I also own a Concept A and it went to shit in one season of saltwater fishing. I recently repaired and serviced it, works again. I also own high end Daiwas and Shimano’s, they don’t have issues after years of use.

tolerances are sloppy on the 13 reel. i'd be willing to bet 13 has less than $30 in each one of those reels..

I love my Z, but with braid it’s just as loud as any other reel . With fluorocarbon it’s smooth sailing.

It does tick a bit. A little annoying but nothing I can’t get over.

No big surprise there, aside from the fact that you are casting further, the Chronarch G is a much more refined reel and quite frankly it is on a different level. Remember the Chronarch has Micro Module Gearing, not only is the main gear larger, it has way more teeth which will give you a much smoother retrieve. All in all, the Chronarch is just a much better reel, but of course it is $80 more expensive too. If you know how to maintain reels especially if you fish saltwater, you could buy Chronarch MGLs for only $230 a pop from Japan.

Alex Fu I completely agree. The Curado K is a much better comparison to the Z. Yes, I understand that the Concept Z has tolerance issues but people need to focus more on the longevity of the czb bearings. People get too caught up with how far it casts or how quiet it is but any new reel will cast well. I want to see the Z vs a Curado K after a year of fishing with no work being done to the reels and then we can see which is truly better over time.

The Curado is closer in price for sure, I just wanted to take a look at how quiet and smooth the z was compared to the Chronarch, also as a side note I ended up testing the drag on the Z and the gears did not hold up, I did not get that on video but I can say that anyone who puts the Z to the test with the drag system has a good chance of completely stripping the gears out, they're just not going to hold up. I imagine that the guys who just use them every now and then will love them and the guys who fish all the time will break them.

Dragos Kruse Well, that would depend on how well you service your reels especially if you are saltwater user like myself. I can tell you now, if you don't, even the Concept Z will get rusted out and I will tell you why. Although the Z is not supposed to have any bearings, but if I am not wrong there is one exception and that being the anti-reverse bearing which will definitely rust if not maintained. However, I do agree the Concept Z should have less rusted out parts. Having said that, you will still need to open up the crank-side to degrease and re-grease your gears as they will also rust.

Alex Fu have u used a concept z before. Thier bad reels, but I am kinda confused with what your saying, he never said anything about corrosion so I'm just wondering why your bringing it up. You are absolutely correct though maintenance is very important, especially in the salt all my friends fish thier reels without mantnaince and none of them have had a reel last longer than a couple months, it's really sad.

I had a Lews that clicked like that. It is the spool moving side to side.

My concept z clicks a little as well. I think it’s the spool moving back and forth when the tension is low. All in all I am still happy with my concept z.

I know this is an old video, but can you elaborate on what type of fishing conditions you are in? Do you fish from your boat or do you regularly wade fish where the reel is exposed to more saltwater? Also what type of regular maintenance do you do? I regularly wade/surf fish with my Shimano baitcasters and they get dunked all the time. All I do is thoroughly rinse with freshwater at the end of the day while on a fishing trip (5-7 days), and when I get home oil the bearings. Ive had the reels for about 5 years and all the spools still spin like new. I think it will be hard to replace ball-bearings with a new technology that will perform for same length of time.

You’re not supposed to use the Chronarch MGL in saltwater so this option is great. I’ve had time with both and they are identical feeling in casting and retrieve. I’m more of a bass guy but I think I’m gonna get the G.

I fished with my new LEWS custom inshore for trip #7. Nothing but awesome. Just purchased another LEWS today. Lol. I been using the new blue camo spiderwire and I have still of the 1000 cast have not had 1 backlash yet. Even against the wind. Btw. The Z is not all that great. Just HAD to say it. Lol

Very cool, The couple lews i've thrown have been very nice to, I may have to get one of those inshore's in the near future.

IMO that chronarch is bad ass. The z isn't terrible but not in the same category as SHIMANO. I would rather an slx over a z. You might try to go with a little less braid it looked kind of over full.

Yes, they did, because there were a lot of complaints on corrosion issues with the Chronarch MGL, so they launched the G at ICAST 2017 which basically swapped out the MGL spool with a normal spool, given it a new darker paint job and announced it as the saltwater-approved Chronarch model. It is worth noting, Shimano Japan doesn't necessarily agree the MGL spool cannot be used in saltwater. In fact, if you go to Shimano Japan's website or if you look at their catalogue, in all of their MGL models, namely Casitas, Chronarch, Metanium and now the Bantam, they all carry their "saltwater OK" icon. So, I am not quite sure who is right, may be people in the US market don't maintain their reels properly or the corrosion issues are legit. But, if it is legit, then it seems we haven't heard enough complaints on the Metanium MGL or at least Shimano is yet to launch a Metanium G. Perhaps the reason being is the Metanium MGL price point is much more expensive whereby there just aren't that many saltwater Metanium MGL users in the first place. Personally, I am a saltwater user and if I was in the market for a Chronarch, I might buy the MGL online from Japan instead as it is quite a bit cheaper than the US and I would try my best to maintain the reel after each trip.

The knocking is from the bearings, they have to be oiled, well oiled. The chronarch looks nice. The mgl spool will corrode in salt. Especially with braid because it kind of retains the water. I have yet to get one of those G’s but man they look nice

I am Walter from robertsdale al. I have had nothing but problems with the concept z. I had the same problems you have plus handle issues grinding noises when casting. I went to Shimano curado k which is a great reel. Concept z is a scam

Oil the 13 fishing reel it will stop making the sound

I wouldn’t have 3 Concept for one Chronarch

My cheap combo shimano caius is way smoother than that Z, concept Z is not worth $100++ reels is karbage and yes I spell it with a "K"

my Z was trash. traded a A for a Z because the A was noisy. Got the Z and it couldn't cast past 15 yards. traded it for the K and its smooooooth rolling now.
