Ғылым және технология

FAQ's
Q: What if my RAM is not removable?
A: Some motherboards will have RAM that is integrated into the motherboard. It is not easily removable. In that case, you would skip that test and proceed to the LCD test. A RAM problem for you would be the same as a motherboard issue :(
Q: What if all the steps seen here have not worked?
A: Have you tried the manual BIOS reset as seen here? • How To Reset BIOS For ...
If so, and if none of those fixes have helped, your most likely looking at a motherboard issue or a component on the motherboard that would involve soldering to replace. Would you like help with that?

Thank you so much!! I had no idea what I was doing, and decided to tinker because it's after hours for tech support. I ended up having to switch to another video when I got to the part where I needed to take a look at the RAM. The casing didn't pop right off after unscrewing, and I thought I'd break it if I forced it the wrong way somehow lol. Once opened, I used my phone to pick up where I left off watching your video. Lo and behold, I witnessed my little miracle just now, thanks to you! Blessing to you, sir. Liked and subscribed.

Hello! I suddenly just got this issue recently where everything turns on but the display is just black. My laptop's screen would turn on after a day or two of not using it, and the proces will happen again if I let it sleep or if I shut my laptop off. The weird thing as well is that when I shut the laptop down, it wont power off. The display will go black, but the fan and lights would remain on. I was told that this is a Mosfet problem, where sometimes the power coming from the mosfet wont be delivered to power up the screen. I'm not so sure if he is accurate with it. Thanks for your time!

My HP laptop charges while off. It stops charging when on HP Model H61LD5AK. Should I take off the Cover and test the charging jack and power to the motherboard. Do you know if this model's jack can be replaced? Which of your posts shows how to get the cover off?

Hi! I found this video very helpful, my HP computer fell a short distance and ever since the screen has been black. I tried plugging it into a monitor and it worked, so I've been using it with the monitor ever since and just accepted that the screen was broken, but recently the screen of the laptop flashed on while I was working on the monitor, and it made me think that maybe the screen is fixable, you said that the issue is likely with the LCD or LCD cable? I'm not very knowledgeable with computers, and I'm having trouble finding videos on where the LCD cable is and how to try and fix it. I think maybe it just got loose from the fall?

  • @PC_Monkey

    @PC_Monkey

Yes, the cable could very well have become loose in the fall. LCD Cables usually run down through the left side hinge assembly from the LCD to the Motherboard. If you like more help with your exact model, what brand and model computer do you have?

Hi Jamon, I have a Toshiba Tecra Z50A which has a black screen. I saw it go faulty a few months ago - it went bright white and then went black. Following your steps to diagnose the problem - I found it works fine on my HDMI external screen, so I went ahead and replaced the LCD screen, but no joy. Then I replaced the LVDS cable with a brand new original Toshiba Z50A cable from China, but still no joy. Then I went all out and bought a brand new Toshiba Z50A motherboard from China (moved over my original RAM and Wi-Fi sub-PCB), but still no joy! Now there is nothing left to replace (apart from my original 4GB RAM, but that must be OK as it works with the external screen, correct?). So then I thought software or driver related. But I also tried starting without my SSHD to see if it would display anything on the internal LCD screen in BIOS startup - but it remained black. Is this a clue? My Windows 10 Settings - Display tab says it can only detect one screen (i.e. the external one).

I have a hp pavilion g4 laptop series When I turn it on the screen comes on like normal but with in a min. or so it goes dark and stays dark. I have done Ram test, clean fan, replace the thermal paste, tried the Win + B key. none of this works. I also did the self check but the screen does not stay on long enough and going to out side monitor does work but the same time the screen on the laptop goes out so does the monitor. Plus it does not give me time to go to HP likes you said to down load Bios. I have tried to do a Bios on USB but again does not give me time. Any Ideas?

If you have a chance could you look over the following? I have a Lenovo Ideapad 330 81DE. -The power button light turns on and the fan turns on. -The caps/num lights DO NOT turn on. -Black Screen Things I've tried: - I only have one ram stick and I tried removing and putting back in -unplugging the CMOS battery and putting back in -hooking it up to an external monitor but it said no signal. I haven't done anything LCD related due to the lights on the keyboard not coming up so I was thinking it could be a ram or motherboard issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Typically, with a display cable issue, the screen will have intermittent signal that gets less reliable over time. If you get an external hdmi/dp signal but no signal at all on the laptop display, I have encountered this where there is a driver problem. Specifically a problem with the graphics driver that Microsoft installs overwriting the Intel driver. Downloading the latest Intel driver, directly from Intel, and installing it fixes the problem. Also, doing a hard reset by removing the battery and even the CMOS battery, if present, can also solve the problem when it's not a display panel problem.

Hi I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15iil05 that has this issue. The motherboard only has one RAM slot. I reseat the RAM on the motherboard and it boots up properly. At this point I tested the RAM by using the Windows Memory Diagnostic and it found no issues with the RAM. However after a day or two of using the computer suddenly just shuts off even without me using it. Power remains on so battery and AC adapter is not the issue. It did this more than a few times and reseating seems to fix the issue for a few days. Do you think it is still a RAM issue even though the Windows memory diagnostic did not find any problems? Or am I looking at a bad motherboard? Can you let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

@@PC_Monkey Thanks for the reply. I would say that in general wherever I am on the internet that the part of the screen that I know is supposed to be white is a very light dingy gray. I mostly watch videos on KZread. The problem really shows up on dark scenes at night or a dark room. Often I can barely make out what's going on. I went to Redbox to find some movies with scenes with low light conditions. It's just the same as KZread. I haven't played any games. I've turned up the brightness close to the max, so there's little room to make things brighter. My laptop is an Acer Aspire N19H1. It's a low dollar model. I don't want to put much into it, but if just adding new RAM would make the picture better, it might be worth the investment. I'm trying to decide what to do. If some settings in BIOS need to be adjusted each time in order for the computer to properly load Windows, then I my first guess would be the CMOS battery could be bad. As I did it today 02/12/2022, I still cant say if the BSOD problem is gone. Need more time to confirm. While playing Warzone, my graphic card remained all the time in 87 celsius degrees, and I got just 40 to 50 fps. After cleaning, I have played some matches and the temperature remained at 83 degrees and I got regular 70 fps. I think it is a good improvement. Here comes the problem. My display screen is black. I need to do everything on my monitors. And the most weird is that my laptop screen is recognized on windows display settings. I would like to ask you to show where, inside the laptop, the problem may be. I think it is in a cable that goes to the side of the screen and is flat, like a paper, and brown. I am not sure, though. Is the screen physically damaged? If so, you would need to replace the LCD. If not, then yes, start by these two tests :)

I have an Asus Tuf Gaming Fx506 and it encountered a dim display after I replaced the cpu fan. I went to an Asus Service Center and the tech guy told me that I have a shorted mother board but when plugged in to an external monitor, I have a display. The tech guy told me that the repair would be the mother board entirely and hence I opted to buy an external monitor since it's pretty much working. I'd like to ask for your help sir. Thank you

If the computer displays fine to an external monitor but the steps seen here dont help it display to its own, then you may have a fault on the motherboard :( It would need to be repaired or replaced. However, most places that 'repair' motherboards will not warranty or guarantee their work. Your usually better off getting a replacement.

@@PC_Monkey I havent tried replacing the lcd (cable and/or lcd itself) as the service center guy said that it is not advisable and he immediately said that it's a mother board issue after he connected my laptop to an external monitor and it was working perfectly. Shall I proceed to have my lcd replaced instead or just better off on an external monitor while I save up for a replacement?

@@lansegg731 I would try getting a new LCD and / or LCD Cable on a site like Ebay that allows for free returns if you no longer need the item. You can try replacing them that way and see if that helps. If its a simple LCD issue, then you will have fixed it! If not, you can return the parts and assume its a motherboard issue.

The laptop has 4gb internal ram and when the 8gb ram is in the laptop does not turn on. However I was able to update the keyboard driver and now the keys work. Unfortunately the screen is only visible when I shine light on it . And it's still very hard to see but it works well with an external monitor. I was able to access the BIOS and remove the password on the harddisk.

If the screen is black, what are the signs that the computer is actually turning on? Is there any physical damage to the screen or the computer?

    1. Can you find an error matching the time of screen blackout as seen here? kzread.info/dash/bejne/gKWimo-jeqneYrw.html 2. Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Overheating, liquid spill, Windows update, etc?

Hello. My Dell Latitude E6440 turns on whenever I press the power on button but there is no display. It turns on on rare occasions after many long tries of pressing the power button, but it has recently stopped doing that. I have tried the following: 1- Removed the battery, removed the CMOS battery, held the power button for 30 seconds, reassembled both of the batteries back, and tried to turn it on, but nothing happened. 2- After the first try, many many attempts later of turning on the laptop, it pops up this error: Invalid partition table. Had to turn on UEFI boot mode after many tries of pressing the power button and getting into the BIOS. 3- Tried to turn it on, but the icons next to the power button do not light up, except for the charging icon in special cases. However, the fan runs like it has overheated. I have opened it up, cleaned the fans, and changed the thermal paste but yet nothing pops up. 4-I have done the diagnostic test, however, nothing seems to be wrong. 5- I also have tried to do the LCD test where I press the Power Button and repeatedly press the D button afterward runs perfectly, but still, it won't turn on. 6- I also tried resetting the graphic drivers using CTRL + SHIFT + WIN + B, but nothing works. 7- I tried to connect the laptop to an external monitor and tried the first attempt (removing the CMOS battery, etc...) but still nothing pops up. I tried changing RAM stick places, but still, nothing works. As time passed by, this issue got only worse. At first, the laptop would need just a few tries of pressing the power on button and it would work perfectly, but now it gradually got worse where I had to press the power on button many times. Since this issue has persisted to me, I could not shut down nor restart my laptop (hibernation too), since it would just repeat the issue, I have been forced to keep my laptop in Sleep mode. Any help would really be appreciated!

@@PC_Monkey That was around 2 weeks ago where this issue wasn't as bad as it is now. My laptop would take a few tries of turning it on but now it doesn't even turn on. Although, when it did, I went directly into the BIOS and ran the diagnostic test. It really did not have any issue. And thank you seriously so much for responding! It's been a few days since I have been searching for help around forums yet no one even cares! Thanks so much!

@@nendy2133 1. Yes, you can def try that :) 2. If, after all these steps, you have not been able to find the issue, your most likely looking at a faulty component preventing the motherboard from working or a motherboard issue. I would start troubleshooting each component, starting with the charger and power jack. You can see those two videos here; kzread.info/dash/bejne/i3ac1biBmcfLd6g.html & kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqSVxNirfsTVlLg.html. You can also try replacing other components like your Power Button to see if that is the route cause. If none of those are the issue, you would then be left with a motherboard replacement.
