conan o’brien joking about / throwing shade at jay leno for 6 minutes straight

Team Coco all the way. Conan rarely takes jabs at Jay, but when he does, it’s glorious…

And some celebrities supported Leno. The real issue was nobody really knew what happened except Leno and Conan. Unfortunately Leno, for whatever reason, chose not to respond, unlike Conan who couldn't stop. Leno's silence made him look bad. It wasn't until much later that it all came out in Bill Carter's book "The War for Late Night". That's where the truth about what happened is... for those who are willing to hear it.

@@mervinprone You got one thing right. Leno did hide in a closet and listened in on what the NBC's execs were saying about TTS. However, he did NOT take TTS from Letterman. Letterman NEVER had the job. The execs did not want him. Carson wanted him as his replacement, but he didn't own the show. Leno was chosen because he had been guest hosting for -5- years and when he did, TTS numbers remained consistent. "Imagine what he did to Conan"??? You offer no specifics. Here are some for you. Conan cut a deal behind Leno's back to get TTS. His ratings were dismal. He resisted changing his routine up to reach a broader audience and refused NBC's suggestion to move back 30min and let Leno do a 1/2hr show at 11:30. Leno's monologue was the highest rated. This would have given Conan the lead in he whined about. He refused... and then he QUIT. One more thing... where were all you Conan fans when he was hosting TTS? I'll tell you where... watching Letterman.

I always think about what Conan said about cynicism on his last Tonight Show. I wonder if his anger and hopelessness in this situation helped fuel that speech since this is the most cynical I've seen Conan. He probably saw the world responding with anger with him and young people getting hungry for blood seeing Conan diss Jay, and he wanted his final message to be more than just a bitter goodbye. I'm thankful that he did that because in todays ultra cynical world, those words have meant more and more to me. Thank you, Conan.

Yes. She had a show about sex toys, and the last time she was on, she brought a dildo that straps to your chin, and she put it on, and just let the visual create the humor. Sitting next to her were WWE superstar THE BIG SHOW, who's about 7 feet tall, and 500lbs, and next to him was Burt Reynolds. She brought out the chin dildo and said "Not every guy needs to have a big penis, so I brought this" and BIG SHOW says something like "Oh, I don't know. I wouldn't know anything about a small penis. Nothing about me is small" And Burt said something like "I've never heard any complaints". Then they swing back to her, and this chin dildo is just bouncing on her face, and Conan is losing his shit in his chair.

I wonder how much of the whole fiasco was Conan's doing, versus how much was his agent. Leno was pressured into giving up the Tonight Show by NBC, who were being pressed by Conan's agent, that if he didn't get the Tonight Show immediately he'd go to another network and compete directly with Jay. NBC finally offered the infamous five-year plan. But by then, Conan wasn't as hot, and so NBC hedged their bets by putting Leno on at 10:00, which he was not in favor of. Both shows completely tanked, and NBC had little choice but to revert to the status quo. People think Jay planned to retire, and then he promised the Tonight Show to Conan out of the kindness of his heart. Nothing could be further from the truth, but Conan sure sold it. I like Conan. I have a few issues with Jay. So I'm not just taking shots here. I just think that the public was intentionally manipulated into viewing Conan as the victim, when he (or his agent) was actually the one who set the whole thing up to fail from the beginning.
