    I would say the bottom end is fine too, It would be well worth taking the head off and getting a good look at the head gasket and head. The slightly "high" compression was probably due to residue oil leaking into the combustion chamber. Best of luck though!

    If you have compressed air and a tyre inflator you can test the valves and rings by listening for the compressed air coming out the inlet manifold and or exhaust. You can do it by using the flexi hose from the compression testing kit in place of the tyre inflator one, you can also see the pressure from the gauge. I dont wanna be negative but a thought that no one else has said yet maybe the head could be damage (not as likely but could be an issue) not sure how common issues like that are on vauxhalls

    barry fuller if there was 2 much oil it would cause it to go through the breather at the top of the engine and will go into the intake manifold. Could be a possibility that’s it is over filled.

    Gotta hand it to you for taking the time and effort for getting the good shots, even when cleaning the car people don't realise you have to set the whole shot up, place the camera on the wall and record the clip. Set the next shot up. Think about what shots are good and what didn't work, edit them all. It's what good content is about my man, p.s I had a MK4 astra 2.0 Sri turbo which had similar wheels to the Corsa they may have been a bit bigger though

    I bet the previous owner changed the valve stem seals but forced them on too hard so the spring on top of them stretched and they are no longer sealing the valve stem. Like yourself, i enjoy working on vauxhalls, looking forward to the next video to see if im right. 👍👍 Excellent channel and well produced videos. All the best

    The compression readings are fine and they're all within 10% of each other. You might as well change the timing belt and water pump while the head is off. You can get these parts for a reasonable price from Autovaux or a decent motor factor.

    Was the engine hot and did you test at WOT? Excess oil in the cylinders will lead to high compression readings, which is why you add oil in a low compression situation to verify rings. It's a dynamic test (engine rotating) it only shows peak pressure achieved, doesn't show losses. Really need to do a static leak-down test to see any losses. Also, given the oil burning, you may want to vacuum test the intake when running to verify guides are not worn. The oil in the coolant could just be residual from previous repair, especially if it's not mixing in the engine block (Mayo in the cap / dip stick).

    200-250 is about right for a petrol engine depending on the make.it would seem like it’s a head issue like the valves or possible headgasket as white smoke is normally associated with headgasket issues plus the coolant has oil mixed with it which also points towards the headgasket

    White smoke is a sign of burning oil, it doent give a clue as to how the oil is getting into the combustion chamber, as this is the Z16XE engine I will bet it is the oil control rings, a very common fault on this engine.

    If the engine burns oil, due to worn rings and cylinders, you would have a lower compression, even with the oil that passes trough the worn parts. Your problem is the head, or gasket. Head can be warped, or cracked. You probably have worn valve guides, and possibly bad valve seals, or just a bad head gasket. Only pulling the head will give you an answer. In some cases getting a rebuilt head, or even a NOS head is cheaper than dealing with stuff someone else took apart and failed again.

    Yup, same happened in my Ford Duratec engine. Burns a crapton of oil, but it still doesn't explain the oil in the coolant reservoir, I'm still guessing it's head problems. Either the head gasket was improperly installed or the head rebuilt was done wrong.

    You're correct, that would not produce the smoke. But it would allow oil and coolant to mix like seen in the video. Smoking can be a number of things including the rings, we'll see what is revealed after the head is taken off.

  • @mikeburnitt403
    @mikeburnitt4036 жыл бұрын

    As I posted on the other video it will be the oil control rings that have gone, that head has already been off and had the valves cleaned and probably new stem seals fitted which didnt cure the problem hence the previous owner losing interest, pull the sump off and take a piston out, the oil control ring will fall apart. The coolant circulating into the expansion bottle is normal.

    I bet you have a cracked head especially if you say its had a head gasket replaced before you bought the car, There was blue and white smoke when you reved up the car in your last video. A good compression test does not rule out gummed up piston rings. You get better results with compression tests when looking for bad or bent valves which in my opinion are fine. When valve stem seals are worn vehicles only usually smoke on first startup not all the time like it was in your video that was some smoke lol. You have 2 problems get the head sorted and get a pressure test done on it and while your in there drop your sump and get your piston rings replaced and get your bores re honed, its an ecotec engine afterall which you should no has serious problems with burning oil.
