+Jesse skinz: I know, in 1987-89, I worked in Credit and Collections with a Man I'll call Roger (not his real name), who had been doing "Stand-Up Comedy", but who could only get jobs as a Comic for a week here, a week there or three days in Miami and 3 days in Las Vegas. I found out that being a Comedian can be a serious business, when you need to pay the Rent or Mortgage and this Comedy Job you love to do is NEVER a Permanent one for any appreciable length of time. I bet "Roger" is not the only Comic who had to settle for any job, rather than the one he loved. For every Conan, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon, there must be thousands or 100s of thousands of Comics who struggle to survive, because they have this crazy idea that they should devote their lives to making us laugh. Garry Shandling, RIP.

Reason no 231 of why Conan is now the undisputed king of Late night comedy is that he wears his heart on his sleeve. He's such a real, wonderful and eloquent person in these situations. So much respect!

Conan is good at expressing himself. He uses words like an art. He forms sentences that gets you excited too how they're ending. Conan speaks form the heart, Conan speaks from experience. All these attributes are very rare in the business that Conan is in. I wish more people would see it like I do because then he would truly be appreciated in his time, and not later when everybody figures it out. Lets not do the same mistake as we have done with other great comedians and actors. Conan speaks form the heart, thats why Conan will always be in our hearts.

Thanks to Conan for giving a great remembrance of Gary Shandling for Shandling's friends, family and fans. The story of Shandling's Hawaii visit with Conan and the Emmy skit assistance were moving. Watching Brad Pitt scowling at Conan while Mr. Pitt was next to his (now) ex Jennifer Aniston only added to the Shandling-ness of the clip. Mr. Shandling was unique, never dull, funny, generous and now will be missed.

We've lost some awfully big talents this year so far - David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Garry Shandling, Alan Rickman, Natalie Cole, Scott Weiland, George Kennedy and author Harper Lee among many other notable people. For me personally, losing David Bowie at the age of 69, two days after his birthday and the release of the brilliant Blackstar album was the hardest loss of all. Never have I felt such grief at the passing of anyone else in my 57 years of life. David was one of the biggest pillars of my life, my North Star, my guiding light, a mentor who taught me to be fearless and to just be myself without concern for what others thought of me. Losing Garry Shandling and Glenn Frey is also difficult because they still had so much to give, they were still so very vital, and frankly, anytime someone dies before the age of 70 or 75, their life was cut short as far as I'm concerned.

+Grimm Reaper Yes, good point. Forgot about him. He died at 72 (and his father passed away at 82.) Never did see FS, Jr. perform but did see his dad twice, in August of '91 and August of '92 (when FS was 75 & 1/2 and 76 & 1/2 respectively) both times at the Greek Theater in L.A. Hearing of FS's death was definitely a moment to remember. I saw a concert the following week at the Pauley Pavilion at UCLA and all three performers - Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan (yeah, you read that right) all made mention of or in some way acknowledged his death in their performances. I'm so lucky to have seen him before it was too late, though at the second concert, FS forgot the lyrics to three of his songs. THAT was depressing to witness.

Watch It's Garry Shandling's show and The Larry Sanders Show. The first one was a sitcom loosely based on his life. He had a live audience & talked to the cameras to let you know what was happening. The Sanders Show is definitely his best. It was about the life of a late night talk show host on and off camera. Lots of celebrities played themselves on the show. They loved being in on the joke.

As a television viewer I first saw Garry perform his stand up on the tonight show. Immediately I was laughing and laughing at every joke. The funny facial expressions, clever punch lines, amazing timing had me laughing till I cried. Garry clearly had the gift that was so unique to him. I was so upset and shocked to hear of Garry's passing. Felt so sick inside, felt so incredibly sad and yet I never personally knew him.. Conan was so sweet to have this tribute to his friend. Seeing that the clips brought Conan to tears made me cry too. Garry left a legacy of laughter to everyone, and we are all so blessed to have it all to remember him by. In this crazy world I thank Garry for making so many forget their problems by making them laugh. Thanks to Conan for the nice tribute.

What a beautiful tribute. Conan, there's a saying, "When you're going through hell, walk fast." In other words, everything changes in time so don't give up. That goes for anyone who's going through a bad time. Nothing stays the same, happiness, sadness, etc. they're all transient. Sounds like Garry Shandling came at the right time. God bless him.

Garry Shandling was a great guy and funny as HELL. I remember the first time I met him at my old job at a movie theater, and I had just started meeting celebrities on the job and had been learning not to dote on them too much if I were a fan, but when he showed up one night with Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives), I didn't have to worry about giving him too much attention lol. He walked up to the snack stand and said something like 'I don't see it, Marcia', and she smiled and asked what he was looking for, and then he turned to my coworker and I and said 'Got any pants?' I totally didn't expect it and I started laughing and said I don't think that's on the menu. Then he asked if we sell any belts, and I asked my coworker and she started laughing and said she didn't think so, and I said maybe next time he comes in, we can have it pre-ordered for him :D The next time he came to my job at the theater, it was for a special screening, and he was still really funny. When I was getting ready to leave work at the end of the night shift and the theater was already starting to close, he was still outside the theater, talking to other ppl on the sidewalk. He was so easygoing and down-to-Earth, and nice to everybody. He was social but in the best possible way. I'd heard recently that he had struggled with depression, so I guess he was working hard to overcome it, as you could never tell anything was bothering him. I guess Conan has a similar feeling about how deep and empathetic he is. We truly will miss Gary.

Pinkster1974 Hell they've been eventually ran out of every country they've squatted in. That should tell you something about the Jew. There is something evil about them. Their greed causes their persecution. America has been mesmerized by their lies and deceit as Germany was. The day of reckoning is in the near future.

Right on conan,we as an audience could tell that was from the heart, the part that really got to me was the story about Hawaii,I can only assume and I may very well be wrong but I cant help but to think that at the time your wife was probably annoyed that you were spending that whole week with Shandling cuz as most of us know when we as guys go somewhere and run into one of the fellas our logic and responsibilities go out the window and we turn into high school boys again and run wild but here is the beauty in that... Conan had no idea at that time that he would be making a decision that he would NEVER regret, that week spent with Shandling is now priceless to him and you can bet your bottom dollar he wouldnt trade that memory for anything, and I bet the wife feels bad she kinda nagged him,we still love you Mrs.Obrien but boys will be boys.Awesome tribute Conan and RIP Garry Shandling

We've lost so many iconic stars and they keep leaving us. Garry was a brilliant comedian and a darn good actor! His role in Ironman and the Avengers had me hating that political character - which was the goal, and he achieved it! As a human being he was nothing like that but wow! A comedian who can go pull that off is awesome! RIP Garry. You are missed.

This is the theme to Garry's Show, The theme to Garry's show. Garry called me up and asked if I would right his theme song. I'm almost halfway finished, How do you like it so far, How do you like the theme to Garry's Show. This is the theme to Garry's Show, The opening theme to Garry's show. This is the music that you hear as you watch the credits. We're almost to the part of where I start to whistle. Then we'll watch "It's Garry Shandling's Show". (whistles) This was the theme to Garry Shandlings show.
