Agreed. Unfortunately, I doubt any of his actual relatives would want to be on camera for fear of being indirectly called out and judged for inbreeding. He could still get quality footage, but I suspect most of the humor would be awkward and self-deprecating.

I know it's long since you posted this comment, but, it's so true. Modern day cameras take pictures in great detail, however they seem overtly bright and saturated. The colors captured by the old cameras seem very natural.

@@badumtss10 ... A lot of that has to do with the recordings being on tape instead of in RAM, like nowadays. The brightness of today's devices sometimes has to do with trying to capture video in low light, which was sometimes harder on older consumer equipment. This episode was back in the days (late 1990s) of 330 to 480 horizontal videotape resolution. But you can simulate older-style video on today's cameras. I still have a working VHS-C camcorder from over 20 years ago & the video looks just like this. Of course it depends on color settings & also color transfer to digital, such as for uploading to KZread.

When I went to Ireland in 2002, O'Brien's Tower at the Cliffs of Moher had a souvenir shop on the main floor. You could walk up the steps and take in the view for free. When I went back in 2011, I was astounded at all the changes...including a large complex of shops and eateries built into the Cliffs. I don't know what was in O'Brien's Tower, but I do know they now charge admission to get in and it was a windy day (not quite as bad as Conan experienced, thank God), so we didn't even try to walk to the Tower. This whole video brought back wonderful memories of my trip, though...especially how friendly the people in the towns are. BTW...I see this was filmed in 1999...by 2002, people were no longer allowed to smoke inside public places...all smokers had to go outside. They were a bit more progressive than the US! I was a smoker at the time and hated it, LOL.

The Irish government and the EU funded all those cultural centres and other useless places so as to stop Irish people from accessing their own culture. Very few Irish people can actually speak their native language because it was used as a means to allow the upper classes to hold all the state jobs. Ireland when it was founded had the option of either going the America free market direction or the British controlled market direction and Ireland chose the British model. Taxes are through the roof in ireland and working class people pay some of the highest levels of tax in the world.
